Yale Unity Slim Retrofit Scar Plate Kit - 42mm and 58mm - Black
The Yale Unity Slim Retrofit Scar Plate Kit covers the marks, holes and paint shadows left behind by whatever hardware was on the door before a Yale Unity Slim Smart Lock went on. It is a three-piece kit, supplied in Black, and it is chosen by width to suit the door stile.
Each kit contains an external scar plate, an internal scar plate and a gasket. The plates sit between the door face and the Unity Slim escutcheons, so the escutcheon fixes through them and the plate does the covering. The gasket sits behind, giving a compressible layer against the door face. All three parts share the Unity Slim hole pattern, so nothing extra needs drilling.
Two widths are available and the choice is driven by the door, not by taste. The 42mm kit suits narrower stiles where the previous hardware left a tighter footprint; the 58mm kit covers a wider area for doors that carried a broader longplate, escutcheon or entrance set. Both are 300mm tall, so the difference between them is width alone. Select the size at checkout.
Usually ships in 3 business days.
Key Features
- Covers previous hardware marks on both faces. External and internal plates are supplied together, so the door looks finished from inside and out rather than only from the street.
- Two widths, one height. 42mm and 58mm plates, both 300mm tall, so the decision is simply how wide an area needs covering.
- Gasket included. A 1.6mm gasket is supplied with both kits, giving a compressible layer between the plate stack and the door face.
- Matches the Unity Slim hole pattern. Fixing holes and apertures line up with the lock, so the kit adds no extra door preparation.
- Thin 0.9mm plates. Both scar plates are 0.9mm thick, so the escutcheon still sits close to the door rather than standing proud.
- Radiused corners. A 6mm corner radius on both plates avoids the sharp square corner that catches on hands and cloths.
- Purpose-made for the Unity Slim. Part of Yale's published Unity Slim trade pack accessory range rather than a generic cover plate cut to fit.
- Black finish on every part. Plates and gasket are all supplied in Black.
What's in the Box
- External scar plate, Black
- Internal scar plate, Black
- Gasket, Black
No lock, no fixing screws and no jamb hardware are supplied with this kit. Fixings are covered by the Unity Slim Screw Pack. If the frame side also needs attention, see the Stainless Steel Plate Strike Assembly, the Strike Packer and the Heavy Duty Magnet Housing Assembly.
Suitable Uses
- Unity Slim retrofits over older hardware where the outgoing lock left a larger footprint than the slim escutcheon covers.
- Doors with visible screw holes, worn paint or a shadow line from a longplate, entrance set or previous digital lock.
- Aluminium and timber hinged doors within the Unity Slim's own published fitting range.
- Rental, strata and property-management upgrades where making good the door face matters as much as the lock going on.
- Installer and locksmith van stock alongside the screw pack and strike packers, so a Unity Slim job can be finished in one visit.
This kit is made for the Yale Unity Slim. It is not a universal scar plate and its hole pattern will not line up with the Yale Unity Entrance, the Yale Unity Security Screen Door lock or another brand's lock. It carries no fire rating and adds no security function; it is a cosmetic and sealing part.

Unity Slim Trade Pack Accessories - Item Codes
Yale publishes the Unity Slim spares and accessories as a trade pack range. The full published list is below, with the parts stocked as their own listing linked through.
Fitting and Compatibility
- Measure the damage before choosing a size. Hold a rule across the widest mark on the door face. If 42mm covers it, take the 42mm kit; a wider footprint needs the 58mm.
- The plates go on before the escutcheons. The escutcheon fixings pass through the plate, so the plate is trapped rather than separately screwed.
- The gasket sits behind its plate, against the door face. Check it is seated flat before the escutcheon is drawn up.
- Make good the door face first. A scar plate covers marks; it will not flatten a raised burr or a proud plug, and anything standing above the surface will telegraph through a 0.9mm plate.
- Fit both plates even if only one face looks marked. The pair is supplied together and a single-sided fit reads as unfinished from the other side.
- Do not over-tighten. The plates are thin sheet, and excessive fixing torque will dimple them around the fixing holes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Measure the widest mark on the door face, not the lock. If the damage, holes or paint shadow sit within 42mm, the 42mm kit is enough and looks neater. If the outgoing hardware was a longplate or a wide entrance set, take the 58mm. Both plates are 300mm tall, so height is not part of the decision. Guidance on measuring a door for hardware is in Chapter 02 - Measuring Your Door.
Yes. Each kit contains an external scar plate, an internal scar plate and a gasket. You do not need to buy two kits to finish both faces of the door.
It sits between the plate stack and the door face as a compressible layer, taking up small surface irregularities so the escutcheon draws down evenly. The same gasket is supplied in both kit sizes, at 298mm by 40mm by 1.6mm.
Only holes falling inside the plate outline are covered, and the plate is 300mm tall by 42mm or 58mm wide. A previous lock with fixings outside that footprint will still show. Check the mark against the drawings above before ordering, and see our note on why scar plate size matters.
No. This kit carries no fire rating and Yale publishes no fire test data for it. Fitting an unrated plate to a fire door can compromise the door's certification. If you are working on a fire door, see fire-door scar plate compliance and note that the Unity Slim itself is not a fire-rated lock.
Additional Information
- Decide the plate size before the lock goes on, not after. Once the Unity Slim is fitted, adding a scar plate means taking the escutcheons back off, because the plate goes underneath. Ordering the kit with the lock saves a second strip-down.
- A scar plate is cosmetic, not structural. It covers marks and gives a clean edge; it does not add security, does not reinforce a weakened door face and does not carry a fire rating. Judge it on appearance and fit.
- Think about the whole retrofit list. A Unity Slim going into an existing door usually needs jamb-side parts as well: the strike packer for gap correction, the magnet housing where the door position sensor needs its magnet relocated, and the screw pack.
- Aluminium and narrow-stile doors are unforgiving. There is little margin for a mis-drilled hole and a scar plate can only hide so much. If the door is aluminium, a survey before drilling is usually cheaper than a plate afterwards. See Chapter 12 on when DIY is appropriate.
- Owning the Unity Slim already? The full setup, master code and factory reset sequence is covered in our Yale Unity Slim troubleshooting and reset guide, including what to check when a door does not fit or close cleanly.

Unity Slim Scar Plate Kit - Sizing, Fitting and Buyer's Guide
Everything below is specific to the Yale Unity Slim retrofit scar plate kit. For the wider subject, see our guide to scar plates for smart locks, and for the lock itself the Yale Unity Slim product page.
Choosing a size
Width, and nothing else that Yale publishes. Both external plates are 300mm tall and 0.9mm thick with a 6mm corner radius, and both carry the same hole and aperture schedule. The 58mm blank is simply 16mm wider, giving roughly 8mm more coverage on each side of the escutcheon.
Close the door and look at it square on in good light. Mark the leftmost and rightmost edge of anything you want hidden - screw holes, plugs, unpainted shadow, a rebate line from an old longplate. Measure between those two marks. Add a couple of millimetres for tolerance, then pick the smallest kit that exceeds it. Do the same vertically against the 300mm plate height.
No. An oversized plate on a narrow stile looks like a patch rather than a finish, and on an aluminium door it can crowd the glazing bead or the stile edge. Cover what needs covering and no more. If the marks exceed the 58mm plate, a scar plate is not the answer and the door face needs making good properly.
Fitting the kit
Door face first, then the gasket, then the scar plate, then the Unity Slim escutcheon on top. The escutcheon fixings pass through the plate and gasket, which is what holds the stack together - there are no separate screws for the plate itself. Repeat on the other face with the internal plate.
Yes, at least lightly. Knock back any raised burr, plug and sand proud filler flush, and clear loose paint. A 0.9mm plate follows the surface it sits on, so anything standing above the door face will show as a bump through the plate and will stop the escutcheon pulling down evenly.
No. The plate goes underneath the escutcheon, so the escutcheons have to come off and go back on. This is the single best argument for ordering the kit at the same time as the lock rather than deciding afterwards.
Almost always over-tightening. These are thin sheet plates and the fixing torque that suits a solid escutcheon will pull a visible dimple into 0.9mm material. Draw the escutcheon down until it is firm and even, then stop.
What this kit does and does not do
No. It is a cover plate. It does not reinforce the door face, does not resist attack and does not change the lock's own security grade. The Unity Slim's security performance is a property of the lock and its multipoint hardware, described on the Unity Slim specifications.
It is a sealing and levelling layer between the plate stack and the door face, not a weather seal for the lock. Yale publishes no IP rating for this kit, and the Unity Slim's own IP55 figure is scoped to the lock's external module. Treat the kit as neutral on weather performance. How ratings are read in Australia is covered in Chapter 11.
No. The hole and aperture pattern is cut for the Unity Slim escutcheon. The Unity Entrance and the Unity Security Screen Door lock use different hardware, and a scar plate cut for one lock will not line up with another. Brand-by-brand scar plate guidance is in our scar plate brand guide.

What's in the Box - Unity Slim Retrofit Scar Plate Kit
Three parts are supplied in every kit, in both the 42mm and the 58mm size, all in Black.
The escutcheon fixings hold the plate stack in place, so no separate screws come with this kit. Replacement fixings are available in the Unity Slim Screw Pack.
Yale Unity Slim Retrofit Scar Plate Kit - Dimensions
Manufacturer drawings for both kit sizes. Yale supplied a dimensioned drawing for the 42mm external plate, the 58mm external plate, the 58mm internal plate and the gasket. No dimensioned drawing was supplied for the 42mm internal plate, so no figure is stated for it here.
Each sheet shows a face view with the hole schedule and a thin edge view giving the material thickness. The gasket is deliberately smaller than the plates in both height and width, so it stays hidden behind them. Every figure quoted on this page is printed on one of these drawings; nothing has been scaled off or estimated.
