McGrath KEYSAFE - Digital Bluetooth Smart Key Safe (IP65)
The McGrath KEYSAFE is a digital Bluetooth key safe designed to securely store a spare key or access card at the home, office or business. It is a self-contained smart key box - not a door lock - that lets you manage who can retrieve the stored key through the McGrath Locks app, with fingerprint, keypad PIN, RFID credential, Bluetooth eKey and mechanical key override all available on the one unit.
Access is configured and managed through the McGrath Locks app on the TTLock platform. Codes, cards and eKeys can be issued as permanent, timed, one-time or recurring credentials, so family, tradespeople, cleaners or short-stay guests can be given access without handing over a physical key. For an overview of how each credential type works, see Chapter 03 - Smart Lock Access Methods in the Buyer's Guide.
The KEYSAFE carries an IP65-rated external housing and a tempered glass screen for weather resistance. It fixes to a wall with the supplied screws and plugs, or hangs from a rail or handle using the supplied shackle. Adding an optional McGrath Wi-Fi gateway extends control beyond Bluetooth range for remote unlocking - for a plain-English explanation of what a gateway adds, see Chapter 14 - Bluetooth-only vs Gateway.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and QLD public holidays).

Battery, Power & Backup Access
- Powered by 4 x AAA alkaline batteries (not included). Terry's Locksmiths recommends good-quality alkaline batteries such as Duracell.
- Typical battery life up to 18 months based on approximately 10 uses per day.
- Low-battery alerts appear in the McGrath Locks app and sound at the unit.
- USB-C emergency power port allows temporary operation from a power bank if the batteries are depleted.
- Mechanical key override provides emergency access if electronic methods are unavailable - insert the supplied override key and turn.
- User credentials are retained during battery replacement.
Wi-Fi Remote Access (Optional)
The KEYSAFE does not include native Wi-Fi. Remote unlocking and remote management are available only when the unit is paired with a compatible McGrath Wi-Fi gateway. With a gateway installed you can unlock the KEYSAFE, issue or revoke credentials, and view access activity through the McGrath Locks app from anywhere with an internet connection.
To choose the right McGrath gateway for your setup, see Chapter 08 - Gateway Comparison and our comparison of the McGrath G3, G4 and G5 gateways.
The gateway connects to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. If your router merges its 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands under one name, this can interrupt the connection - see the Wi-Fi band-steering problem before installing. Not sure whether you need a gateway at all? See whether you actually need a gateway.
Weather Resistance (IP65)
The external housing carries an IP65 rating - protected against dust and low-pressure water jets from any direction - and uses a tempered glass screen. A protective cover shields the keypad for further weather protection, making the KEYSAFE suitable for exposed outdoor positions. For what salt air, UV and humidity mean for outdoor hardware in this climate, see Chapter 11 - Queensland-specific considerations.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. The KEYSAFE is a digital key box that securely stores a spare key or access card - it does not lock a door itself. A common use is to store the mechanical override key for a nearby smart lock, kept securely outside the door.
No. It operates locally over Bluetooth using the McGrath Locks app, with no internet connection required. Remote unlocking and remote credential management are available only when the unit is paired with an optional McGrath Wi-Fi gateway.
After installation and first power-up the KEYSAFE will accept any fingerprint to open it until you configure it in the McGrath Locks app. Once you set it up and enrol authorised users, unregistered fingerprints are rejected.
4 x AAA alkaline batteries (not included). Battery life is up to 18 months based on around 10 uses per day. Low-battery alerts appear in the app and sound at the unit. For operating tips, see TTLock tips and tricks.
A USB-C emergency power port lets you power the unit temporarily from a power bank so it can be opened and the batteries replaced. The supplied mechanical override key also opens the KEYSAFE without power.
Yes. Remove the KEYSAFE from your McGrath Locks app (delete it in settings) or factory reset it, then the new owner can add it to their own account. A factory reset restores the default master PIN and clears all previous users and settings.
Additional Information
Mount the KEYSAFE to a solid wall using the supplied screws and wall plugs, or hang it from a rail, gate or door handle using the supplied shackle. For brick, drill to a depth of about 40 mm with a masonry bit and fit the wall plugs; for timber, drill a pilot hole and drive the wood screws directly. Choose a height that is convenient but not obvious from the street.
Codes, cards, fobs, fingerprints and eKeys are all managed in the McGrath Locks app, which runs on the TTLock platform. PIN codes can be permanent, timed, one-time, custom or recurring, so you can hand out temporary access to guests or tradespeople and revoke it later. For a walkthrough of the platform, see the TTLock app user manual and TTLock tips and tricks.
Bluetooth is fine for opening the KEYSAFE in person. To unlock or manage it remotely you will need a McGrath Wi-Fi gateway - compare the options in our G3, G4 and G5 gateway comparison and Chapter 08 - Gateway Comparison.
If you specifically want smartphone control, this KEYSAFE and other Bluetooth key safes such as the ABUS Key Garage One (KG787BTC), Igloohome Keybox 3 and Master Lock 5441EC are worth comparing. If a simple mechanical combination is all you need, see the full Key Storage range. Our which platform is right for you guide can help you decide.
