McGrath Hamilton Smart Lock - Satin Nickel
The McGrath Hamilton Smart Lock in Satin Nickel is a trade-grade digital lock designed for Australian residential and commercial applications where fire compliance, accessibility, fingerprint access, and long-term reliability matter. It delivers five access methods in a single platform - fingerprint recognition, keypad PIN, RFID credential, Bluetooth eKey, and mechanical key override - and is supplied with a tubular latch suitable for fire-rated doorset configurations.
The Hamilton is one of the few smart locks available in Australia with confirmed fire compliance when installed on Firecore or E-Core doorsets in approved configurations. Its DDA-compliant lever design meets the requirements of AS 1428.1-2009, making it suitable for accessible door applications in residential, commercial, NDIS, and SDA environments.
The IP66-rated external housing provides resistance to dust and high-pressure water. The lock is managed via the McGrath Locks mobile app over Bluetooth, with optional remote access when paired with a compatible McGrath gateway — for a plain-English explanation of what that adds, see Chapter 14 - Bluetooth-only vs Gateway. A door sensor is included for optional door position monitoring within the app.
Same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and QLD public holidays)
Fire rated up to 2 hours when installed on Firecore or E-Core doorsets in approved configurations using the supplied McGrath tubular latch or Dormakaba MS2602 mortice lock. Fire compliance applies to the complete doorset, not the lock alone.
Lever design meets the requirements of AS 1428.1-2009 for accessible door hardware. Suitable for NDIS, SDA, and applications referencing the Disability (Access to Premises - Buildings) Standards 2010. See Chapter 09 - DDA, NDIS & Accessibility for full compliance guidance.

Battery, Power & Backup Access
- Powered by 4 x AA alkaline batteries (not included). Terry's Locksmiths strongly recommends Duracell above other battery brands.
- Typical battery life up to 18 months based on approximately 10 uses per day.
- Low battery alerts visible in the McGrath Locks App and audible at the lock.
- Standby power consumption less than 30 mA.
- USB-C emergency power port allows temporary operation via a power bank if batteries are depleted.
- Mechanical key override provides emergency access if electronic methods are unavailable.
- User access credentials are retained during battery replacement.
Wi-Fi Remote Access (Optional)
This smart lock does not include native Wi-Fi connectivity. Remote access and management features are available only when the lock is paired with a compatible McGrath Locks gateway. When a gateway is installed, users can remotely unlock the door, issue or revoke access credentials, and view access activity through the McGrath Locks App from anywhere with an internet connection.
To choose the right McGrath gateway for your lock and home network, see Chapter 14 - choosing the right gateway.
The gateway connects to your home 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. If your router merges its 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands under one name, this can interrupt the connection - see Chapter 08 - the Wi-Fi band-steering problem before installing. If a paired gateway repeatedly drops its connection, see our FAQ on smart locks dropping off Wi-Fi.
Not sure whether you need a gateway at all? See our guide to whether you actually need a gateway.
Fire Rating
- Fire rated up to 2 hours when installed on Firecore or E-Core doorsets.
- Fire performance applies only when installed with approved latch or mortice lock configurations.
- Supplied ATL6070 tubular latch and approved mortice locks have been assessed for use in fire-rated systems.
- Compatible mortice lock: Dormakaba MS2602.
- Fire compliance is system-based and limited by the Fire Resistance Level of the complete doorset.
For a full explanation of fire door core types and how smart locks are assessed against Australian fire standards, see Chapter 05 - Fire Door Smart Locks in the Buyer's Guide.
Looking for other fire-rated smart lock options?
Fire-rated smart locks must be selected carefully. Fire performance applies to the complete doorset, including the lock, latch or mortice, door leaf, and installation method. Other fire-rated, DDA-compliant smart locks in the McGrath range include:
- McGrath Stafford Smart Lock - raised buttons, non-biometric, DDA-compliant lever, fire rated
- McGrath Bardon Smart Lock - raised buttons with Braille, fire assessed, DDA-compliant lever (mortice lock not included)

Disability Act Compliance (DDA)
- Lever design meets the requirements of AS 1428.1-2009 for accessible door hardware.
- Designed to assist users with limited grip strength or dexterity.
- Suitable for applications requiring compliance with the Disability (Access to Premises - Buildings) Standards 2010.
- Lever compliance relates to handle design only and does not imply full building-level compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Hamilton require internet access to operate?
No. The lock operates locally via Bluetooth using the McGrath Locks App without any internet connection. Remote access, remote unlocking, and credential management from outside the property require an optional Wi-Fi gateway.
Is the Hamilton supplied with a mortice lock?
No. The lock is supplied with the ATL6070 adjustable 60-70 mm tubular latch. The Dormakaba MS2602 mortice lock is the confirmed approved alternative for fire door configurations and is specified separately.
Is the Hamilton suitable for fire-rated doors?
Yes, when installed on Firecore or E-Core doorsets using the approved ATL6070 tubular latch or Dormakaba MS2602 mortice lock. Fire compliance is system-based - the complete doorset must be compliant, not just the lock. See Chapter 05 - Fire Door Core Types for a full explanation.
What should I check before ordering to confirm this lock fits my door?
Confirm your door thickness (35-54 mm), backset (60-70 mm adjustable), and spindle size (8 mm). For step-by-step measurement guidance, see our guide to measuring your lock backset.
What happens if the batteries go flat?
A USB-C emergency power port on the exterior allows temporary operation from a power bank so the door can be unlocked and batteries replaced. A mechanical key override is also provided.
Additional Information
The Hamilton suits both fresh installations and retrofit scenarios where existing lock cut-outs are present. For fire door installations, the approved latch or mortice configuration must be used and the complete doorset must comply. Installation should be carried out by a qualified locksmith or installer. For common DIY preparation mistakes, see choosing the wrong hardware or backset.
Fingerprint capacity and recognition accuracy depend on correct enrolment and user technique. Enrol each finger twice for best results. Up to 100 fingerprints can be stored. In high-humidity or very wet conditions, fingerprint recognition may be slower - PIN or RFID access provides a reliable alternative in these environments. For enrolment tips and wet-finger guidance, see TTLock tips and tricks for fingerprint access.
Battery life varies with usage frequency and the access methods used. Fingerprint access uses slightly more power than PIN or RFID. Terry's Locksmiths recommends Duracell AA batteries. The lock provides audible and in-app low-battery alerts well before batteries are fully depleted.
The external housing carries an IP66 rating, providing resistance to dust ingress and high-pressure water jets. This makes the Hamilton suitable for exposed outdoor entry positions. For what salt air, UV and humidity mean for an outdoor lock in this climate, see Chapter 11 - Queensland-specific considerations.
Gateway placement affects Wi-Fi performance and should be within the recommended range of the lock. To choose and position the right McGrath gateway for your setup, see our comparison of the McGrath G2, G3, G4 and G5 gateways.
The McGrath Locks app runs on the TT Lock platform. For an overview of how the platform manages users, passcodes and gateways, and how it compares to other app ecosystems, see Chapter 15 - Smart Lock App Platforms.
For an independent overview of the McGrath Locks range, including gateway options, fire and DDA-certified products, and the brand's position in the Australian smart lock market, see Chapter 10 - Smart Lock Brand Profiles.
The McGrath Locks mobile app is a customised, McGrath-branded version of the TT Lock platform, tailored specifically for the McGrath Locks product range. The app is managed, supported, and distributed locally by McGrath Locks in Australia.
