The KG777AD is a stainless steel bracket that goes on in place of the shackle on a padlock-style ABUS Key Garage, so the box hangs from the edge of a car door window instead of a gate, a fence or a railing. ABUS calls it the car window adaptor. It is an accessory and nothing more - there is no key safe in the box.

It exists for one job: the vehicle handover. A car dropped at a workshop, a ute passing between crews, a pool or hire vehicle changing hands, a car left in an airport car park for someone else to collect. The keys stay with the car, and whoever needs them next opens the box on a combination instead of chasing a physical handover. The bracket fits the two padlock-style Key Garages we stock - the push-button KG777C and the dial KG797C.

ABUS documents this one lightly, and we would rather say so than pad the page. The range brochure gives the adaptor a page of its own - stainless steel, replaces the KG777 shackle, easy to fit and remove - and ABUS lists the car window adaptor bracket against both the 797 and the 777 in the 2023 range catalogue. There is no separate datasheet, no published dimension, no weight and no fitting drawing, so you will not find one quoted here. Accessory - This Is a Bracket, Not a Key Safe
What you get is the adaptor on its own. There is no Key Garage in the box, no combination mechanism, no key drawer, no shackle and no fixings. The bracket does nothing by itself - it only works once it is fitted to a padlock-style Key Garage you already own or buy alongside it: the push-button ABUS Key Garage KG777C or the dial ABUS Key Garage KG797C. • Not the right answer if you want a vehicle key safe out of the box. No. This listing is the adaptor bracket on its own. You need a padlock-style Key Garage as well - the KG777C or the KG797C - and that is where the keys, the code and the lock actually live.

Which Key Garages does it fit?
The padlock-style ones ABUS names it for: the push-button KG777C and the dial KG797C. It replaces the shackle those boxes hang from, so a wall-mounted Key Garage - which has no shackle - is not a candidate.

Will it fit my car?
ABUS describes it as suiting any motor vehicle door window, and it hangs on the glass rather than fixing to the body, so nothing is drilled and nothing is permanently changed. Vehicles do vary though - frameless windows, deep seals and heavily curved glass are all worth a look before you order. If yours is unusual, talk to us first.

Is it safe to leave the car key in a box attached to the car?
Be clear-eyed about it. A combination box on a window is convenient and it is visible, and a thief who gets into it is standing next to the vehicle it opens. Treat this as an access-sharing tool for controlled situations - a workshop yard, a depot, a car park you have chosen - not as a security upgrade. Change the combination regularly, and change it whenever someone who knew it no longer needs it. There is also the modern problem: a keyless-entry fob sitting in a box on the car is exactly the scenario behind the relay attack risk. The answer is to put the fob in an RFID signal-blocking wallet before it goes in the box - a steel box on its own does not reliably stop the signal being picked up and relayed. Can I put the standard shackle back on afterwards?
Yes - the bracket goes on in place of the shackle, and ABUS describes it as easy to fit and remove, so the swap runs both ways. Keep the shackle somewhere you will find it: you will want it the day the box goes back on a gate or a railing rather than a car.

Additional Information

Access convenience, not theft resistance. This bracket makes a key safe easier to share; it does not make it harder to attack. Judge the site, not the hardware - a depot or a workshop yard is a different proposition from a street or an unattended car park, and the same box is a sensible choice in one and a poor one in the other. A magnetic hider such as the FK Surf magnetic key hider is cheaper again and less secure again; if you go that way, go there knowingly.

Choosing between the KG777C and the KG797C. The bracket does not push you either way - both take it. The difference is the mechanism: the KG777C uses a push-button combination, which most people find quicker with cold or wet hands, and the KG797C uses four rotating dials, which scramble in a second and give nothing away to a shoulder-surfer. Pick the one whoever uses it will actually use properly.

The LED boxes: we are not claiming them. ABUS names the 777 and the 797 for this bracket and stops there. The lit-dial KG797LEDC is the same padlock-style body with illuminated dials, so it may well take the adaptor, but ABUS does not say so either way and we are not going to say it for them. If that is the box you own, check with us before ordering.

The other way to hang the same box. There are two accessories for the padlock-style Key Garages and they solve opposite problems. This one puts the box on a vehicle. The KGCABLEC flexible cable shackle does the reverse - it reaches around fence rails, gate frames and door handles that a rigid shackle will not go round. Note that the cable extends reach; it does not make the box harder to attack. Both sit alongside the rest of the key storage range.
