McGrath Locks MLNX6 Digital Smart Lock - Euro 60/68 Mortice, 5-in-1 Access
The McGrath NX6 is a full-size 5-in-1 digital smart lock designed for standard stile timber and aluminium doors in residential, office, and commercial applications. Its larger lock body makes it particularly well-suited to retrofit installations, where previous locks may have left oversized cutouts or additional holes in the door face — the NX6 covers them cleanly.
The NX6 supports five access methods: PIN code, RFID card or tag, fingerprint recognition, Bluetooth eKey via the McGrath Locks App, and a mechanical key override. Local access and management are handled over Bluetooth with no internet connection required. Optional Wi-Fi remote access is available when the lock is paired with a compatible McGrath Locks gateway device — see our Smart Lock Gateway Comparison and McGrath G2 vs G3 vs G4 vs G5 Gateway Comparison for guidance.
A European 60/68 mortice lock with a manual privacy bolt is supplied as standard. The NX6 is rated IP65 on the external lock housing, making it suitable for use in sheltered outdoor positions. The internal unit, which houses the battery compartment, is not IP rated and must not be exposed to water or moisture.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays).
Wi-Fi Remote Access (Optional — Gateway Required)
The NX6 operates on Bluetooth as standard and does not include native Wi-Fi connectivity. Remote access — unlocking the door, issuing or revoking credentials, and viewing access activity from anywhere — requires a compatible McGrath Locks gateway to be installed separately. The gateway connects the lock to your Wi-Fi network via Bluetooth, bridging it to the McGrath Locks App. For a detailed comparison of gateway types and selection guidance, see our McGrath G2 vs G3 vs G4 vs G5 Gateway Comparison and Chapter 08 — Gateway Comparison.
The NX6W variant is identical in hardware but includes built-in Wi-Fi, connecting directly to your home network with no gateway required. View the McGrath NX6W Built-In Wi-Fi Smart Lock.
The McGrath Locks mobile app is a customised, McGrath-branded version of the TT Lock platform, tailored specifically for the McGrath Locks product range. The app is managed, supported, and distributed locally by McGrath Locks in Australia. Australian-based support staff handle warranty claims, app troubleshooting, and platform queries — you're not dealing with an overseas vendor. Cloud infrastructure is provided by TT Lock, a globally deployed IoT platform.
Key Features
- 5-in-1 access: PIN code, RFID card or tag, fingerprint recognition, Bluetooth eKey, and mechanical key override — five independent access methods in a single lock. See our guide to smart lock access methods for a full comparison.
- Bluetooth-first design: All local access and user management works over Bluetooth via the McGrath Locks App — no internet connection required for day-to-day operation.
- Optional Wi-Fi remote access: Add a compatible McGrath Locks gateway to enable remote lock management, credential issuing, and access audit trail from anywhere with an internet connection.
- Large lock body for retrofit: The full-size 370 mm body covers legacy door preparations and oversized cutouts from previous hardware, producing a clean finish on retrofit installs.
- European 60/68 mortice with privacy bolt: A European-style mortice lock with a manual privacy bolt is supplied as standard, providing both latching security and occupant privacy.
- IP65-rated external housing: The exterior lock assembly is rated IP65, suitable for sheltered outdoor positions. The internal unit is not IP rated.
- USB-C emergency power: If batteries run flat, a USB-C power bank held to the port on the exterior base provides temporary power to operate the lock.
- Field-changeable handing: Left- or right-hand operation can be set on site to suit the door swing.
- Anti-peep PIN entry and incorrect attempt lockout: Randomised digit positioning and automatic lockout after repeated incorrect PIN attempts reduce PIN observation risk.
- Passage mode: The lock can be set to passage mode for free egress during business hours or events.
- Unlimited Bluetooth eKeys: The app supports an unlimited number of digital eKeys, with time-limited or permanent access per user.
* Wi-Fi remote access requires a separately purchased McGrath Locks gateway.

Suitable Uses
- Residential front doors (timber and aluminium): Covers standard stile timber and aluminium doors from 38 mm to 110 mm thick — the most common door types in Australian homes.
- Retrofit installations: The 370 mm full-size body covers legacy cutouts from earlier hardware, making it a practical choice where a previous lock has left oversized holes in the door face.
- Bluetooth-only installations: Where router placement or power point availability near the door makes a gateway inconvenient, the NX6 operates fully on Bluetooth for all local access methods without any additional hardware.
- Home offices and small commercial spaces: Up to 250 PIN codes and 1,000 RFID credentials support multi-user environments without key management overhead.
- Properties where remote access is desired but budget-sensitive: The NX6 can be installed as a Bluetooth-only lock first and upgraded to remote access later by adding a gateway — no lock replacement required.
- Airbnb and short-stay rental properties: When paired with a gateway, the McGrath Locks App supports the TTRenting platform for automated guest access scheduling, time-limited codes, and remote management. For a practical walkthrough, see our guide to using TTLock for Airbnb in Australia, and Chapter 07 — Airbnb & Short-Stay Rentals.
- Sheltered outdoor-facing entry doors: The IP65-rated exterior housing handles rain splash and humidity in sheltered positions. Not suitable for fully exposed outdoor installation without overhead protection.
NX6 Series — Available Variants
Both variants use the same Euro 60/68 mortice, the same access methods, and the same McGrath Locks App. The only functional difference is how remote access is achieved.
Specifications
IP rating note: The IP65 rating applies to the external lock housing only. The internal unit, which houses the battery compartment and electronics, is not IP rated and must not be exposed to water or moisture. Install in a sheltered position where the internal unit is protected from rain ingress.

- Mechanical key override via Euro cylinder ensures access in all power conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a gateway to use the NX6?
No — the NX6 operates fully without a gateway for all local access methods: PIN code, RFID, fingerprint, and Bluetooth via the McGrath Locks App. A gateway is only needed if you want to lock, unlock, or manage the lock remotely via the app when you are away from the property. If remote access is required, see our McGrath G2 vs G3 vs G4 vs G5 Gateway Comparison and Chapter 08 — Gateway Comparison for guidance on choosing the right gateway.
What happens if the Wi-Fi or gateway loses its internet connection?
If the gateway loses its internet connection, remote access through the app is unavailable until the connection is restored. The lock itself continues to operate normally for all local access methods — PIN, RFID, fingerprint, and Bluetooth — regardless of internet status. Loss of internet does not lock anyone in or out. For a detailed explanation of connectivity behaviour, see why smart locks sometimes drop off Wi-Fi.
What is the privacy bolt and how does it work?
The NX6 is supplied with a European mortice lock that includes a manual privacy bolt operated by a thumb turn on the inside. When engaged, the bolt prevents the latch from being retracted by any digital or electronic access method — it can only be released from inside. This provides occupant privacy, but be aware that engaging it will prevent all external digital credentials from operating the door until it is manually disengaged from inside. For more on how privacy modes work on smart locks, read the perils of the internal snib — secure lock explained.
Can I add a gateway later if I start with Bluetooth only?
Yes. The NX6 can be installed and used as a Bluetooth-only lock and upgraded to remote access at any time by adding a compatible McGrath Locks gateway — no changes to the lock itself are required. The gateway is a separate device that plugs into power and connects to your Wi-Fi router, bridging the lock to the McGrath Locks App via Bluetooth. This makes the NX6 a practical choice where remote access budget is uncertain at installation time.
Can the NX6 be used for Airbnb or short-stay rental access management?
Yes, with a gateway. Once a gateway is connected, the McGrath Locks App supports the TTRenting and TTHotel platforms, which allow time-limited PIN codes and eKeys to be issued and revoked remotely. For a practical walkthrough of TTLock for short-stay use, see using TTLock for Airbnb in Australia and Chapter 07 — Airbnb & Short-Stay Rentals.
Additional Information
Retrofit suitability: The NX6's 370 mm lock body is substantially larger than most residential digital locks. This is intentional — it covers the door prep and face plate marks left by standard mortice lock hardware, making it a practical choice on doors that have had previous locks replaced or upgraded. If your door has visible holes or cutouts from prior hardware, measure them before ordering to confirm the NX6 body width will cover them fully.
Door compatibility and stile width: The NX6 is designed for standard-stile timber and aluminium doors with a 60 mm backset. If your door has a narrow stile — common on some aluminium heritage-profile doors — confirm the stile width is sufficient to accept the mortice case and lock body before ordering. See Chapter 02 — Measuring Your Door for guidance.
Security screen door clearance: The 72 mm outside handle projection means the NX6 protrudes further from the door face than a standard lever. If a security screen door is fitted, check the clearance between the main door and the screen frame before ordering to confirm the lock handle will not foul the screen. Our guide on checking clearance between door and security screen covers this in detail.
Installation: The NX6 includes a drill positioning template and installation guide. While competent DIY installation is possible, Terry's recommends professional installation for optimal alignment of the mortice lock and strike plate. Incorrect installation is the most common cause of locking faults on new digital locks — see 3 common DIY installation mistakes and easy fixes before you start.
NX6 vs NX6W — which to choose: If you are certain you want remote access and already have reliable Wi-Fi near the door, the NX6W (built-in Wi-Fi) is the simpler solution — no gateway hardware to install or power. If you are unsure whether remote access will be needed, or if the gateway can be positioned more conveniently than the door itself, the NX6 with a separate gateway gives more flexibility. Both use the same lock hardware and McGrath Locks App.
Brand and platform confidence: McGrath Locks are distributed in Australia through Terry's Locksmiths and supported by LSC (Locksmith Supply Company), one of the largest trade distributors in the country. For context on why this distribution chain matters for long-term parts and support availability, see our overview of smart lock brands in Australia and our post on why Terry's, LSC, and McGrath Locks give long-term confidence.
