Vault Prime Lever Smart Lock

The Vault Prime is a lever-handle smart lock for everyday residential and light commercial entry doors. It opens by fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card or fob, Bluetooth from the Vault Smart Locks app, or a mechanical override key, giving you five ways in without changing the familiar lever-handle look of the door.

Prime fits both tubular-latch (single tongue) and mortice (double tongue) door preparations, and the lever handing is field-reversible for left or right-opening doors. It is a Bluetooth-first lock: remote access, remote passcodes and unlock history become available when you add the optional Vault G5 Gateway.

If you want the same Vault app and access methods with 3D facial recognition, look at the Vault Guardian lever lock; for a lever lock purpose-built around 5050 mortice and tubular-latch doors, see the Vault Triton.

Key Features

  • Five ways in: fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card or fob, Bluetooth app unlock, and mechanical override key.
  • Lever-handle format that keeps the everyday look and operation of a standard entry handle.
  • Field-reversible handing for left or right-opening doors, set during installation without removing the handle.
  • Fits both tubular-latch (single tongue) and mortice (double tongue) door preparations.
  • Bluetooth-first control from the Vault Smart Locks app, with optional Wi-Fi remote access via the Vault G5 Gateway.
  • Zinc alloy construction with an IP55 weather-rated external module for covered outdoor exposure.
  • Low-battery warning (flashing red indicator) so you can change batteries before lockout.

What's in the Box

  • Vault Prime front (external) panel with keypad and fingerprint reader
  • Vault Prime rear (internal) panel with battery compartment
  • Lock body and square spindle
  • Strike plate and door buckle box
  • Mechanical override keys
  • RFID card
  • Fixing screws and installation fittings
  • User manual

Batteries and the optional Vault G5 Gateway are not included. Exact box contents may vary; confirm on delivery.

Battery, Power and Backup Access

The Prime runs on 4 x AAA alkaline batteries (not included), installed in the internal panel behind the battery cover. A flashing red indicator warns when the batteries are low so you can replace them before the lock stops responding.

Backup key
Mechanical key override
Every Prime includes a mechanical override key so you can still get in if the batteries are fully drained. Keep a spare key off-site rather than inside the door it opens. More on this in where the keyhole is and what to do when the battery dies.

Suitable Uses

  • Front and internal entry doors in homes, units and townhouses
  • Light commercial doors such as offices, studios and consulting rooms
  • Short-stay and rental properties where fingerprint, PIN and temporary access help manage guests and cleaners
  • Timber and aluminium hinged doors prepared for a tubular latch or a mortice
  • Covered outdoor entries where the external module gets rain protection rather than full direct exposure
Weather rating
Weather exposure (IP55, external module)
The external (outside) module is IP55 weather rated for everyday covered outdoor exposure. The internal module, which houses the battery compartment and electronics, is for interior use only and is not weather rated. For heavy coastal exposure, review our notes on coastal environments and see the IP ratings guide.

Latch and Mortice Options

Parts and accessories
Confirm your lock body before ordering
The Prime works with both a tubular latch (single tongue) and a mortice (double tongue) lock body, depending on your door preparation. Both are primary options, not upgrades. Confirm your door's existing lock body type before ordering, and check your door's backset and door thickness first.
Example: Hinged Door Mortice
Vault hinged swinging mortice, 85mm lock centres, stainless steel
Standard mortice format used on hinged and swinging doors. See the mortice explainer.
View Hinged Door Mortice Options
Example: Sliding Door Mortice
Vault sliding hook mortice for sliding doors, stainless steel
Sliding doors use a hook bolt mortice for correct operation.
View Sliding Door Mortice Options
Example: Tubular Latch
Tubular latch shown in vertical orientation, a configuration option for Vault Prime
A tubular latch uses a spring bolt rather than a deadbolt and is common on internal and bedroom doors.
Also available: the Vault 6068 Mortice (60mm backset, 68mm lock centres) and the Vault Rebate Kit for double-door and rebated installations. Getting the lock body right is one of the common pre-purchase mistakes to avoid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Prime have facial recognition?
No. The Prime unlocks by fingerprint, PIN, RFID card or fob, Bluetooth and mechanical key. For 3D facial recognition on a lever lock, see the Vault Guardian.
Can I unlock the Prime when I am away from home?
Yes, with the optional Vault G5 Gateway. Without the gateway the app controls the lock over Bluetooth when you are within range. See Wi-Fi and remote access.
Will it fit my door?
The Prime suits doors prepared for a tubular latch or a mortice. Check your backset and door thickness before ordering.
What happens if the batteries go flat?
A flashing red indicator warns you before that happens. If the batteries do drain completely, use the supplied mechanical override key. See what to do when the battery dies.
Can I fit it outside?
The external module is IP55 weather rated for covered outdoor exposure. The internal module is interior-only. For harsh, salt-laden positions review our notes on coastal environments.

Additional Information

Get the handing and door prep right
Prime handing is field-reversible, but set it correctly at install for the way your door opens. Common fitting errors are covered in backset mistakes and spindle mistakes. On the Gold Coast we also offer a measure and install service.
Where Prime sits in the Vault range
Prime is the straightforward lever smart lock in the range. Step up to face recognition with the Guardian, choose a 5050 mortice / tubular focus with the Triton, or a lever-or-knob option with the Neo. See the full Vault range guide and the Vault brand profile.
Cards, PINs and shared access
Prime holds up to 100 fingerprints, 150 PIN codes and 100 RFID cards or fobs. PIN codes can be permanent, timed or one-time through the app, which suits guests, cleaners and tradespeople. Learn more about RFID credentials and PIN codes.

Important Notes

IP ratings and weather resistance
Where a Vault product carries an Ingress Protection (IP) rating, that rating is stated on the individual product listing, packaging or technical documentation. Unless stated otherwise in writing, the IP rating applies only to the external-facing side of the lock - not to the internal assembly, handle, battery compartment, electronics, cables or connectors. The internal side must be installed in a dry, sheltered position. An IP rating describes water resistance, not waterproofing: the lock must not be submerged, pressure washed, or exposed beyond its stated rating, and all seals, gaskets and covers must be correctly fitted and undamaged.
Warranty assessment fee
Vault's manufacturer policy applies a warranty assessment holding fee, which is refundable if the fault is found to be covered under warranty. If a product is assessed as outside warranty or damaged by an excluded cause, a discounted replacement may be offered. We will confirm any applicable fees and options with you before any assessment proceeds.
Your Rights Under Australian Consumer Law
This warranty is provided in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the ACL. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
