Igloohome Wink Facial Recognition Reader (ER1) - Hands-Free Face Unlock for igloohome Locks

The Igloohome Wink Facial Reader (model ER1, SKU STK Igloo_Wink) is a wall-mounted facial recognition reader for the igloo ecosystem. Walk up to the door, look at the Wink, and the igloohome lock it is linked to unlocks - no phone in hand, no code to type, no key. It is a reader rather than a lock: it sends the unlock command over Bluetooth to a compatible igloohome lock you already own or buy with it, and it sits in the smart lock accessories range at Gold Coast Smart Locks. It holds up to 100 registered faces, keeps every face template on the device rather than in the cloud, and can be linked to up to five igloo locks or devices - so one glance can release a front gate and a front door together.

The locks it works with on this site are the Smart Mortice Lock V2, the Smart Mortice Lock V2 + Fingerprint, the Deadbolt Go, the Retrofit Lock, the Smart Bluetooth Padlock 2, the Keybox 3 key safe and the Switch door controller - igloohome's compatible list runs across its whole lock range. The Wink runs on a built-in rechargeable battery charged over USB-C, or hard-wired to a 9-24V DC supply where the door sees heavy traffic, and it is rated IP66, so it can live on the outside of the door or on a gate post. It mounts to a plate with adhesive or two screws, and locks onto that plate with a Torx security screw.

Two things to settle before you order. The Wink needs a compatible igloohome lock within about 3 to 5 metres of where it mounts - it does nothing on its own. And the igloohome app does the set-up: pairing the Wink, linking the locks, registering faces and tuning the detection distance and lockout. Terry's Locksmiths supplies, installs and supports the Wink locally - talk to us about the lock, the mounting position and the registration process before you commit.

Local support
Supplied, Installed and Supported by Terry's Locksmiths
A facial reader is only as good as its position, its lighting and the lock it talks to, so most Wink installations start with a look at the door. Terry's Locksmiths handles the whole job on the Gold Coast: choosing or fitting the igloohome lock, mounting the Wink at the right height and angle, wiring it where mains power makes sense, pairing it to your igloohome account, linking the locks and registering the first faces. For set-up, pairing, registration, account, troubleshooting and warranty questions, contact Terry's Locksmiths first. Our Advice and Installation page explains how a site visit works.
Data privacy
Face Data Stays on the Device
igloohome states that all biometric data is stored locally on the Wink and never in the cloud. A face is registered by a live scan in front of the reader (or through igloohome's remote self-registration), not by uploading a photo, and the verification happens on the device itself. Deleting a registered face is done from the app within Bluetooth range of the Wink, or remotely through a linked Wi-Fi Bridge. If the Wink is going on a strata, office or short-stay door, the Privacy Act notes in Chapter 06 cover what to tell the people whose faces you enrol.
Weather resistance
IP66 - Rated for the Outside of the Door
igloohome rates the Wink IP66: dust-tight and protected against strong water jets, which is the rating a reader on a gate post, a porch or an uncovered entry needs. The rating covers the Wink itself; the lock it operates, the Bridge and any power supply carry their own. A position out of the worst of the weather and direct midday sun still helps - partly for the housing, mostly because the cameras read a face best without glare behind the person. For what the IP numbers mean, see IP ratings explained (Chapter 11).

Key Features

  • Hands-free facial recognition entry for igloohome smart locks - the Wink wakes as you approach, verifies your face in about 350 milliseconds and sends the unlock to the linked lock over Bluetooth.
  • Stores up to 100 faces, each registered as a WinkPass in the igloohome app by a live scan - or remotely by the person themselves through igloohome's self-registration, with an expiry you set, which suits guests, cleaners and deliveries.
  • All biometric data is held on the device, never in the cloud (igloohome's privacy-first design); verification happens on the Wink, not on a server.
  • Infrared and colour cameras with 850nm infrared illumination, so faces are read in the dark as well as daylight; a built-in mmWave presence sensor wakes the reader at a distance you choose - about 60cm, 120cm or 180cm.
  • Reads igloohome's algoPass time-bound QR credential as well as faces, with capacity for up to 1,000 active passes - a one-time pass for a courier that opens the gate but not the front door, for example (as igloohome describes it on its product page).
  • Links to up to five igloo locks or devices, and one scan can release more than one of them - igloohome's multi-point access for homes and units with a gate and a main door.
  • Works with the igloohome locks sold here - Mortice V2, Mortice V2 + Fingerprint, Deadbolt Go, Retrofit Lock, Padlock 2, Keybox 3 and the Switch door controller.
  • Battery or wired power: a built-in rechargeable battery charged over USB-C (igloohome quotes three months or more per charge on its test basis), or a hard-wired 9-24V DC supply through the mounting bracket for high-traffic doors - the terminals are non-polarised, so the wires go on either way.
  • Emergency USB-C jumpstart from a power bank or a phone with reverse charging if the battery is ever run flat, plus audible and LED low-battery warnings well before that point.
  • Security lockout after a number of failed attempts you set in the app, with a siren and a red LED for 30, 60 or 90 seconds; adjustable volume from mute to level 5.
  • Activity log in the igloohome app - every access by credential, and the Wink's battery level; add the Wi-Fi Bridge for notifications and remote settings changes.
  • IP66 ABS housing, 149.98 x 59.98 x 29mm, Black; mounts to a bracket with adhesive or two screws at 81.5mm centres and locks onto it with the supplied T10 Torx screwdriver; installation height 1.2 to 1.5m.
  • FCC, CE and IMDA certified; igloohome's 1-year hardware warranty with Terry's Locksmiths' local installation and support.

Access Methods

The Wink adds credentials to a lock; it does not replace the ones the lock already has. The table shows what the Wink itself reads, what stays on the lock, and the two methods buyers often expect on a reader that this one does not offer. For how the methods compare across brands see Chapter 03 - Access Methods.

Method Available on the Wink Detail
Face Recognition (WinkPass) Yes - built in Up to 100 faces. Each is a WinkPass created in the igloohome app (Access, Create Access, WinkPass, Add Face) by a live scan at about 80cm in good light, or by the person remotely through self-registration with an expiry. Recognition at a recommended 50cm; infrared illumination covers darkness. See Chapter 06 - Facial Recognition.
algoPass QR Code Yes - camera read igloohome's time-bound QR credential, generated in the app and shown on a phone screen to the Wink's camera (35 to 80mm on screen); up to 1,000 active passes. It is the offline, no-app-needed pass for a courier, a tradie or a one-night guest - the same idea as the algoPIN the igloo keypads use, in picture form. Described on igloohome's product page; not covered in the printed guide.
Bluetooth Digital Key On the linked lock The igloohome app still unlocks the lock directly over Bluetooth, exactly as it did before the Wink was fitted - the Wink talks to the lock the same way. Every credential the lock had (PIN on its own keypad, fingerprint on the Mortice V2 + Fingerprint or Deadbolt Go, mechanical key where fitted) keeps working alongside the Wink.
Remote Management With the Wi-Fi Bridge (EB1) Link a Bridge to the Wink and you get notifications, remote settings changes and remote deletion of face data without standing at the door. Without a Bridge the Wink is Bluetooth-only and fully functional at the door. See what a gateway adds (Chapter 08).
PIN Code Not Available No number pad on the Wink. PINs belong to the lock's own keypad, or to an igloohome Keypad (EK1) linked to the lock.
Fingerprint Not Available No fingerprint sensor on the Wink; the Mortice V2 + Fingerprint and the Deadbolt Go carry their own.
RFID Card / Tag Not Available No card or tag reader on the Wink.

Compatible igloohome Locks and Devices

igloohome lists the Wink as working with its whole current lock range. These are the compatible products we stock; each is linked from the Wink's settings in the igloohome app, up to five per Wink, and the lock has to be within about 3 to 5 metres of the reader. The Bridge is the one accessory igloohome names for the Wink.

Product Model What the Wink does for it Notes
Igloohome Smart Mortice Lock V2 IGM3 (Mortise 2) Adds face unlock to a PIN, RFID and app mortice lock that has no biometric of its own. Hinged front doors with a mortice prep. See its access methods.
Igloohome Smart Mortice Lock V2 + Fingerprint IGM4 (Mortise 2+) A second biometric - face for the household, fingerprint stays on the lock. Same door types as the V2. See its V2 comparison.
Igloohome Deadbolt Go DBX1 / DBX2 Face unlock on a fingerprint deadbolt - useful where a wet or worn finger fails. Retrofit or new-install deadbolt; IP54 sheltered position. See its access methods.
Igloohome Retrofit Lock OE1 Gives an interior-mount overlay lock an exterior credential without a keypad. Euro-cylinder doors; the Wink goes on the outside, the lock stays inside. See its cylinder compatibility.
Igloohome Smart Bluetooth Padlock 2 SP2 Face unlock for a gate, shed or cage padlock. The padlock has to hang within the 3 to 5m link range of the Wink. See its access methods.
Igloohome Keybox 3 IGK3 Face-opened key safe for a cleaner or carer who collects a key. Key handover rather than a door lock. See its access methods.
Igloohome Switch Door Controller SW1 Face entry on a lobby, office or gate door that runs on an electric strike or maglock. The Switch is the relay; the Wink is the credential at the door. See the Switch's access methods.
Igloohome Wi-Fi Bridge EB1 Accessory, not a lock: brings the Wink online for notifications, remote settings and remote face deletion. 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only - read the band-steering note. One Bridge serves up to five locks or devices.

igloohome's full compatible list also names locks not sold on this site. If you have an igloohome lock bought elsewhere, ask Terry's Locksmiths before ordering the Wink.

A compatible igloohome lock for the Wink to operate; a USB-C power adapter rated 10W (5V 2A) for charging - the cable is supplied, the wall adapter is not; a 9-24V DC 24W supply if you hard-wire it; a Bluetooth smartphone with the igloohome app; a cordless drill with a 2mm (pilot) or 6mm (anchor) bit and a Phillips screwdriver if you screw-mount. Optional: the Wi-Fi Bridge for remote management. Terry's Locksmiths can supply the lock, the Bridge and a matched power supply with the Wink.

Suitable Uses

  • Family front doors on an igloohome lock where arms are full - prams, shopping, kids - and nobody wants to dig out a phone or type a code. See regular front door locks.
  • Homes and units with a front gate and a main door: link both to one Wink and a single scan opens the pair - igloohome's multi-point access. Gate-side locks are in the external gate category.
  • Older residents, NDIS participants and anyone who finds a keypad or a phone awkward - a glance at the reader is the whole interaction.
  • Short-stay and Airbnb properties on igloohome locks, where a guest registers their own face remotely for the length of the booking and a courier gets a one-time algoPass for the gate - alongside the algoPIN system Chapter 07 covers for igloohome short-stay set-ups.
  • Glass doors and other doors with no power at the frame: the Wink's own battery and the lock's own battery mean no cabling, and igloohome points at exactly this case. See frameless glass door locks.
  • Offices, clinics and small commercial doors on an igloohome Mortice or the Switch door controller, where staff come and go all day - hard-wire the Wink to 9-24V DC and forget about charging. Browse the app-enabled range and the full igloohome range.

Mounting and Placement

  • Where: as close to the lock and the entry as the wall allows - igloohome says a short distance to the lock gives faster unlocking, and the linked lock must be within about 3 to 5m. Put it where a person naturally stops to open the door and faces the reader, not where they approach side-on.
  • Height: 1.4m from the ground is the guide's figure, chosen so people from 100cm to 195cm tall are read; igloohome's spec table allows 1.2 to 1.5m. Registering a face at the same height it will be read helps.
  • Adhesive mounting: wipe the surface with a dry cloth, let it dry, peel the backing from the bracket, position it and press firmly for 30 seconds. Suits smooth, clean, flat surfaces - glass, powder-coated metal, laminate.
  • Screw mounting: mark the two holes from the bracket (they sit 81.5mm apart), drill 2mm pilot holes into timber or 6mm holes for the supplied anchors in masonry, fix the bracket with the two Phillips screws. Use this on brick, render, block and anywhere the adhesive could lift in the heat.
  • Fitting the reader: charge it or wire it first, then slide the Wink down onto the bracket and lock it from underneath with the T10 Torx screwdriver in the box. The security screw is what stops the reader being lifted off the wall; keep the driver.
  • Hard-wiring: the 9-24V DC cable passes through the hole in the bracket to the screw terminals on the back of the reader; polarity does not matter. Have a licensed installer run the supply - Terry's Locksmiths does this as part of the installation.
  • Light and glare: the cameras read in the dark thanks to the infrared illumination, but a low sun or a bright backdrop directly behind the person makes any face reader work harder. Where you can, mount it so the person is lit from the front or the side.

Battery, Power and Jumpstart

  • The Wink has a built-in rechargeable battery - there are no cells to replace. Charge it with the supplied USB-C cable from a 10W (5V 2A) USB-C adapter; igloohome asks for at least 30 minutes on the charger before the first set-up, and the reader must be powered to be found by the app.
  • igloohome quotes three months or more per charge, on a test of 10 unlocks and 10 wake-ups a day. Your figure depends on traffic, the detection distance you choose (a wider wake-up zone wakes the reader more often) and how often it syncs; the app shows the battery level on the Wink's page.
  • For a busy door, hard-wire it to 9-24V DC (24W) through the bracket - the screw terminals are non-polarised - and charging stops being a chore. This is the set-up for an office door, a lobby on the Switch, or any high-traffic entry.
  • Low battery: the status LED breathes red when the Wink wakes and you hear three quick descending tones; the app shows the level too. Charge it then, and you never need the next step.
  • Flat battery: plug a power bank, or a phone that supports reverse charging, into the USB-C port on the underside of the reader. Within a few seconds the Wink lights up and you can unlock with your face or another credential while it is powered. The lock's own credentials - app, PIN, fingerprint, key - are unaffected by a flat Wink.
  • Out of the box the Wink ships in a sleep mode and is not discoverable; powering it by USB-C or DC puts it into pairing mode, and after 180 seconds without interaction it goes back to sleep. Wave a hand over the top of the reader to wake it again.

LED and Audio Indicators

One status LED under the cameras and a small speaker tell you what the Wink is doing. The LED stays red on a freshly paired Wink until the first face is registered.

Event LED Sound
Bluetooth connection to the app Flashes blue -
Presence detected / scanning a face Breathes white -
Unlocked Blinks green 4 fast rising tones
Credential not recognised Blinks red 4 short beeps
Face registration successful Blinks green 1 long beep
Face registration failed Blinks red 2 short beeps
Security lockout on Blinks red Low-high siren for 30, 60 or 90 seconds
Security lockout off - 2 long beeps
Low battery Breathes red on wake 3 fast falling tones
Hard reset mode Blinks blue 3 short beeps
Hard reset / unpair done Blinks red, green, blue 4 slow falling tones
Paired, no face registered yet Red -

The printed guide and igloohome's support article swap the tones for face registration success and failure (one long beep versus four short beeps); the LED colour is the same in both, so go by the colour.

igloohome App - Pairing, Linking and Face Registration

The Wink lives in the same igloohome app as the rest of the igloohome range - one account, your locks and the reader side by side, algoPIN and algoPass credentials generated offline. The app is available for iOS and AndroidiOS App StoreAndroid Google Play. For how the igloohome platform compares with the others we sell, see Chapter 15 - Smart Lock App Platforms. Terry's Locksmiths sets the Wink up with you as part of the installation.

From the box to the first face:

  1. Power it: charge for at least 30 minutes on a 10W USB-C adapter, or wire the DC supply. Power puts the Wink into pairing mode; a red LED means no face is registered yet. If it has gone quiet, wave a hand over the top to wake it.
  2. Pair: in the igloohome app tap Pair lock or device. Let the app find the Wink over Bluetooth and tap Pair, or choose Wink under Reader and pair it manually. The LED blinks blue while they talk and green when pairing succeeds.
  3. Link the locks: Home, Reader, your Wink, Wink Settings, Linked Devices & Readers, Create Link, choose the lock, Done. Up to five locks or devices per Wink; you need to be in Bluetooth range of the Wink while you do it. Link a Bridge the same way if you want remote management.
  4. Register a face (WinkPass): Access, Create Access, WinkPass, Add Face, then follow the prompts to scan - stand about 80cm away in good light, sunglasses off, eyes and face clear. Accept igloohome's privacy disclaimer and tap Create Access. A long beep and a green blink confirm it.
  5. Remote self-registration: for a guest or a cleaner, send them igloohome's self-registration so they enrol their own face on their phone, with an expiry you set - no app download on their side. Rename a credential from the Access tab at any time; deleting one needs Bluetooth range or a linked Bridge.
  6. Tune it: in Settings, choose the Detection Distance (Near, Default or Far), set the Security Lockout attempt count, and set the volume. Check the activity log and battery level on the Wink's page in the app.

Set-up, pairing, registration and account questions go to Terry's Locksmiths. We supply and install the Wink and support it afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Wink a lock? What do I need to make it work?
No - it is a reader. It recognises your face and tells a compatible igloohome lock to unlock over Bluetooth, so you need one of those locks within about 3 to 5 metres: the Mortice V2, Mortice V2 + Fingerprint, Deadbolt Go, Retrofit Lock, Padlock 2, Keybox 3 or the Switch. Beyond that, a smartphone with the igloohome app and a USB-C adapter for charging. If you are buying the lock at the same time, Terry's Locksmiths will supply and fit the pair together.
How many people can use it, and how do they get registered?
Up to 100 faces. The owner registers a face from the igloohome app with a live scan in front of the Wink - about 80cm away, decent light, sunglasses off - and igloohome also offers remote self-registration, where the person enrols their own face on their phone through a link you send, with an expiry date you set. That is how a cleaner, a carer, a guest or a delivery contractor gets in without you being there. Registered faces can be renamed or deleted from the Access tab; deleting needs you in Bluetooth range or a Bridge.
Where does my face data go?
Nowhere. igloohome states that the biometric data stays on the Wink and is never stored in the cloud; the match is made on the device. The app holds the credential's name and validity, not the face template. For a home that is the end of the story. For a strata lobby, an office or a short-stay property, enrolling other people's faces brings the Privacy Act into play - Chapter 06 explains what notice and consent look like in practice.
How long does the battery last, and what happens if it goes flat?
igloohome quotes three months or more per charge on a test of 10 unlocks and 10 wake-ups a day; a busier door or a wider detection zone shortens that. You get a red breathing LED and three falling tones well before it dies, and the app shows the level. If it does go flat, a power bank on the USB-C port underneath jumpstarts it in seconds, and the lock's own app key, PIN or fingerprint still works regardless. For a door that is used all day, hard-wire the Wink to 9-24V DC and the question goes away.
Can it go outside on a gate or an exposed front door?
Yes. The Wink is rated IP66 - dust-tight and resistant to strong water jets - and 850nm infrared illumination means it reads faces at night without a porch light. Mount it on the gate post or beside the door at 1.2 to 1.5m, keep the linked lock within 3 to 5m, and if you have the choice, avoid a position where the low sun sits directly behind the person approaching. For gate locks the Wink can drive, see the external gate category and the Padlock 2.

Additional Information

Security lockout
Security Lockout - Set the Attempt Count Before You Need It:
After a number of failed attempts that you choose in the app (Settings, Security Lockout - igloohome's example is five), the Wink stops responding to every credential for a period, with a red LED and a siren for 30, 60 or 90 seconds, and clears itself with two long beeps. Legitimate users are locked out for that period too, so on a busy door pick a count that a nervous first-time user will not trip. The linked lock's own app key, PIN or fingerprint is not affected by the Wink's lockout.
Detection distance - battery versus convenience:
The mmWave sensor wakes the Wink before a face is in front of it, and you choose how far out: Near (about 60cm) for a busy hallway or a footpath close to the door, where passers-by would otherwise wake it all day; Default (about 120cm) for a normal house entry; Far (about 180cm) for a wide porch or a quiet driveway where you want it awake before you reach it. Nearer saves battery, farther feels quicker. Change it in Settings, Detection Distance.
Gate and door together - multi-point access:
Link the gate lock and the front door lock to the same Wink and one scan releases both; igloohome built the feature for units and townhouses with a gated entry. Two things decide whether it works on your property: both locks have to be within the Wink's 3 to 5m link range, and the Wink has to be in a position the person faces. If the gate is 10m from the door, use two Winks, or a Wink at the door and the lock's own keypad at the gate.
What the Bridge adds, and what it does not:
On its own the Wink is a Bluetooth device: it works at the door with no internet, and settings changes, face deletions and the activity log are read when your phone is in range. A linked Wi-Fi Bridge puts it online - notifications when someone enters, settings changes and face deletions from anywhere - but it does not change what the Wink reads or how fast it unlocks. The Bridge is 2.4GHz only and needs a power point within Bluetooth range of the Wink; gateway placement (Chapter 08) covers where to put it.
Certifications and the 2D versus 3D question:
igloohome lists FCC, CE and IMDA (Singapore) for the Wink; it does not list the Australian RCM mark, so ask us if your site requires it. On the technology: igloohome describes an infrared camera, a colour camera and on-device AI verification with a false acceptance rate below 0.001%, and does not describe the Wink as a 3D structured-light reader. Chapter 06 explains the difference between the two approaches so you can weigh it for your door.

Igloohome Wink Facial Reader (ER1) - FAQ, Set-up and Owner's Guide

What buyers, hosts, installers and strata managers ask about the Wink, answered in one place. For smart-lock questions in general see Chapter 13 - Smart Lock FAQ; for facial recognition as a technology see Chapter 06 - Facial Recognition. Terry's Locksmiths supplies, installs and supports the Wink - every "contact support" below means contact us.

What the Wink Is and Where It Fits

What is the igloohome Wink, in plain terms?
A face reader that works as a remote control for igloohome locks. The locks keep their own motor, keypad, fingerprint sensor and app key; the Wink adds a camera on the wall that recognises you and sends the unlock over Bluetooth. igloohome calls it a facial recognition module for digital locks. Because it is separate from the lock, it can sit where a face is easiest to read - beside the door at eye level, on a gate post - rather than where the lock happens to be.
When would I buy the Wink instead of a lock with face recognition built in?
When you already have, or want, an igloohome lock. A lock with its own face reader - the face recognition category has several - is one unit on one door. The Wink adds face entry to the whole igloohome range, including locks that have no biometric at all (the Mortice V2, the Retrofit Lock) and things that are not door locks at all (the Padlock 2, the Keybox 3, the Switch), and one Wink can open up to five of them. If you are starting from scratch on a single front door and face entry is the main goal, compare both routes with us first.
Is this a DIY install?
The adhesive mount and the app set-up are within reach of a confident owner, and the guide in the downloads walks through both. Where it stops being DIY: hard-wiring the 9-24V DC supply, screw-mounting into masonry on a gate post, running the Wink with the Switch on a strike or maglock door, and any job where the lock is being fitted at the same time. Terry's Locksmiths installs the Wink and the lock as one package on the Gold Coast - see Advice and Installation.

Faces, Passes and Privacy

How do I register a face?
In the igloohome app: Access, then Create Access, choose WinkPass, tap Add Face and follow the prompts while the person stands about 80cm in front of the Wink. Good light, no sunglasses, eyes and most of the face visible. Read and accept igloohome's privacy disclaimer, tap Create Access, and the Wink blinks green with a long beep. The scan is live - you cannot register from a photo - and igloohome says it works best in a well-lit spot. If registration keeps failing, the lighting and the distance are the first two things to change.
Can a guest or a cleaner register themselves without me there?
Yes - igloohome's self-registration lets a person enrol their own face remotely from their phone, without installing the app, and you set an expiry so the credential lapses when the booking or the contract ends. It is built for exactly the people a short-stay host or a property manager deals with: guests, cleaners, delivery contractors. The face template still ends up on the Wink, not in the cloud. For the rest of a short-stay set-up on igloohome - algoPIN codes, Airbnb Connect, offline operation - see Chapter 07 and using igloohome for Airbnb in Australia.
What is algoPass, and how is it different from algoPIN?
algoPIN is the time-bound PIN code igloohome locks and keypads validate offline. algoPass is the same idea as a picture: a time-bound QR code generated in the igloohome app (or through igloohome's API) that the person shows on their phone screen to the Wink's camera, 35 to 80mm across on screen, read in about 20 milliseconds. igloohome describes it as a one-time pass for a courier that opens the gate but not the main door, and quotes capacity for up to 1,000 active passes. Like algoPIN it needs no internet at the door. The printed guide does not cover algoPass; the detail here comes from igloohome's product page - ask us if your use case depends on it.
Is my face stored in the cloud? Can igloohome see it?
igloohome states that all biometric data is stored locally on the Wink and never in the cloud, and that the device meets global data protection standards. The template lives in the reader; the app carries the credential's name, validity and the activity log. Deleting a face - when a cleaner leaves, say - is done from the Access tab within Bluetooth range of the Wink, or remotely through a linked Bridge. If the Wink is ever sold or moved, delete the registered faces and unpair it first - see the reset note under Security and Lockout.
I manage a strata lobby or an office - can I put residents' or staff faces on it?
You can, with the right process. Collecting a face template is collecting biometric information, which Australian privacy law treats as sensitive: tell people what is collected, why, where it is kept (on the device) and how it is deleted, and get their agreement. The Wink's on-device storage and per-credential expiry make that easier to honour than a cloud-based system, but the obligation is yours as the operator. Chapter 06 - the Privacy Act and face recognition covers it; for a common-access door the Wink typically pairs with the Switch.
Could someone unlock it with a photo of me? Is it 3D?
igloohome describes the Wink as an AI-enabled reader with an infrared camera and a colour camera, verification on the device, and a false acceptance rate below 0.001%; it registers from a live scan, not an upload. It does not describe the Wink as a 3D structured-light reader, and we will not claim more than igloohome does. 2D versus 3D face recognition (Chapter 06) and the liveness detection section explain what the difference means in practice, so you can decide how much weight to put on face entry for your door - and remember the Wink is one credential alongside the lock's own.
Does it work with glasses, hats, masks, beards?
igloohome's only guidance is for registration: take sunglasses off and keep the eyes and most of the face visible. Clear prescription glasses are generally no problem for a reader that registered you with them on; a mask that covers the nose and mouth hides most of what the reader matches on, so expect to lower it. If your appearance changes a lot - a beard grown or shaved - re-register. The lock's app key or PIN is always there as the fallback.

Linking Locks, Gates and the Bridge

Which locks does the Wink work with?
igloohome lists its whole current lock range, and the models we stock are in the compatible locks table: Mortice V2, Mortice V2 + Fingerprint, Deadbolt Go, Retrofit Lock, Padlock 2, Keybox 3 and the Switch door controller. The Wi-Fi Bridge links to it as an accessory. igloohome's list also names locks we do not stock. If you have an igloohome lock bought elsewhere, send us the model and we will check it before you order.
How many locks can one Wink control, and how far away can they be?
Up to five locks or devices per Wink, each linked from Wink Settings, Linked Devices & Readers in the app. The guide's troubleshooting page puts the linked lock within 3 to 5 metres of the reader, and igloohome's placement advice is to mount the Wink as close to the locks as the entry allows. The link is Bluetooth, so a solid brick wall or a steel door between the two shortens that. When you link a lock you need to be in Bluetooth range of the Wink, not necessarily of the lock.
Can one scan open my gate and my front door?
That is igloohome's multi-point access: link both locks to the Wink and a single recognised face releases them together. The practical limit is the 3 to 5m link range - it suits a townhouse or unit with the gate a few metres from the door, not a long driveway. For a far gate, a second Wink or the gate lock's own PIN keypad is the answer. Gate-side igloohome locks here are the Padlock 2 and, on an electric gate lock, the Switch.
Do I need the Wi-Fi Bridge?
Not for the Wink to work - face recognition, algoPass, the lockout and the activity log all run locally over Bluetooth. The Bridge is for the owner who is not standing at the door: it brings notifications, remote settings changes and remote deletion of a registered face. Hosts and property managers usually want it; a family front door usually does not. The Bridge is 2.4GHz only and serves up to five devices, so it can cover the Wink and the locks it drives - read the band-steering note and why smart locks drop off Wi-Fi before you buy a new router for it.
Can I use the Wink and the igloohome Keypad together?
Yes, but they attach to the lock separately - the Wink is a reader linked to the lock, the Keypad (EK1) is a PIN pad linked to the lock, and neither links to the other. The combination gives a door face entry for the household and a PIN for everyone else; on a Switch door it is the usual pairing, because the Switch has no keypad of its own. Note the Keypad's own limits on the Keypad page.

Power and Battery

Battery or hard-wired - which should I choose?
Battery for a home front door, a glass door with no power nearby, or anywhere a cable would be ugly or expensive: three months or more per charge on igloohome's test figures, and charging is a USB-C cable for an hour or two. Hard-wired 9-24V DC for a door used all day - an office, a clinic, a lobby on the Switch - where a flat reader would be noticed by fifty people. The DC terminals are non-polarised and the cable runs through the bracket; the supply itself is not in the box. Both can be combined: wire it and the battery becomes the backup.
What charger do I need, and is it included?
A USB-C adapter rated 10W (5V 2A) - a common phone charger. The USB-C cable is in the box; the wall adapter is not. igloohome asks for at least 30 minutes of charge before the first set-up, because the reader has to be powered to leave its shipping sleep mode and become discoverable to the app.
The battery is flat and I am outside - what now?
Connect a power bank - or a phone that supports reverse charging through its USB-C port - to the port on the underside of the Wink with a USB-C cable. After a few seconds the reader lights up; present your face or algoPass while it is powered and the lock opens. Then take the Wink in and charge it properly. The lock itself never depended on the Wink's battery - the app, PIN, fingerprint or key still works the whole time. igloohome's low-battery warning (red breathing LED, three falling tones) is there so you do not get to this point.
Why is my battery going down faster than three months?
Usually the detection distance. On Far (about 180cm) the mmWave sensor wakes the reader for anyone who walks past within arm's reach of two metres - fine on a quiet porch, wasteful on a footpath. Drop it to Default or Near in Settings. Heavy traffic, frequent syncing through a Bridge and very cold nights all take their share too. igloohome's three-month figure assumes 10 unlocks and 10 wake-ups a day.

Installation and Placement

How high, and at what angle?
1.4m from the ground is the guide's figure, chosen so people from 100cm to 195cm tall are inside the camera's view; igloohome's data sheet gives 1.2 to 1.5m. igloohome also lists an installation angle of 16 to 29 degrees - the reader looks slightly upward at the person rather than straight out. Mount it where the person stops to open the door and faces it squarely; a reader that sees people side-on as they reach for the handle will miss.
Adhesive or screws?
Adhesive on glass, powder-coated aluminium, laminate and any smooth, clean, flat surface: wipe it dry, peel the backing, press for 30 seconds. Screws on brick, render, block, weatherboard and anywhere the sun will cook the adhesive - two holes 81.5mm apart, 2mm pilots in timber or 6mm holes for the supplied anchors in masonry. Either way the reader then slides onto the bracket and is locked from underneath with the T10 Torx screwdriver in the box, so the mounting method decides how well the bracket stays on the wall, not how securely the reader stays on the bracket.
Will rain, sun or night affect it?
Rain no - IP66 covers dust and strong water jets. Night no - the 850nm infrared illumination reads a face in the dark. Sun, sometimes: a low sun or a bright sky directly behind the person is the hardest condition for any camera-based reader, so where you have the choice, mount the Wink so the person is lit from the front or side, or under an eave. The housing is black ABS and will get hot in full Queensland sun; igloohome gives no operating temperature range for the Wink, so a shaded position is good practice as well as good optics.
It wakes up every time someone walks past - can I stop that?
Yes: Settings, Detection Distance, and choose Near (about 60cm). igloohome suggests Near for high-traffic hallways and busy footpaths, Default (about 120cm) for a standard entry and Far (about 180cm) for a wide porch or a low-traffic area. The presence sensor is a mmWave sensor; the distance setting decides how far out it reacts, and nothing else wakes the reader short of a hand waved over the top.
Can I share the Switch's power supply with the Wink?
Electrically the Wink accepts 9-24V DC at 24W, which overlaps the Switch's 9-24V DC input, so a supply sized for both is possible in principle. Whether it is wise depends on the strike or maglock's draw and the cable run to the Wink's position on the outside of the door. Treat it as an installer's decision; Terry's Locksmiths sizes the supply for the whole door when we fit the Switch and the Wink together.

Security and Lockout

What triggers the security lockout, and how do I clear it?
Repeated failed attempts - the number is yours to set in Settings, Security Lockout (igloohome's example is five). The Wink then refuses every credential, including real ones, for a period; the LED blinks red and a siren sounds for 30, 60 or 90 seconds, and two long beeps mark the end. igloohome's article does not say how long the full lockout lasts or how to clear it early, so treat it as a wait. The linked lock's own app key, PIN or fingerprint still works during a Wink lockout.
Can I turn the beeps off?
Yes - volume runs from 0 (mute) to 5 in the app. Muting removes the feedback tones; the LED still shows what happened (green for unlocked, red for refused, white while scanning). A quiet reader suits a shared hallway or a bedroom-adjacent door; keep some volume on a gate so a guest knows the lock has released.
How do I reset or unpair the Wink?
Unpairing from the app removes it from your account; a hard reset takes the Wink back to its unpaired, out-of-the-box state (the LED runs red, green, blue with four slow falling tones when it completes). The guide and igloohome's articles document the indicator but not the button sequence or exactly what is cleared, so contact Terry's Locksmiths before you reset a Wink that is being sold, moved or handed to a new owner - we will walk you through it and confirm the registered faces are gone from the Access tab.
Can I see who came in and when?
Yes. The activity log in the igloohome app lists every access by the credential used - which registered face, which algoPass - alongside the Wink's battery level. Without a Bridge the log updates when your phone syncs within Bluetooth range; with a Bridge it arrives as notifications. For how igloohome's logging compares with other platforms see audit trails (Chapter 07).

Troubleshooting

It will not register my face - it keeps erroring.
Lighting and distance. Stand about 80cm from the reader, in light that falls on your face rather than behind you, take sunglasses off and keep your eyes and most of your face visible. Try again at the height the reader will normally see you. If it still fails, check the battery level and that the Wink is awake (white breathing LED while scanning); then contact Terry's.
My face is recognised (green blink) but the door does not unlock.
The Wink has done its job; the link to the lock is the problem. Check three things from the guide: the lock is actually linked to the Wink in the app (Wink Settings, Linked Devices & Readers); the lock is within 3 to 5m of the Wink with nothing heavy between them; and the lock has power and is switched on - a lock with flat batteries cannot hear the Wink. If all three check out, unlock the lock from the app to prove it works on its own, then contact Terry's.
The app cannot find the Wink to pair it.
It is probably asleep. The Wink ships in a non-discoverable sleep mode and returns to it after 180 seconds without interaction. Connect USB-C power (or confirm the DC supply is live) and wave a hand over the top of the reader; the camera and presence sensor come on and the Wink is discoverable again. Make sure Bluetooth is on and you are standing next to it, then Pair lock or device in the app. If the automatic search still finds nothing, choose Wink under Reader and pair manually.
The LED is solid red.
On a newly paired Wink that simply means no face has been registered yet - add the first WinkPass and it changes. A red blink with four short beeps is a credential it did not recognise; a red blink with a siren is the security lockout; a red breathe when it wakes, with three falling tones, is low battery. The LED and audio table has the full set.

Compliance and Warranty

Is the Wink certified for Australia?
igloohome lists FCC (North America), CE (Europe) and IMDA (Singapore) for the Wink. It does not list the Australian RCM mark, which the igloohome Switch, by contrast, carries - so if your site or your electrician requires RCM-marked equipment, ask us before ordering. The certifications cover the reader, not the lock it drives or the DC supply; Chapter 11 explains what RCM means and when it matters.
What is the warranty, and what do I need to claim?
igloohome warrants the hardware for 1 year against defects in materials, design and workmanship. A claim needs proof of purchase (your invoice), a short video showing the fault, and proof of ownership. Software, consumables, cosmetic damage and normal wear are not covered. Buy through Terry's Locksmiths and we lodge the claim with you. Details on the Returns & Warranty page and the igloohome Warranty Policy.
