Auslock Ultra Slim S31B — Smart Lock for Sliding Doors

The Auslock Ultra Slim S31B is the only model in the Auslock range built from SS304 stainless steel and rated to IP66 — making it the right choice for sliding doors where weather exposure, condensation, or coastal salt-air would degrade an aluminium panel over time. With a 280 mm × 38 mm panel, it is the slimmest profile in the range and fits narrow aluminium door stiles that cannot accommodate wider escutcheons. Confirm your longplate mortice door preparation before ordering.

The S31B provides five access methods — fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card, Bluetooth app, and mechanical key — managed via the Auslock App. Remote access, voice control, and real-time notifications are available via the optional G2 or G3 Gateway. The door type compatibility matrix covers which smart locks suit which door types. Available in Silver, Black, Gold, Grey, and White. For the hinged door version, see the S31B Hinged Door.

Key Features

  • SS304 stainless steel construction — every external component: body panels, battery cover, and cylinder cover plate. The only stainless steel model in the Auslock range; all others use aluminium or zinc alloy
  • IP66 rated — dust-tight and protected against powerful water jets; the only Auslock model rated for direct outdoor exposure. See corrosion resistance grades
  • Ultra-slim 38 mm panel — fits narrow aluminium door stiles from ~38 mm wide
  • Hook mortice for sliding doors — rotating hook engages a frame catch when the sliding door closes; provides positive latching that resists forced entry and lever-over attacks that a standard latch bolt cannot match on a sliding door
  • Fingerprint sensor — up to 200; permanent or timed. Keep sensor dry for outdoor use
  • PIN code — up to 150; permanent, timed, one-time, custom, or recurring. Permanent codes must be used within 24 hours of creation
  • RFID card/tag access — up to 200 cards; 3 RFID tags included
  • Widest temperature range in the Auslock range — −30 °C to 60 °C
  • Suits aluminium, timber, and UPVC sliding doors; 35–75 mm door thickness
  • Field-reversible lever handle — independently adjustable on both panels. The panel arrow must point the same direction as the handle after adjustment — see FAQ
  • USB emergency power port — connect a power bank if batteries are flat
  • 4 × AA alkaline batteries — not included; low-battery alert below 4.5 V
  • 5 finishes — Silver, Black, Gold, Grey, White
Coastal and Outdoor Suitability
SS304 stainless steel and IP66 are the strongest specifications in the Auslock range for resisting salt-air, moisture, and direct rain on the exterior panel. For sheltered exterior sliding doors (interior face protected) this is the correct model. See coastal installation realities and corrosion resistance grades.

Sliding vs Hinged Mortice — Which Version Do I Need?

The S31B uses the same panel hardware for both door types — the distinction is in the mortice body supplied. A sliding door uses a hook mortice: when the sliding door closes, a rotating hook engages a catch in the door frame, providing positive latching that resists forced entry and lever-over attacks that a standard latch bolt cannot match on a sliding door. The hook bolt throw secures the door against lateral force. A hinged door uses a different body — see the S31B Hinged Door for the latch/bolt mortice variant.

Auslock S31B mortice comparison — left: sliding door hook mortice (this product); right: hinged door latch and bolt mortice
Left: Sliding Door Hook Mortice — rotating hook engages a frame catch. Right: Hinged Door Latch/Bolt Mortice — spring latch and bolt engage a strike plate. This product supplies the Sliding Door Hook Mortice (left).
Have a hinged door? The same S31B panel hardware is available with a latch/bolt mortice for hinged swing door installations. See the S31B Hinged Door.

Mortice — Hook Type (Sliding Door)

The S31B for sliding doors ships with a hook mortice — specifically designed for sliding door applications. When the sliding door closes, the rotating hook engages a catch in the door frame, providing positive latching and resistance to forced entry that a standard latch bolt cannot achieve on a sliding door. The hook bolt throw secures the door against lateral force. Available in 28 mm and 35 mm backset sizes; custom sizes available on request. Confirm your sliding door frame backset by measuring your backset before ordering.

Suitable Uses

Aluminium, timber, and UPVC sliding doors — the S31B hook mortice is purpose-designed for sliding door applications. See the door type compatibility matrix.
Patio and courtyard sliding doors requiring smart access control with fingerprint, PIN, and remote app access. Add a gateway for remote credential management and real-time notifications.
Coastal and high-humidity environments — SS304 stainless steel resists salt-air and moisture corrosion. See corrosion resistance grades and coastal installation realities.
Airbnb and short-stay rentals — timed PIN codes and e-keys for guests; add a gateway for remote access. See Chapter 07 — Smart locks for Airbnb.
Not for external pedestrian gates where the interior face is also exposed to weather. The IP66 rating applies to the external panel only — the interior battery unit is not IP-rated. For gate applications, the McGrath Ascot is the only battery-operated digital smart lock in Terry's range confirmed for external gate use. Also consider Marine Grade mechanical digital locks. If there is a security screen on the same opening, check screen door clearance. See IP ratings in practice.

Dimensions

Confirm your door's backset, door thickness, and stile width before ordering. For hook mortice backset, contact us to confirm 28 mm or 35 mm suits your sliding door frame.

Auslock S31B Slim Series panel dimensions — 280 mm tall 38 mm wide 25 mm deep; overall 134 mm; adjustable screw casing 55 to 100 mm; SUS 304
Panel: 280 mm H × 38 mm W × 25 mm D. Overall width with handle: 134 mm. Adjustable screw casing: 55–100 mm. Hook mortice backset: 28 mm or 35 mm.

Battery, Power & Backup

The S31B runs on 4 × AA alkaline batteries — not included. Alkaline only; lithium and rechargeable cells are not compatible. The low-battery alert fires below 4.5 V. For outdoor installations, battery drain accelerates in cold temperatures and high humidity. See what to expect from battery life in practice and Chapter 13 — battery FAQ.

USB Emergency Power
Connect a USB power bank to the front panel port if batteries are fully flat — temporarily powers the lock for PIN or fingerprint entry; does not charge batteries. Keep a power bank accessible outside for this scenario.
Install batteries last. Complete the full mechanical installation — mortice, exterior panel, interior panel — then install batteries as the final step with the door open. See battery install sequence — common mistake.

Remote App Access & Gateway

The S31B connects to the Auslock App via Bluetooth for local control. For remote access, real-time notifications, and voice control, an Auslock Gateway is required. See do you need a gateway?

Auslock G2 Gateway (Wi-Fi) — plug-in; 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. If your router merges bands, see the band-steering guide and Wi-Fi dropout causes blog.
Auslock G3 Gateway (PoE Ethernet) — wired; no band-steering issues. See Chapter 08 — Gateway Comparison and G2 vs G3 vs G4 vs G5.

Auslock App

The S31B uses the Auslock App, available on iOS and Android. iOS App StoreAndroid Google Play This is Auslock's own proprietary platform — not TTLock, not Tuya. Remote access requires an Auslock G2 or G3 Gateway.

The Auslock App connects to the Sciener cloud infrastructure for gateway functions. See Chapter 15 — Choosing the right app platform and data sovereignty considerations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the S31B suitable for outdoor use and coastal installations?
The external panel is IP66-rated and SS304 stainless steel — it handles direct rain, jet water, salt-air, and condensation on the exterior face. The IP66 rating applies to the external panel only. The interior unit (batteries) is not IP-rated. Not suitable for external pedestrian gates where the interior face is also exposed to weather. The McGrath Ascot is the only battery-operated digital smart lock in Terry's range confirmed for external gate use. See IP ratings explained, corrosion grades, and coastal installation realities.
How do I adjust the handle direction, and what is the arrow rule?
Loosen the inner hexagon screw on the front panel counter-clockwise, remove the handle, reinsert in the correct position for your door handing, then retighten. Repeat on the back panel independently. Critical: the arrow moulded into the panel face MUST point in the same direction as the handle after adjustment. If misaligned, the motor will drive the hook in the wrong direction. See Chapter 12 — misalignment errors.
My permanent passcode stopped working — why?
Permanent passcodes must be tested within 24 hours of creation, otherwise they auto-expire. Create the code, test it immediately, and it will remain active indefinitely.
The fingerprint is inconsistent outdoors — how do I improve it?
Wet fingers, condensation on the sensor, and low battery voltage all degrade outdoor recognition. Keep the sensor clean and dry; wipe with a dry cloth before use. Delete and re-enrol at 2–3 different angles. Replace batteries. See fingerprint access tips.
The touchpad has no response after installation — what do I check?
Confirm AA batteries are inserted with correct polarity. Check the wire connection between front and back panels. Inspect the cable for kinks. See DIY install mistake 1 and mistake 2.

Additional Information

Fingerprint registration and outdoor tips
Register via the Auslock App while beside the lock; 4 scan presentations required; enrol at 2–3 angles. For outdoor installs, register after the lock reaches ambient temperature. Monitor recognition — if it degrades, check battery voltage and sensor cleanliness. See Chapter 03 — fingerprint access.
Stile width check — aluminium doors
The S31B's 38 mm panel is narrower than any other Auslock model. Measure your door stile width before ordering. The screen door clearance guide covers the same measurement for security screen installations.
Installation notes for outdoor applications
Confirm your door prep format before ordering. Apply lubricant to all mechanical moving parts at installation. Read the common DIY install mistakes before starting. See Chapter 12 — DIY suitability guide.
What actually fails in outdoor electronic locks
IP66 and SS304 address water ingress and corrosion, but electronic locks are not set-and-forget outdoors. Battery drain accelerates in cold. Keypad surfaces accumulate salt and grime. Fingerprint sensors degrade with moisture. Read the realistic maintenance expectation before installing outdoors. See how coastal conditions affect smart lock lifespan.
