Yale Unity Slim Strike Packer - 2mm and 3mm - Black
The Yale Unity Slim Strike Packer (part number YURSSL-PACK) is a moulded plastic shim that sits directly beneath the strike and dust box in the door frame. Its job is to close the gap between the lock body's tongue and bolts and the jamb, by packing the strike assembly outward toward the door.
It exists because frames are not perfect. A jamb that has been rebated a touch deep, a frame that has moved, or a retrofit where the existing mortice is slightly too generous will all leave the bolts reaching further than they should. Rather than re-routing the frame or forcing the door against its seal, a packer brings the strike out to meet the lock.
Two thicknesses are supplied on this listing. The 2mm packer handles a small gap and is the more common of the two; the 3mm packer covers a deeper one. Both share the same profile as the Unity Slim strike plate assembly, with matching apertures and fixing holes, so nothing extra needs cutting. Select the thickness at checkout.

A packer can only bring the strike outward, toward the door. It cannot recess a strike that is already sitting proud of the jamb face - that needs the mortice cut deeper. It is also a Unity Slim part: the profile is cut for the Unity Slim strike and will not suit the Yale Unity Entrance, the Yale Unity Security Screen Door lock or another brand's hardware. It adds no security function of its own.

Fitting and Compatibility
- Measure the gap before choosing a thickness. With the door closed and locked, check how far the bolts sit into the strike. If they are reaching about 2mm too far, take the 2mm; about 3mm, take the 3mm. Do not stack packers to make up an odd figure.
- The packer goes in first. Order of assembly into the mortice is packer, then dust box, then strike plate, then fixings. The packer is the deepest item in the stack.
- Check the fixings still reach. Adding 2mm or 3mm behind the strike means the screws have that much less thread in the frame. If they feel short, replace them rather than accept a partial bite.
- Test both bolt positions from a normal close. The Unity Slim throws at two points, so confirm both seat cleanly, not just the one at handle height.
- Confirm the door position sensor still reads. Moving the strike outward also moves the magnet in the strike assembly closer to the lock, which is usually helpful, but it is worth verifying before you finish.
- A packer will not fix a proud strike. It can only move the strike toward the door. A strike standing above the jamb face needs the mortice cut deeper instead.

Frequently Asked Questions
It shims the strike assembly outward, toward the door, closing the gap between the lock's tongue and bolts and the jamb. It sits under the strike and dust box in the mortice, so once fitted you cannot see it. It is the cheap, reversible fix for a mortice cut a fraction too deep.
Measure the gap with the door closed and locked before ordering. The 2mm suits a small over-reach and is the more common choice; the 3mm covers a deeper one. If you are between the two, take the smaller first - a packer that is too thick will stop the door closing properly, which is a worse problem than the one you started with.
We would not recommend it. Two packers double the number of interfaces the fixings have to clamp through, and the screws are then reaching that much less thread into the frame. A gap that needs more than 3mm is telling you something about the frame that a shim will not solve - get the door and jamb looked at instead.
No, and this is the most common misunderstanding about the part. A packer only moves the strike outward, toward the door. A strike already standing above the jamb face needs the mortice cut deeper. Packers correct too much depth, never too little.
Q60670 on the 2mm and Q60671 on the 3mm. It is a moulded identification mark, not an ordering code, and it is genuinely useful: it lets you identify a packer that is already fitted in a frame without pulling the strike off and measuring it. Order using the YURSSL-PACK part numbers.
Additional Information
- Carry both thicknesses on the van. The gap is not knowable until the door is hung and the lock is in, so an installer who holds a 2mm and a 3mm can finish the job on the day. This is the cheapest part in the Unity Slim range and the one most likely to save a return visit.
- A loose-feeling locked door is usually a depth problem, not a lock problem. If the door can be rattled when locked, the bolts are sitting in the strike with room to move. That is what this part corrects, and it is worth ruling out before anyone starts looking at the lock body.
- Adding a packer shortens the effective screw grip. Two or three millimetres does not sound like much, but on a short fixing into an aluminium jamb it can be the difference between a solid bite and a stripped hole. Check the fixings after packing, and use the screw pack if they need replacing.
- Order the jamb side as a set on a retrofit. A Unity Slim going into an existing frame often needs the strike assembly and a packer together, plus the retrofit scar plate kit for the door face. Deciding the list before the van leaves saves a second trip.

What a packer does
Because the mortice in the jamb is a cut, and cuts vary. On a retrofit the existing mortice was made for different hardware and is often deeper than the Unity Slim strike needs. On new work a router can wander, or the frame can move after installation. In every case the result is the same: the bolts reach further into the jamb than they should, and the door has play when locked. A packer restores the intended depth without touching the frame.
No, and the two are often confused because both are flat and both are described as packing something out. The retrofit scar plate kit goes on the DOOR FACE, under the escutcheons, and is cosmetic - it hides marks left by previous hardware. This packer goes in the JAMB, under the strike, and is functional - it changes how deep the bolts sit. Different side of the opening, different job.
Three reasons. It will not corrode where it is sandwiched against an aluminium jamb, which is exactly the kind of buried interface that causes trouble years later on a coastal door. It is non-conductive, so no dissimilar-metal contact. And it is slightly compliant, so it takes up minor irregularities in the mortice floor rather than rocking on a high spot the way a rigid steel shim would.
Choosing a thickness
Close and lock the door, then check the play. If the door can be pushed and pulled with the bolts thrown, that movement is roughly the gap you need to remove. Measuring the strike recess depth against the strike plate thickness gives you the same answer more precisely. Round down rather than up.
The strike stands proud of its recess, the door stops closing cleanly against it, and you have converted a minor play problem into a door that will not shut. This is why the advice is always to take the smaller packer first and test. Removing a packer is a two-minute job; recutting a mortice is not.
Read the moulded code on its face. Q60670 is the 2mm, Q60671 is the 3mm. That saves pulling the strike apart to measure a 1mm difference by eye, which is the reason Yale moulds the code in the first place.
Fitting
Packer into the mortice first, sitting flat on the floor of the recess. Then the dust box. Then the strike plate. Then the fixings through the lot. The packer is the deepest item in the stack, which is why it has to be decided before anything is screwed down.
Possibly. Every millimetre of packer is a millimetre of thread the fixing no longer has in the frame. On timber this rarely matters; on a thin aluminium jamb it can. Check the fixings feel solid rather than merely tight, and replace them from the screw pack if they do not.
It moves the magnet in the strike assembly slightly closer to the lock, which usually helps rather than hinders. Verify the lock reports a closed door before you finish, because a change at the jamb is exactly the kind of thing that gets forgotten and then reported as an unrelated fault a week later. Yale Unity Slim Strike Packer - Dimensions
Manufacturer drawings for both thicknesses. Yale dimensions the thickness only on each sheet. The outline, the two apertures, the round hole and the fixing holes follow the Unity Slim strike plate profile and are not separately dimensioned, so no figure is stated for them here.
Each sheet shows the mounting face with a thin edge view beside it, and the edge view is where the thickness is called out. That is deliberate: on a packer, thickness is the specification and everything else simply has to match the strike it sits under. The two apertures line up with the lock's two bolt positions and the round hole clears the strike's own central opening.

- Return the product securely packed to protect it in transit, together with your proof of purchase and your name, address, email and phone number.
- ASSA ABLOY assesses the claim. Where the warranty applies, they will (at their option) repair the product, replace it with the same or closest equivalent Yale product, or refund the price you paid.
Claims made directly to ASSA ABLOY require a Case Number from their Customer Service Department before goods are returned - products sent back without a Case Number may not be accepted. Costs of returning a product are the customer's responsibility.

Important Notes
Batteries are consumable and are not covered. Cosmetic finishes and appearance are excluded. Stainless steel resists staining but is not stain-proof - tea staining is a natural process and is not covered where cleaning and maintenance guidelines have not been followed.
Damage from salt spray, coastal air, high humidity and other corrosives is excluded. In Gold Coast and coastal locations, choose a suitable finish and follow the care and maintenance guidance to protect your hardware and preserve your cover.
