ASSA ABLOY SMARTair Mobile Access Licence - Openow Smartphone Opening
The ASSA ABLOY SMARTair Mobile Access Licence - Openow Smartphone Opening (SNCCLICMOBILE) enables smartphone door access with SMARTair's Openow mobile credential platform. With Openow enabled, authorised users unlock compatible SMARTair doors by presenting their smartphone near the reader instead of a physical RFID card or key fob, and administrators issue, manage and revoke those phone keys alongside traditional cards.
Openow keys are virtual credentials that work over Bluetooth Low Energy (Product Overview); in the app, the user presses the padlock and holds the phone against the lock (Openow User Guide). Keys are sent and revoked from TS1000 or the Web Manager and arrive over the air in the free Openow app for iOS and Android (Product Overview, page 8), and a cancelled key vanishes from the user's app straight away (Information Guide).
It works on SMARTair devices that carry Openow - the Update-on-Card + Openow and Wireless Online + Openow devices listed under Compatible SMARTair Devices. Devices without Openow take an upgrade first (Product Overview, page 3).
Key Features
- SMARTair software licence enabling Openow mobile credentials.
- Allows doors to be unlocked using authorised smartphones.
- Uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication (Product Overview).
- Digital credential management through SMARTair software - TS1000 and the Web Manager (Product Overview).
- Mobile credentials can be issued or revoked remotely; a cancelled key vanishes from the user's app immediately (Information Guide).
- Every information exchange is protected by end-to-end encryption (Information Guide).
- One app holds keys for as many sites as the user needs (Openow User Guide).
- Works alongside RFID cards and tags.

Openow Smartphone App
Download the free Openow app and register; once your administrator sends you a virtual key, you open Openow-enabled SMARTair doors straight from your phone over Bluetooth. Openow is available for iOS and Android ![]()
(Product Overview).
Setting it up takes six steps: download Openow from the Apple App Store or Google Play, add your email address in the app, receive a verification code or link from openow@assaabloy.com, verify it, and your virtual key arrives, ready to use. The app holds as many keys from different facilities as you need (Openow User Guide).
What's Included
- SMARTair Openow mobile access software licence.
- Configuration documentation.
Suitable Uses
Sites with regular door traffic and a regular need to collect door history, where facility staff would rather send keys than hand out cards (Information Guide); remote sites and after-hours access, where keys can be issued without a return visit. Browse app-enabled smart locks.
Opening doors from anywhere: Openow opens at the door over Bluetooth, and remote opening belongs to the Wireless Online level (Product Overview, page 3). Users without a smartphone keep a card or fob, and devices without Openow need an upgrade first.
SMARTair System Tools and Licences
SMARTair splits set-up and management across a small family of tools and licences. Each one does a different job, on different management levels:
How Openow Mobile Access Works
Openow mobile credentials allow users to access doors using their smartphone instead of traditional access cards.
- Administrator issues the mobile credential through the SMARTair system.
- User receives the credential on their smartphone.
- Phone communicates with the SMARTair device via Bluetooth.
- Door unlocks when an authorised credential is detected.
Mobile credentials are encrypted and can be issued, modified or revoked digitally through the SMARTair management platform.
- Virtual keys, sent over the air. Administrators issue, change and revoke mobile keys from TS1000 or the SMARTair Web Manager; keys arrive in the user's Openow app - no card handover, no return visit (Product Overview).
- Bluetooth opening. Users open Openow-enabled SMARTair devices directly from the phone: press the padlock in the app, then hold the phone against the lock (Openow User Guide).
- PIN protection. The app can be protected with a personal PIN, requested every time the app opens, so a lost phone doesn't become a lost key (Openow User Guide).
- Simple onboarding. Users download Openow, register and validate their email address, and their virtual keys appear ready to use.
- Door history without updaters. Openow collects events from door devices and sends updates to the access plan through users' phones, so nobody has to visit an updater, and no hubs are needed (Product Overview; Information Guide).
SMARTair System Compatibility
Openow mobile access is supported by SMARTair devices that include Bluetooth communication capability, including:
- SMARTair escutcheon locks
- SMARTair electronic cylinders
- SMARTair wall readers
- SMARTair electronic padlocks
Mobile access operates alongside traditional RFID credentials, allowing systems to support both physical cards and digital smartphone credentials. An Openow site runs the TS1000 software licence and a portable programmer (or PC-TO-LOCK) (Product Overview, page 3), and TS1000 reaches users' phones through its cloud connection over HTTPS on port 443 (page 5).
Compatible SMARTair Devices
Openow is built into these SMARTair devices, so the licence brings their phone keys into use:
Needs an Openow upgrade first. These devices don't run Openow as listed. Standalone devices first move to Update-on-Card with a firmware change and an upgrade key, with no hardware changes. From Update-on-Card, ASSA ABLOY's route to Openow adds a Bluetooth module, a firmware upgrade and a new internal cover on the i-max; and a Bluetooth module and a firmware change on wall readers (Product Overview, page 3). Each device's page covers its own route.

Frequently Asked Questions
The free Openow app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, an email address to register with, and mobile data or Wi-Fi so keys can arrive (Product Overview). The verification code or link comes from openow@assaabloy.com (Openow User Guide).
Openow opens a door at the door: the phone talks to the lock over Bluetooth. Remote opening is a Wireless Online feature (Product Overview, page 3), done from the Web Manager (page 6) or with the separate SMARTair Remote App, which opens only wireless doors (page 8).
Yes. Mobile access runs alongside RFID credentials, and Openow-enabled devices still read the site's cards. Cards and fobs are written with the SMARTair USB encoder.
Revoke the key from TS1000 or the Web Manager and it vanishes from the user's app immediately (Information Guide). A PIN on the app, asked for every time it opens, also stops a lost phone becoming a lost key (Openow User Guide).
Green means the door opened; orange means the phone couldn't connect to the door, so try again; red means no access - no rights have been granted, the door is blocked or it's outside the user's time schedule (Openow User Guide, February 2019, so screens may differ from today's app).
Additional Information
- Lead time. This licence is a special order - the lead time is shown with the price.
- Check each door first. Openow keys only open devices that carry Openow; the others need an upgrade (Product Overview). The table under Compatible SMARTair Devices shows which is which.
- How keys reach phones. TS1000 keeps the site database on your own server (Product Overview) and reaches users' phones through its cloud connection over HTTPS on port 443 (page 5). For where access platforms keep data, see the ASSA ABLOY advantage.
- The SMARTair Remote App is separate. Alongside Openow, SMARTair has a remote-opening app that opens doors wherever the user is (Product Overview), and only the wireless doors chosen for that user (set-up annex). Its 2017 TS1000 set-up annex warns that sending app access while valid cards or fobs exist cancels those cards unless copies are activated first (page 5).
- Licensing and activation. This is a SMARTair software / mobile-access licence supplied and supported in Australia by Terry's; we manage any licensing or activation queries. Warranty terms for the SMARTair hardware it runs on are in the ASSA ABLOY warranty below.
Warranty
ASSA ABLOY branded products purchased new in Australia from authorised resellers are covered against defects in materials and workmanship for:
- Mechanical components: 10 years
- Electrical and electronic components: 5 years (excluding batteries)
- Cylinders and keys: 3 years
