The McGrath NX6 is a full-size 5-in-1 digital smart lock designed for standard stile timber and aluminium doors in residential, office, and light commercial applications. Its larger lock body makes it particularly well-suited to retrofit installations, where previous locks may have left oversized cutouts or additional holes in the door face - the NX6 covers them cleanly.
The NX6 supports five access methods: PIN code, RFID card or tag, fingerprint recognition, Bluetooth eKey via the McGrath Locks App, and a mechanical key override. Local access and user management run over Bluetooth, with no internet connection required. A European 60/68 mortice lock with a manual privacy bolt is supplied as standard. The supplied mortice is a heavy-duty SS304 stainless steel three-point deadbolt body with an anti-friction dead latch, tested to 500,000 cycles. The NX6 is rated IP65 on the external lock housing, making it suitable for use in sheltered outdoor positions. The internal unit, which houses the battery compartment, is not IP rated and must not be exposed to water or moisture.

- Anti-peep PIN entry and incorrect attempt lockout: Randomised digit positioning and automatic lockout after repeated incorrect PIN attempts reduce PIN observation risk.

- Sheltered outdoor-facing entry doors: The IP65-rated exterior housing handles rain splash and humidity in sheltered positions. Not suitable for fully exposed outdoor installation without overhead protection.

Battery, Power and Backup Access
- Powered by 8 x AA alkaline batteries (not included). Terry's Locksmiths strongly recommends Duracell batteries.
- Typical battery life up to 18 months based on approximately 10 uses per day.
- Battery voltage: 6V. Low battery alert triggers below 4.6V, with an audible alert at the lock and a notification in the app.
- USB-C emergency power port on the exterior base - hold a USB-C power bank to the port to temporarily power the lock if batteries are flat.
- Mechanical key override via Euro cylinder ensures access in all power conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, for remote access. The NX6 operates locally over Bluetooth without any gateway - you can lock, unlock, set PINs, and manage users while within Bluetooth range. To lock, unlock, or monitor the door remotely (from anywhere, over the internet), the NX6 needs a separate McGrath Wi-Fi gateway (G2, G3, G4, or G5), sold separately. Yes. The gateway only handles remote access. If the gateway or Wi-Fi is unavailable, the lock continues to operate normally for all local access methods: PIN code, RFID, fingerprint, and Bluetooth via the app. Loss of connectivity does not lock anyone in or out. The NX6 is supplied with a European mortice lock that includes a manual privacy bolt (turnsnib) operated by a thumb turn on the inside. When engaged, the bolt prevents the latch from being retracted by any digital or electronic access method - it can only be released from inside. This provides the same function as a snib or privacy mode, but mechanically. Be aware that activating the privacy bolt will prevent all external digital credentials from unlocking the door until it is disengaged from inside. The NX6 is field-changeable for left- or right-hand operation. The change is made during installation following the supplied installation guide. Note that batteries must be inserted before the handing can be set - the lock uses the motor to reposition the latch direction. Follow the installation template carefully to ensure the mortice cutout is positioned correctly for your chosen handing before drilling.
Yes. The McGrath Locks App supports the TTRenting and TTHotel platforms, which allow time-limited PIN codes and eKeys to be issued and revoked. Issuing or revoking codes remotely (without visiting the property) requires a McGrath gateway to keep the lock connected; on-site code changes work over Bluetooth without one. Additional Information
Retrofit suitability: The NX6's 370 mm lock body is substantially larger than most residential digital locks. This is intentional - it covers the door prep and face plate marks left by standard mortice lock hardware, making it a practical choice on doors that have had previous locks replaced or upgraded. If your door has visible holes or cutouts from prior hardware, measure them before ordering to confirm the NX6 body width will cover them fully.
Door compatibility and stile width: The NX6 is designed for standard-stile timber and aluminium doors with a 60 mm backset. If your door has a narrow stile - common on some aluminium heritage-profile doors - confirm the stile width is sufficient to accept the mortice case and the lock body before ordering. Supplied mortice: The NX6 ships with the McGrath Euro 60/68 mortice lock - a heavy-duty SS304 stainless steel body with three-point deadbolts, an anti-friction dead latch, and a privacy turnsnib. It is designed for business or residential use and is tested to 500,000 cycles, meeting ANSI / BHMA standards (passed BHMA Level 2 and Level 3). Replacement mortices and matching override cylinders are available on the standalone Euro 60/68 mortice listing.
Security screen door clearance: The 72 mm outside handle projection means the NX6 protrudes further from the door face than a standard lever. If you have a security screen door fitted, check the clearance between the main door and the screen frame before ordering to confirm the lock handle will not foul the screen. While competent DIY installation is possible, Terry's recommends professional installation for optimal alignment of the mortice lock and strike plate. How to Make a Claim
- Contact Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd and its associated websites, trading names, and subsidiaries (the place of purchase) within the applicable warranty period.
- Supply your proof of original purchase - a receipt or tax invoice is required.
- Provide a clear description of the fault and your contact details.
- You may be asked to return the product for assessment before a remedy is determined.
- McGrath Locks will, at their discretion, repair the product, replace it with the same or an equivalent model, or provide a refund of the purchase price.
Exclusions
This warranty does not cover:
- Normal wear and tear
- Products that have been disassembled
- Damage caused by improper handling, incorrect installation, misuse, abuse, neglect, modification, or accident
- Installation by unlicensed persons (including non-licensed locksmiths or technicians)
- Products not used in accordance with the supplied instructions
- Cosmetic damage that does not affect functionality
- Labour or installation costs related to the removal or reinstallation of products
- Exposure to conditions outside normal environmental use
- Work completed before warranty approval
- Damage caused by battery leakage, battery failure, or force majeure
