Lockwood 8816LSS Code Handle Keyless Entry Lockset - Left Hand - Satin Stainless Steel
The Lockwood 8816LSS Code Handle is a keyless entry lockset with an integrated keypad built into the lever handle. It provides simple, key-free access using a programmable PIN code, so authorised users can enter without carrying a key. This is the left-hand version of the Code Handle, finished in satin stainless steel.
The Code Handle is a standalone, battery-powered lockset. It has no app, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth connection - all programming is done at the lock itself. Up to nine user codes can be set, each four to six digits long, alongside a separate administration code for managing the lock. It is designed as a straightforward retrofit that replaces an existing door handle on doors already prepared with a standard 54mm lock hole.
Lockwood is an ASSA ABLOY brand and one of Australia's most recognised names in door hardware. The Code Handle suits internal applications such as offices, store rooms, and home study doors where convenient code access is wanted without the cost or complexity of a fully connected smart lock. For background on how a code lock differs from a connected smart lock, see Chapter 01 - Smart vs Connected in the Smart Lock Buyer's Guide.
This is the left-hand Code Handle (8816LSS). The Code Handle's handing is fixed and is not field-reversible - the correct hand must be ordered for your door. The right-hand version is the Lockwood 8816RSS Code Handle - Right Hand. If you are unsure which hand you need, see Understanding Door Handing in Australia - How to Determine Handing and Chapter 02 - Measuring Your Door (Handing). Ordering the wrong hand is a common and avoidable mistake - see what happens if you order the wrong handing.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. It is a standalone electronic keypad lockset with no app, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. All programming is done at the lock, and access is by PIN code only. If you want app control, remote access, or card and fingerprint credentials, this is not the right product - see Chapter 01 - Smart vs Connected and Chapter 03 - Access Methods.
The Code Handle's handing is fixed and cannot be reversed in the field, so you must order the correct hand for your door. This listing is the left-hand version (8816LSS); the right-hand version is the Lockwood 8816RSS Code Handle - Right Hand. For help determining your door's hand, see which products require handing and Chapter 02 - Measuring Your Door.
Yes. The Code Handle runs on AA batteries (included) and is rated for roughly 30,000 operations before replacement. Because it is keyless with no key override, replace the batteries as soon as they are signalled as low so you are not locked out.
No. Lockwood recommends the Code Handle for indoor use only. It is not weather-sealed and is not suitable for external entry doors, gates, or openings exposed to the weather. For an external or exposed door, choose a weather-rated lockset instead.
The lockset is supplied with a Lockwood 530 60mm tubular deadlatch (brass, 13mm projection). A 70mm backset latch (item code 8823-70) is available separately for deeper door preparations. For guidance on backset, see Chapter 02 - Backset and Measuring Your Lock Backset - Standard Sizes.
Additional Information
The Code Handle stores up to nine user codes of four to six digits each, plus a separate administration code used to set lock operation and manage user codes. After five incorrect code attempts, the keypad locks out temporarily to deter guessing. Choose codes that are not easily guessed and update them when staff or occupants change. For where PIN entry sits among access methods, see Chapter 03 - Access Methods (PIN).
The Code Handle is designed to replace an existing door handle. It fits the majority of doors already prepared with a standard 54mm lock hole and a 25mm latch hole, and fitting instructions are included in the box. Confirm your door's backset (60mm supplied, 70mm latch available), thickness (32-55mm), and hand before ordering. See Chapter 02 - Door Thickness for measuring guidance.
The Code Handle can be set to lock manually or automatically, and it offers a passage mode that leaves the door unlocked for free access - useful for doors that need to stay open during the day and locked at night. This flexibility suits offices, store rooms, and studies where access requirements change through the day.
If you want RFID card access, fire-door certification, or DDA compliance on the same Lockwood 530 latch platform, consider the Lockwood Cortex CTX530 digital lockset, which adds a card reader, a fire rating, and DDA-compliant hardware alongside keypad entry.
