Igloohome Switch Door Controller (SW1) - Bluetooth Access Control Relay

The Igloohome Switch Door Controller (model SW1, SKU STK Igloo_Switch) is a compact Bluetooth relay that puts any 9-24V DC electric strike or magnetic lock under the control of the igloo ecosystem. Instead of a lock with its own keypad and motor, you keep - or fit - the electric locking hardware the door already suits, wire it to the Switch, and the Switch does the deciding: it releases the lock for a valid Bluetooth key from the app, a time-bound PIN entered on a linked igloohome Keypad, a press of an exit button, or a remote unlock sent through the igloohome Wi-Fi Bridge. It belongs to the modules and Wi-Fi gateways range at Gold Coast Smart Locks.

It is built for the doors a conventional smart lock does not fit: apartment lobbies and common-access doors, hotel and co-living back-of-house doors, office entries, gates and garages, and any opening that already has - or needs - an electric strike or maglock. The relay output can be wired fail-safe or fail-secure, and the lock can run from the Switch's own output (non-isolated, "wet") or from its own supply with the Switch acting as a dry contact (isolated, "dry"), so it drops into new installations and existing access control systems alike. A request-to-exit input and a door position input sit on the same terminal strip, and the body clips onto a standard 35mm DIN rail or screws to a wall or panel.

Two things to settle before you order. The Switch is rated IP50 for indoor use - outdoors it goes inside an appropriately rated enclosure. And it ships as the controller only: the 9-24V DC power supply, the electric lock, and any exit button or door sensor are chosen to suit the door and bought separately. Set-up and day-to-day control run through the igloohome app for a home or small site, or the iglooworks platform where an organisation needs multiple users, roles and properties. Terry's Locksmiths supplies, installs and supports the Switch locally - talk to us about the door hardware and the platform before you commit.

Supplied, Installed and Supported by Terry's Locksmiths
The Switch is a wired access control product rather than a drop-in smart lock, so most installations start with a conversation about the door hardware and end with a licensed installer on the tools. Terry's Locksmiths handles that end to end on the Gold Coast: choosing the strike or maglock, the power supply and any enclosure, wiring and commissioning, pairing the Switch to your account, and support afterwards. For set-up, pairing, account, troubleshooting and warranty questions, contact Terry's Locksmiths first - including the one situation that cannot be fixed from the app (see the hard reset note below). Our Advice and Installation page explains how a site visit works.
Weather exposure
IP50 - Indoor Rated. Use an Enclosure Outdoors
The Switch is rated IP50 - sealed against dust, not against water - and igloohome intends it for indoor operation between -20°C and 50°C at up to 85% humidity. On a gate, carport, garage or any position that sees weather, mount it inside an enclosure with a rating appropriate to the location; direct exposure to wet conditions shortens its life. The rating covers the controller alone - the strike or maglock, the Keypad, the power supply and any exit button each carry their own.

Key Features

  • Controls any 9-24V DC electric strike, magnetic lock or other electric locking hardware - dry (isolated) or wet (non-isolated) contact - through a relay with Normally Open and Normally Closed outputs rated to 24V at 2A.
  • Wires fail-secure (locked when power is cut, on the NO output) or fail-safe (released when power is cut, on the NC output) to suit the door and its egress requirements.
  • Unlocks from a Bluetooth digital key in the igloohome or iglooworks app, with no internet connection needed at the door.
  • Adds PIN code entry through the igloohome Keypad (EK1) - time-bound algoPIN codes that validate offline, so a code issued remotely works at the door without Wi-Fi.
  • Goes online through the igloohome Wi-Fi Bridge (EB1) for remote unlock, remote credential changes and syncing; the IEF1 Key Fob gives a one-press Bluetooth unlock with no phone.
  • Request-to-exit (REX) input for a push-to-exit button, and a door position (DPI) input for a door contact - both dry-contact, both on the terminal strip.
  • Auto Relock on a timer, DPI Auto Relock that re-secures the door once the contact reports it closed, and a scheduled Passage Mode that holds the door unlocked through busy periods.
  • Powered from a 9-24V DC supply at up to 2A; passes 8.1-24V DC at up to 2A (18-48W) through to the lock in a non-isolated installation. About 1W typical consumption.
  • Real-time clock backed by an on-board rechargeable cell for up to 30 days through a power failure, so schedules survive an outage.
  • Clips onto a 35mm top-hat DIN rail (EN 50022) or screws to a wall, panel or enclosure; 81 x 68 x 23mm, 70g, ABS-PC body with a UL94 V-0 flame rating.
  • Screw terminals take 26-14 AWG wire; two status LEDs on the face report power, Bluetooth activity, relay state and faults.
  • RCM marked for Australia, alongside FCC, ISED, CE-RED, IMDA and RoHS 2; UL 294 performance levels quoted for the access control trade.
  • Backed by igloohome's 1-year hardware warranty and Terry's Locksmiths' local installation and support.

Access Methods

The Switch has no keypad, reader or fingerprint sensor of its own - it is the relay that decides, and the credentials arrive by Bluetooth from the app or from a linked igloo accessory. The table shows what is on the unit, what arrives with an accessory, and the two methods buyers often expect that the igloo ecosystem does not offer on this product. For how these methods compare across brands, see Chapter 03 - Access Methods.

Method Available on the Switch Detail
Bluetooth Digital Key Yes - built in Open the Switch in the igloohome or iglooworks app within Bluetooth range (about 10m line of sight) and tap Sync & Unlock. Owners and admins unlock by default; managers and lock users once they have been granted permission. No internet needed at the door - see Bluetooth access explained (Chapter 03).
Exit Button (REX) Yes - wired input A Normally Open push-to-exit button on the REX terminals releases the lock for 3 seconds by default (adjustable through Auto Relock). An emergency exit button can also be wired as a direct interrupt between the lock and its power, independent of the Switch.
PIN Code With the Keypad (EK1) The Switch has no number pad, so PINs are created for, and entered on, a linked igloohome Keypad: permanent, duration, one-time, recurring, custom and algoPIN time-bound codes. algoPIN codes validate offline - no Wi-Fi at the door. See how algoPIN works (Chapter 07).
Key Fob With the IEF1 Key Fob igloohome's IEF1 is a Bluetooth fob - one press unlocks without a phone, which suits staff, cleaners and residents who do not carry the app. Up to eight fobs can be linked through a Bridge. The IEF1 is not a stocked line at Gold Coast Smart Locks - ask Terry's Locksmiths about availability. Browse the fob and card range.
Remote Unlock With the Wi-Fi Bridge (EB1) The Bridge links the Switch to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi so the app or the web dashboard can unlock it from anywhere, sync it, and edit or revoke credentials remotely. Without a Bridge the Switch is Bluetooth-only and still fully functional at the door. See what a gateway adds (Chapter 08).
Fingerprint Not Available No biometric reader on the Switch or on any accessory it links to.
RFID Card / Tag Not Available The igloo ecosystem's fob is Bluetooth, not RFID; there is no card or tag reader for the Switch.

Compatible igloohome Accessories

igloohome names three accessories for the Switch. None is required - the Switch unlocks from the app on its own - but each adds a way in or a way to manage it. The Keypad is the one most Switch installations end up with, because it is how anyone without the app gets through the door.

Accessory Model What it adds to the Switch Notes
igloohome Keypad EK1 PIN code entry at the door - permanent, duration, one-time, recurring, custom and time-bound algoPIN codes, generated without Wi-Fi. IP66 and battery powered, so it mounts outside while the Switch stays in. Link it to the Bridge as well if you want custom PINs or remote PIN edits. Mounting and battery details on the Keypad page.
igloohome Wi-Fi Bridge EB1 Brings the Switch online - remote unlock, remote syncing, and creating, editing or revoking credentials from anywhere. 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only - read the band-steering note before you buy a router. Needs a powered outlet within Bluetooth range of the Switch.
igloohome Key Fob IEF1 One-press Bluetooth unlock with no phone - for staff, residents and contractors who will not run the app. Up to eight fobs per Bridge. Not a stocked line at Gold Coast Smart Locks - contact Terry's Locksmiths.

A regulated 9-24V DC power supply rated for the Switch plus the lock (up to 2A); the electric locking hardware itself - an electric strike, magnetic lock or similar; a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone with the igloohome or iglooworks app; a screwdriver or drill. Optional: a request-to-exit button, a door position switch, and an enclosure rated for the location if the Switch is going outdoors. Terry's Locksmiths can supply the strike or maglock, the power supply and the enclosure with the Switch - see the power accessories range.

Suitable Uses

  • Apartment and co-living common-access doors - lobby, bin room, bike store, rooftop and gym doors that already have an electric strike or maglock and need resident PINs, app keys and a clean audit trail without rekeying.
  • Hotels, serviced apartments and short-stay buildings where the front door or a back-of-house door is on a maglock and guests, cleaners and contractors need time-limited codes - the same algoPIN system Chapter 07 covers for igloohome short-stay set-ups.
  • Offices, clinics and clubs that want a scheduled Passage Mode through business hours and locked, credentialed entry outside them, with a push-to-exit button on the inside.
  • Gates, garages, gantries and carparks on an electric gate lock or strike - the Switch sits indoors or in a rated enclosure and the Keypad takes the weather. See the external gate category for lock options built for exposed positions.
  • Retrofits onto an existing access control panel: wired as an isolated dry contact, the Switch simply adds Bluetooth, PIN and remote credentials to a door the panel already powers.
  • Any igloo ecosystem site - a building already running igloohome or iglooworks locks that wants its strike-and-maglock doors on the same app, dashboard and credential set. Browse the full igloohome range and the smart lock accessories.

Wiring and Terminals

Everything connects at one screw-terminal strip along the bottom edge. Power the Switch and the lock down before touching any wiring, and read the polarity warning below before you power up - it is the one mistake the hardware cannot forgive. The four wiring diagrams (wet and dry, NO and NC) are on page 2 of the Quick Start Guide and Specification Card in the downloads, and the installer guide walks each connection through page by page.

Terminal Function Rating / Notes
INPUT DC+ / DC- Power into the Switch 9-24V DC, 2A required; polarised - + to DC+, - to DC-. Reverse polarity here is protected (the unit simply will not start)
OUTPUT DC+ / DC- Power out to the lock (non-isolated / wet installations) 8.1-24V DC, up to 2A (18-48W), drawn from the Switch's own supply. Never feed power into these terminals
REX / COM Request-to-exit input Dry contact, Normally Open button - pressing closes the circuit and releases the lock (3s default). 9-24V DC, under 50mA
DPI / COM Door position input Dry contact from a door sensor, NO or NC - orientation does not matter; choose NO or NC in the app after pairing (off by default)
NC Relay - Normally Closed Maximum 24V at 2A. Fail-safe locks (released when power is cut) wire here
NO Relay - Normally Open Maximum 24V at 2A. Fail-secure locks (locked when power is cut) wire here
COM Relay common Pairs with NC or NO; can drive an existing control panel as a dry contact
RESET Recessed hard-reset button Hold 5 seconds with a pin to restore factory settings - clears every credential and setting

Two ways to wire the lock. In an isolated (dry) installation the lock runs from its own power supply and the Switch's NC / NO / COM contacts simply make or break that circuit - there is no electrical path between the Switch and the lock, which is the arrangement to use when you are adding the Switch to an existing access control panel. In a non-isolated (wet) installation the Switch powers the lock itself from the OUTPUT terminals, so one supply runs both; the supply then has to cover the Switch's 1W plus whatever the strike or maglock draws, within the 2A ceiling.

Fail-safe or fail-secure is set by which relay contact you use. A fail-secure strike stays locked when power is cut and wires to NO; a fail-safe maglock or strike releases when power is cut and wires to NC. Which one a door needs is an egress and fire-safety decision, not a convenience one - on an escape route the door has to open from the inside regardless of what the Switch is doing, which is why the installer guide also shows an emergency exit button wired as a direct interrupt between the lock and its power, outside the Switch entirely. Terry's Locksmiths will advise on the right configuration for your door as part of the installation.

Run Recommended wire (AWG) Maximum length
INPUT (isolated) 22 182m
INPUT (non-isolated) 18 457m
OUTPUT 18 457m
REX 22 457m
DPI 22 457m
NC / NO / COM 18 457m
igloohome's recommended wiring table. The terminals accept 26-14 AWG; these are the gauges and run lengths the Switch is specified against.
Warning
Power Goes to INPUT Only - Never to OUTPUT
Connect your power supply to the INPUT DC+ / DC- terminals and nothing else. Power wired to the INPUT in reverse is harmless - the Switch is protected and simply stays off. Power wired into the OUTPUT terminals with the correct polarity is also caught by the protection. Power wired into the OUTPUT in reverse polarity is not, and can damage the internal circuits. Check the supply's voltage (9-24V DC) and polarity with a meter before you power up, and expect a solid green PWR LED when it is right.

Power

  • The Switch runs from a regulated 9-24V DC supply on the INPUT terminals and draws about 1W itself. It does not take AC, and there is no battery option - it is a permanently powered device.
  • In a non-isolated installation the same supply also powers the lock through the OUTPUT terminals (8.1-24V DC, up to 2A, 18-48W), so size the supply for the Switch plus the strike or maglock, with headroom. In an isolated installation the lock has its own supply and the Switch's draw is the only load.
  • No power supply is included. Match the voltage to the lock (a 12V strike wants a 12V supply; a 24V maglock a 24V one) and buy a supply rated for the location - Terry's Locksmiths can specify and supply it with the Switch. See the power accessories range.
  • A rechargeable on-board cell keeps the real-time clock running for up to 30 days through a power cut, so time-bound PINs and Passage Mode schedules stay accurate when power returns. It does not operate the relay - with the power off, a fail-safe lock is released and a fail-secure lock stays locked, exactly as wired.
  • When power is restored the PWR LED lights solid green within moments; if it does not, check voltage and polarity at the INPUT terminals first.

LED Status Indicators

Two LEDs on the face tell the installer what the Switch is doing. PWR is simple - green or off. STATUS carries the rest.

LED State Meaning What to do
PWR Off No power Check the INPUT supply is 9-24V DC and the polarity is right
PWR Green, solid Powered Nothing - normal
STATUS Off Idle - no operation, or Bluetooth off / out of range Turn Bluetooth on in the phone and move closer - within about 3m line of sight
STATUS Blue, blinking Bluetooth communication in progress Wait for it to finish
STATUS Green, solid Relay active - NC or NO triggered, lock released If the lock did not release, check the wiring to the lock or panel; the voltage between NC / NO and COM should match the INPUT
STATUS Red, solid Protection tripped - over-current, over-voltage or over-temperature Power down, check every connection and confirm the INPUT is 9-24V DC
STATUS Red, slow blink Hardware or firmware fault at boot Confirm INPUT voltage, disconnect and reconnect the INPUT wires, confirm the OUTPUT voltage matches the INPUT - then contact Terry's Locksmiths
STATUS Red, fast blink Factory state - the unit has been reset and is unpaired Contact Terry's Locksmiths to arrange re-pairing (see the hard reset note)

igloohome and iglooworks - App Platform and Set-up

The Switch belongs to the igloo ecosystem, and igloohome offers two front ends for it. The igloohome app is the consumer platform the rest of the igloohome range runs on - one login, a handful of locks, PIN and key sharing, no permission tiers. iglooworks is igloohome's platform for organisations: an admin-issued account and organisation ID, a mobile app for pairing and operating the Switch within Bluetooth range, and a web dashboard for issuing credentials, managing properties, teams and roles (owner, admin, manager, lock user) and reading activity logs. The installer guide supplied with the Switch is written for iglooworks, and that is the fit for strata, hotels and multi-site operators; a home, a single office or a small site is usually better served by the igloohome app. Both are available for iOS and AndroidiOS App StoreAndroid Google Play, and the iglooworks dashboard runs in Chrome, Safari or Firefox. For the platform comparison see Chapter 15 - Smart Lock App Platforms; Terry's Locksmiths will set the account up with you as part of the installation.

Pairing and first unlock (iglooworks path, from the installer guide):

  1. Get your account: your organisation's admin invites you; register, then sign in to the iglooworks app with your account and organisation ID. (On the igloohome app, create or sign in to your igloohome account instead.)
  2. Power up: confirm the PWR LED is solid green before you start - a Switch with no power cannot be found.
  3. Pair: Locks, then Pair New Lock; choose the property, tap Next, select the Switch as the lock model and follow the prompts. The STATUS LED blinks blue while the phone and the Switch talk.
  4. Unlock by Bluetooth: pick the Switch from the lock list and tap Sync & Unlock, with Bluetooth on and the phone within range. Owners and admins can do this immediately; managers and lock users once the dashboard grants them the lock.
  5. Set the behaviour: in Lock Settings, switch Auto Relock on and set the relock time; turn Set DPI on and choose NO or NC to match the door sensor you wired; set DPI Auto Relock and its timer; and build a Passage Mode schedule if the door should sit unlocked through set hours.
  6. Add accessories and check firmware: link the Keypad, Bridge or Key Fob from the app, and check Firmware Version in the lock menu - updates download and install over Bluetooth.

Set-up, pairing, account and permission questions go to Terry's Locksmiths. We supply and install the Switch and support it afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Switch work with the electric strike or maglock already on my door?
Almost certainly, if it runs on 9-24V DC and draws no more than 2A - which covers the common 12V and 24V strikes and maglocks. The Switch does not care about the brand; it either powers the lock itself (non-isolated, from its OUTPUT terminals) or makes and breaks the lock's existing circuit through its NC / NO / COM contacts (isolated). Fail-safe hardware goes on NC, fail-secure on NO. AC-powered locks are the exception - the Switch does not take or switch AC. If you are not sure what is on the door, send Terry's Locksmiths a photo of the lock and its power supply before you order.
Do I use the igloohome app or iglooworks?
Either - igloohome lists the Switch as working with both. The igloohome app is the right fit for a home, a single small office or a site with a few doors and one person managing them. iglooworks is the organisational platform: admin-issued accounts, an organisation ID, roles for owners, admins, managers and lock users, multiple properties, and a web dashboard for issuing credentials and reading logs - the choice for strata buildings, hotels, co-living and anyone managing doors across sites. The installer guide in the box describes the iglooworks path. Tell Terry's Locksmiths how the site will be run and we will set the Switch up on the platform that suits it; which smart lock platform is right for you walks through the broader decision.
How do people get through the door - do I need the Keypad?
Out of the box the Switch unlocks for a Bluetooth digital key in the app and for an exit button on the inside. That is enough for a door used only by people who carry the app. The moment you need to give someone a code - a cleaner, a tenant without a smartphone, a delivery, a guest - you need the igloohome Keypad (EK1), because the Switch has no number pad of its own and PINs can only be entered there. The Keypad is weatherproof and battery powered, mounts outside, and issues time-bound algoPIN codes that validate offline, so the codes work even when nothing at the door has internet. The Key Fob and the Wi-Fi Bridge are the other two ways in - see the access methods table.
What else do I have to buy?
At minimum a regulated 9-24V DC power supply and the electric locking hardware if the door does not already have it - neither is in the box. Depending on the door you may also want a push-to-exit button for the inside, a door position switch so the Switch can relock the instant the door closes, an enclosure if the Switch is going anywhere it could get wet, and the Keypad if anyone will use a PIN. A typical common-access door at Terry's is the Switch, a 12V strike or 24V maglock, a matched power supply, an exit button and a Keypad, installed and commissioned in one visit.
Can the Switch go outside on a gate?
Not on its own. It is IP50 - dust protected, not water protected - and rated for indoor use between -20°C and 50°C. On a gate, carport or garage the Switch mounts inside an enclosure rated for the location, or indoors with the cable run out to the gate lock within igloohome's recommended wire lengths. The Keypad is the part that takes the weather: it is IP66, so it mounts at the gate while the controller stays dry. Our external gate category covers lock options built for exposed positions.

Additional Information

Warning
Hard Reset - Call Terry's Before You Press It:
Holding the recessed RESET button for 5 seconds (until the STATUS LED glows red, then blinks red) wipes every credential and setting and returns the Switch to factory state. Unlike most smart locks, a factory-reset Switch cannot simply be paired again from the app - igloohome's guide is explicit that re-pairing after a hard reset has to go through customer support. If the Switch is being moved to another account, sold on, or set up again, contact Terry's Locksmiths first and we will arrange it through the right channel. Keep the hard reset for the case where the app genuinely cannot reach the unit and you have been told to do it; the troubleshooting steps in the LED table come first.
Fail-safe or fail-secure - decide for the door, not the Switch:
The Switch will drive either; which one is right depends on the door. A fail-secure strike keeps the door locked through a power cut and suits a storeroom, bike cage or plant room where security matters more than free passage - but it means a flat power supply locks everyone out from the credential side, so a key override on the lock hardware is worth having. A fail-safe maglock releases when power is lost, which is what an escape route needs, and is why maglocks on exit paths are paired with a break-glass or emergency exit button wired as a direct interrupt to the lock's power, outside the Switch. Building and fire codes decide this on common-access and egress doors; Terry's Locksmiths assesses it on the site visit.
Running it on iglooworks - what to expect:
A few iglooworks behaviours catch new users out. Every account is logged out automatically after an hour, for security. PINs for the Switch are created on the web dashboard by owners, admins and managers (and common-access offline PINs in the mobile app), and always for the linked Keypad - the Switch itself has nothing to type a code into. The current release supports common-access PIN creation on the Switch in a flat organisation (one department). A lock can sit in more than one property as long as the properties share a time zone, a property cannot be deleted while locks are assigned to it, and a mistake in a team member's details is fixed by deleting and re-inviting them. Activity shows on the dashboard after the Switch is synced - by the app in Bluetooth range, or automatically through the Bridge.
Placement and Bluetooth range:
The phone, the Keypad, the Key Fob and the Bridge all reach the Switch by Bluetooth, and igloohome quotes roughly 10m line of sight. A steel enclosure, a plant-room wall or a distribution board between the Switch and the door will cut that down, so mount the Switch as close to the door as the wiring allows and test the Keypad and a phone from where people will actually stand before you close the enclosure. If you add a Wi-Fi Bridge, it needs a powered outlet within Bluetooth range of the Switch and Wi-Fi range of the router at the same time - the gateway placement guidance (Chapter 08) applies.
Certifications and the UL 294 levels:
The Switch carries the Australian RCM mark along with FCC and ISED (North America), CE-RED (Europe), IMDA (Singapore) and RoHS 2, and its ABS-PC body is UL94 V-0 flame rated. igloohome also rates it to UL 294 performance levels - Attack Level I, Endurance Level IV, Line Security Level I and Standby Power Level I. UL 294 is the North American access control standard, and the levels describe how the controller performed on each test family (I is the entry level, IV the highest); they are useful context for a security consultant comparing controllers, not an Australian certification, and they say nothing about the strike or maglock the Switch drives. See Chapter 11 - Australian Smart Lock Standards for the standards that apply locally.

Igloohome Switch Door Controller (SW1) - FAQ, Installation and Owner's Guide

What buyers, installers and building managers ask about the SW1 Switch, answered in one place. For smart-lock questions in general see Chapter 13 - Smart Lock FAQ; for how the igloohome platform compares with the others we sell see Chapter 15 - Smart Lock App Platforms. Terry's Locksmiths supplies, installs and supports the Switch - every "contact support" below means contact us.

What the Switch Is and Where It Fits

What is the igloohome Switch, in plain terms?
It is a relay with a brain. A conventional smart lock bolts onto the door and contains the keypad, the motor and the decision-making in one body. The Switch separates those: the locking is done by an ordinary electric strike or magnetic lock, and the Switch - a small box on a DIN rail or a wall - decides when to release it, based on a Bluetooth key from the app, a PIN typed on a linked Keypad, a press of an exit button, or a remote command through the Wi-Fi Bridge. igloohome calls it a Bluetooth door controller. The practical result is that any door with electric locking hardware can join the igloo ecosystem without changing the lock.
When would I choose the Switch over an igloohome smart lock?
When the door is not a normal hinged entry door with a mortice or deadbolt prep, or when the locking hardware is already decided. Lobby doors on maglocks, glass doors with electric strikes, gates with gate locks, garages, gantries, and doors that an existing access control panel already powers are all Switch territory. For a front door of a house or apartment, a lock like the Deadbolt Go or the Retrofit Lock is simpler - no wiring, no power supply, no enclosure. Both routes run on the same igloo platform and the same Keypad and Bridge accessories.
Is this a DIY install?
Usually not. The Switch itself is simple to mount and wire, but the job around it - selecting and fitting a strike or maglock, sizing a power supply, wiring an exit button, and making the fail-safe or fail-secure call on a door people escape through - is electrical and access control work with code implications. Terry's Locksmiths installs the Switch as a complete door package on the Gold Coast; see Advice and Installation. If you have your own electrician or access control contractor, the installer guide in the downloads has every wiring diagram they need.

Wiring, Power and Lock Types

What power supply does the Switch need?
A regulated DC supply between 9V and 24V able to deliver 2A, wired to the INPUT DC+ and DC- terminals with the polarity right. The Switch does not accept AC. It draws about 1W itself; if it is also powering the lock from its OUTPUT terminals, the supply has to cover the lock as well, inside the 2A limit - so pick the supply around the strike or maglock (12V hardware on a 12V supply, 24V hardware on 24V) and leave headroom. No supply is in the box; we supply one matched to the lock with the installation.
What is the difference between isolated and non-isolated wiring?
Who powers the lock. Non-isolated ("wet") means the Switch does: the lock hangs off the Switch's OUTPUT terminals, which pass 8.1-24V DC at up to 2A from the Switch's own supply - one supply, one cable run, the simplest new installation. Isolated ("dry") means the lock keeps its own power supply and the Switch's NC / NO / COM relay contacts just open or close that circuit, with no electrical connection between the two - the right choice when you are adding the Switch to an access control panel or a lock that is already powered. Both arrangements are drawn on page 2 of the Quick Start Guide and Specification Card in the downloads.
Fail-safe or fail-secure - which output do I use?
Fail-secure hardware (locked when power is cut, typically an electric strike) goes on the Normally Open contact; fail-safe hardware (released when power is cut, typically a maglock) goes on the Normally Closed contact. The Switch supports both, so the question is really about the door: an escape route generally has to release on power loss, a storeroom generally should not. On exit paths the installer guide also shows an emergency exit button wired straight into the lock's power circuit, so the door can always be opened from the inside no matter what the controller is doing. This is the decision Terry's makes with you on the site visit.
What happens if I wire the power the wrong way round?
Depends where. Reversed polarity on the INPUT terminals is protected - the Switch will not start, and no harm is done; swap the wires. Power accidentally fed into the OUTPUT terminals with the correct polarity is also caught by the protection. Power fed into the OUTPUT terminals in reverse is the one that can damage the internal circuits. So: power only ever goes to INPUT, check voltage and polarity with a meter before you connect, and power everything down before touching the terminals. A solid green PWR LED is the sign you got it right.
How far can the Switch be from the door, and what cable?
The screw terminals take 26-14 AWG. igloohome's recommended runs are 18 AWG up to 457m for the OUTPUT and the NC / NO / COM relay wiring, 22 AWG up to 457m for the REX and DPI inputs, 18 AWG up to 457m for a non-isolated INPUT and 22 AWG up to 182m for an isolated one. In practice the Bluetooth range is the tighter limit - the phone, Keypad and Fob have to reach the Switch, and igloohome quotes about 10m line of sight - so the Switch normally lives near the door it controls, in a riser, cupboard or enclosure.

Access, Credentials and Accessories

How does a Bluetooth unlock work?
Open the app within range of the Switch - about 10m line of sight - select the Switch from the lock list and tap Sync & Unlock. The STATUS LED blinks blue while the phone and the Switch talk, then turns solid green while the relay is active and the lock is released. No internet is involved: the credential is checked on the Switch. On iglooworks, owners and admins can unlock immediately; managers and lock users once the dashboard has granted them the lock. If the app times out, turn the phone's Bluetooth off and on, restart the app, and move closer - see Bluetooth access explained (Chapter 03).
Can I create PIN codes on the Switch?
No - it has no number pad. PINs belong to the igloohome Keypad (EK1) linked to the Switch: you create them on the iglooworks dashboard (owners, admins and managers) or in the app, and users type them on the Keypad at the door. The Keypad supports permanent, duration, one-time, recurring and custom codes plus algoPIN, igloohome's time-bound codes that are generated and validated without any internet connection. Link the Keypad to the Bridge as well if you want custom PINs or the ability to edit and delete codes remotely. How algoPIN works (Chapter 07) explains the offline mechanism.
Do I need the Wi-Fi Bridge?
Only for remote control. Without a Bridge the Switch is fully functional at the door - Bluetooth keys, Keypad PINs, the exit button and the schedules all work locally - but the app can only reach it from within Bluetooth range, and activity logs reach the dashboard only when someone syncs the Switch on site. Add the igloohome Wi-Fi Bridge (EB1) and you get remote unlock from anywhere, remote syncing, and remote creation, editing and revoking of credentials. The Bridge is 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, so read its band-steering note first, and see what a gateway does (Chapter 08).
Is there a fob or card option for people who will not use a phone?
A fob, yes - igloohome's IEF1 Key Fob is a Bluetooth fob that unlocks the Switch with one press, no phone and no app, and up to eight of them can be linked through a Bridge. It suits cleaners, residents and contractors. There is no RFID card or tag reader in the igloo ecosystem for the Switch - if swipe cards are a requirement, talk to Terry's about the card and fob access range instead. The IEF1 is not a stocked line at Gold Coast Smart Locks; ask us about availability.
How does the exit button work?
Two ways, and the installer guide shows both. A request-to-exit (REX) button wires to the REX / COM terminals as a Normally Open switch; pressing it closes the circuit and the Switch releases the lock for 3 seconds by default - the relock time is adjustable through the Auto Relock setting. The second method is an emergency exit button wired as a direct interrupt in the lock's power circuit, so it drops the lock regardless of the Switch; that is the arrangement for egress doors, drawn for both isolated and non-isolated installations on page 18 of the guide.

App, Platform and Set-up

What is iglooworks, and how is it different from the igloohome app?
iglooworks is igloohome's platform for organisations. Where the igloohome app is one login managing a few locks with no permission levels, iglooworks gives you an organisation with an ID, accounts for owners, admins, managers and lock users, role-based permissions, bulk user onboarding, properties and lock groups, and a cloud dashboard with activity logs and audit trails - plus an API and SDK for integrations. The mobile app does the Bluetooth work at the door; the dashboard does the administration. It is aimed at property and facility managers running many doors and many people. igloohome lists the Switch as working with either platform; the installer guide in the box is written for iglooworks. See Chapter 15 and the igloohome brand profile (Chapter 10).
How do I pair the Switch?
Power it up and wait for a solid green PWR LED. In the iglooworks app, sign in with your account and organisation ID, go to Locks, tap Pair New Lock, pick the property, tap Next, choose the Switch as the lock model and follow the on-screen steps; the STATUS LED blinks blue during pairing. In the igloohome app the flow is the standard add-a-lock sequence under your own account. Then open Lock Settings to set Auto Relock, the door position input and Passage Mode. Terry's Locksmiths pairs the Switch to your account as part of every installation, so for most customers this step is done before we leave.
Why are my activity logs not showing on the dashboard?
Because the Switch is an offline Bluetooth device until something syncs it. Events are stored on the Switch and reach the dashboard when the app syncs it within Bluetooth range, or automatically if a Wi-Fi Bridge is linked. If logs look stale, sync from the app at the door, or add a Bridge so the sync happens on its own. Note too that iglooworks logs every account out after an hour for security - a dashboard that seems to have stopped updating may simply need a fresh login.
I cannot see the Switch in my app - why?
On iglooworks, a lock is only visible to accounts that have been granted it. Ask your owner, admin or manager to assign the Switch to you on the dashboard. Also check you are signed in to the right organisation ID - every user invited to an organisation signs in with the ID the owner received at sign-up. If you created a team member with a mistake in their details, the current release has no edit function: delete them and invite them again.
Can one Switch belong to more than one property, and can I have departments?
A lock can sit in more than one iglooworks property provided the properties share a time zone - the schedules and time-bound PINs depend on it. A property cannot be deleted while locks are assigned to it; move them first. The current iglooworks release supports common-access PIN creation on the Switch in a flat organisation, that is, a single department. If your organisation needs departmental separation, raise it with Terry's before the roll-out so the account structure is right from the start.

Auto Relock, Door Position and Passage Mode

How does Auto Relock work?
Auto Relock is a timer: when it is on, the Switch re-secures the lock a set time after each release. Owners and admins turn it on under Lock Settings and set the interval with a slider. Before the Switch is paired, a press of the exit button releases the lock for 3 seconds as the default. If you fit a door position switch there is a second mode, DPI Auto Relock, which relocks a set time after the sensor reports the door closed - so the door is never left released because someone pulled it shut quickly or held it open for a trolley.
What is the door position input (DPI) and do I need it?
It is a dry-contact input for a door sensor - a reed switch or similar on the door and frame - wired to the DPI / COM terminals in either orientation. With it, the Switch knows whether the door is open or closed and can relock the instant it closes (DPI Auto Relock) rather than on a blind timer. The input is off by default; after pairing you switch it on in the app and tell it whether your sensor is Normally Open or Normally Closed, and getting that setting right matters or the Switch will read the door backwards. You do not need it for the Switch to work, but on a busy door it is the difference between a lock that re-secures reliably and one that sometimes sits released.
What does Passage Mode do?
It holds the door unlocked on a schedule. An owner or admin sets the days and hours - the installer guide's example keeps a door open from 7pm to 7am on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays - and the door is released for that window after a valid credential starts it, then relocks automatically when the window ends. It is the setting for a reception, a club or a shared facility that is open to all comers during the day and credentialed outside those hours. The 30-day clock backup means the schedule survives a power cut.

Troubleshooting and Reset

The PWR LED will not light - what do I check?
Voltage and polarity, in that order. The supply must deliver between 9V and 24V DC at the INPUT terminals, and + must be on DC+ and - on DC-. A reversed INPUT is harmless but the Switch stays off. Check the terminal screws are tight on bare conductor, not insulation, and that the supply is actually switched on and loaded correctly. If the supply reads right at the terminals and the LED still will not light, contact Terry's Locksmiths.
The Switch does not respond to the app - what do I check?
Bluetooth on, phone within about 10m line of sight, and watch the STATUS LED: it should blink blue when you send a command. If it does not, turn Bluetooth off and on, restart the app and move closer; a steel enclosure or a masonry wall between you and the Switch will shorten the range. If the lock relay fires (STATUS solid green) but the door does not release, the problem is the wiring to the lock or the panel - check it, and check that the voltage between NC / NO and COM matches the INPUT. Only if the Switch stays silent after all of that is a hard reset on the table - and read the next answer before you do it.
What does a hard reset do, and why does the page say to call first?
Holding the recessed RESET button for 5 seconds - the STATUS LED glows red, then blinks red when it is done - wipes every credential and setting and returns the Switch to factory state. The catch is what comes next: igloohome's guide states that re-pairing a hard-reset Switch requires contacting customer support; it does not simply reappear in your app. So a hard reset is not a quick fix, and on a live door it means a period with no app control. Contact Terry's Locksmiths before you press it - we will work through the LED diagnostics with you and, if a reset is the answer, arrange the re-pairing through the right channel.
The STATUS LED is solid red - what does that mean?
Protection has tripped: over-current, over-voltage or over-temperature. Power down, check every connection, confirm the INPUT supply is within 9-24V DC, and make sure the lock is not drawing more than the 2A the Switch can pass. A slow red blink is different - a hardware or firmware fault during boot; confirm the INPUT voltage, disconnect and reconnect the INPUT wires, confirm the OUTPUT voltage matches the INPUT, and if it persists contact Terry's. A fast red blink means the unit is in factory state after a reset and needs re-pairing.

Compliance and Warranty

Is the Switch certified for Australia?
It carries the RCM mark, which is the Australian regulatory compliance mark for electrical and radio equipment, alongside FCC and ISED for North America, CE-RED for Europe, IMDA for Singapore and RoHS 2. igloohome also rates it to UL 294 performance levels (Attack I, Endurance IV, Line Security I, Standby Power I) - a North American access control standard that is useful for comparing controllers but is not an Australian certification. None of this certifies the strike or maglock, the power supply or the installation; those are covered by their own standards and by the installer. Chapter 11 covers the standards that apply to smart locks here.
What is the warranty, and what do I need to claim?
igloohome warrants the hardware for 1 year against defects in materials, design and workmanship. A claim needs proof of purchase (your invoice), a short video showing the defect, and proof of ownership. Software, consumables, cosmetic damage and normal wear and tear are not covered, and nor is damage from powering the OUTPUT terminals or installing the Switch unprotected in a wet position. Buy and install through Terry's Locksmiths and we lodge the claim with you. Details on the Returns & Warranty page and the igloohome Warranty Policy.
