The FORGE S1 Slimline Push Pull Smart Lock (FESMTLKS1BA) is a slim automatic push pull lock for entry doors - 3D face recognition and fingerprint at the door, and a video call to your phone when a visitor presses the doorbell.
Wi-Fi is built in (2.4 GHz) and it runs on FORGE's Forge Smart app on the Tuya platform. Remote unlock is request-based: a visitor rings, you see them on the video call and let them in from the app. Choose your mortice backset at checkout - FORGE offers sliding-door (20-35 mm) and swing-door (25-60 mm) mortices for timber doors and aluminium-frame glass doors.
It runs on a 7.4 V rechargeable lithium battery - FORGE sells a replacement S1 battery. Made in China for FORGE, an Australian brand based in Ringwood, Victoria, with FORGE's 2-year warranty.
Usually ships in 24 hours.
Owned by FORGE Electrical (Australia) · Manufactured in China. Our independent FORGE brand profile sets out how the range compares with the other brands we stock.
Access Methods
FORGE lists 9 administrator and 291 user places. Its page does not list PIN codes, cards or a key for the S1, so ask us if you need one of those.

Forge Smart (Tuya) App
The S1 joins your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network directly - 5 GHz is not supported - and is managed in FORGE's Forge Smart app on the Tuya platform ![]()
. FORGE's generic Tuya pairing sheet shows how a Tuya Wi-Fi lock is added to the app.
Wi-Fi is built into the S1, so there is no gateway to buy, and FORGE offers none for it. Remote unlock works on request: when someone presses the doorbell on the lock, a video call request arrives in the app and you can unlock from the call. To save battery, the camera cannot be viewed from your phone unless someone has pressed the doorbell (FORGE). Per FORGE's published comparison, Forge Smart locks do not unlock on demand from off-site, have no scheduled passage mode in the app and no Alexa or Google, and have no API. Online and offline passwords, entry records, notifications and Tuya automations work from the app - see the Forge Smart (Tuya) platform in Chapter 15.
Which platform suits you is set out in our TTLock vs Tuya comparison and which smart lock platform is right for you. If you want on-demand remote unlock and scheduling, compare a TTLock push pull model such as the HDS1 with a gateway.

Suitable Uses
- Entry doors with a vertical push pull handle - timber, or aluminium-frame glass (push pull smart locks).
- Homes that want to see a visitor on video and let them in from the app.
- Slimline frames where a wide push pull lock will not fit - check the frame depth against the mortice.
- Swing and sliding doors with the matching mortice.
- Rentals and offices that need on-demand remote unlock or scheduling - choose a TTLock model with a gateway.
- Live video at any time - the camera only connects after the doorbell is pressed.
- 5 GHz-only Wi-Fi - the S1 needs a 2.4 GHz network.
- Frames too shallow for the mortice - check the case depth for your backset below.

Door Fit, Mortice and Backset
Choose your mortice backset at checkout. FORGE sells the S1 with a choice of mortice - swing-door backsets of 25, 28, 30, 35, 40, 45 or 60 mm or sliding-door (hook) backsets of 20, 28 or 35 mm - measured from the edge of the door (or the faceplate) to the centre of the lock. Choose sliding for a sliding door and swing for a hinged door. FORGE says the S1 suits timber doors and aluminium-frame glass doors. How to measure backset.
Case depths are from FORGE's swing-door (240 x 22 mm faceplate) and sliding-door (270 x 22 mm faceplate) mortice size guides below.
- Door stop or jamb overlap - how far the door stop or jamb overlaps the door edge. The handle base must clear it, so the backset has to leave room beside the lock.
- Frame depth - the depth of the door's frame section from its edge to the glass pocket. The mortice case has to fit inside it.
- Flush or surface-mounted faceplate - FORGE's calculator allows for either. A surface-mounted faceplate sits on the door edge instead of being recessed, which saves 2 mm of frame depth.
- Door thickness - not listed by FORGE for the S1 - measure it and send it to us with the frame depth.
- Tight fits - where the numbers only just work, FORGE advises getting advice before you buy. Send us your measurements or a photo of the door edge and frame and we will check the backset with you.

FORGE Push Pull Smart Locks
This product is the bold row. All are fully automatic push pull locks on a mortice - compare door fit and backsets on each page, and see smart locks on push pull doors - the three pathways and all push pull smart locks.
Accessories and Spares
FORGE offers no gateway or remote add-on for the S1 - Wi-Fi is built in. More spares are in our smart lock accessories.
Battery and Emergency Power
The S1 runs on a DC 7.4 V rechargeable lithium battery; the low-battery prompt starts below 6.8 V (plus or minus 0.2 V), per FORGE. If the battery goes flat, power the lock through the 5 V USB-C emergency port and open it normally. FORGE does not say how the battery is recharged - ask us - and a replacement S1 battery is sold separately. More on what really affects battery life and power and battery FAQs.

Weather Rating - IP65 Outside Panel
FORGE rates the S1's outside panel IP65 against rain and dust. The inside panel is not weather rated. On an exposed door a porch or awning helps; on the coast, read coastal environments and IP ratings explained.

Dimensions
FORGE does not publish a dimension drawing for the S1. The mortice case depth for each backset is in Door Fit above - check the frame depth, the stile width and the door thickness, and send us your measurements if it is close.
Platform and Data
Platform. The S1 runs on FORGE's Forge Smart app on the Tuya platform, with Wi-Fi built in - it joins your 2.4 GHz network directly, with no gateway. Remote unlock is request-based - it answers a doorbell call, per FORGE's page and its published comparison.
Where your data goes. Tuya is a Chinese company headquartered in Hangzhou with regional data centres; by Tuya's own published country table, Australian accounts are provisioned to its Central Europe data centre, and there is no Australian data centre. The region the Forge Smart app uses for Australian accounts is being confirmed. For the platform-by-platform picture see where each smart lock platform hosts its data, and for how Tuya compares with TTLock data sovereignty in our TTLock vs Tuya comparison.
Installation
The S1 fits the mortice you choose into the door edge, with the outside and inside panels fixed through the door and connected to each other. FORGE does not publish an S1 manual - we fit the S1 for customers and can talk you through it.
- Measure the frame depth to the glass pocket and the door stop overlap before choosing a backset - see Door Fit above.
- Choose sliding for a sliding door and swing for a hinged door; the case depth must fit inside the frame.
- Charge the battery fully before setting the lock up.
- Register an administrator first, then pair the lock to the app on a 2.4 GHz network.
- Terry's offers installation across the Gold Coast - see also the wrong-backset mistake.
Which way a door is handed is explained in how to tell which way your door or gate opens.
