Austyle 59405 Lever Latch Set - Matt Black (Mortice Not Included)
The Austyle 59405 is a smart digital lever latch set for residential timber and aluminium doors. It provides five onboard access methods - fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card, Bluetooth app, and mechanical key - all managed through the TTLock app (iOS and Android). Understand the difference between Bluetooth-only and gateway-connected operation before ordering. The 59405 is designed to retrofit onto existing doors and includes an adjustable tubular latch (60-70mm backset).
The 59405 is the lever set only - the Austyle 49429 entrance mortice is not included and is sold separately. When the 49429 is installed, lifting the handle engages the mortice deadbolt and pulling down releases both the deadbolt and latch. Without the 49429, the lock operates on the included adjustable tubular latch only. For a complete kit that includes the 49429 mortice, see the Austyle 59406 Lever Entrance Set.
Remote WiFi access, voice control via Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, and automated access management are available when paired with the Austyle 59419 WiFi Gateway Hub (sold separately). The 59405 has no built-in WiFi. Lever handing and latch handing are both reversible, making the 59405 suitable for left-hand and right-hand doors. The lock is rated IP55, tested to 250,000 operating cycles, and 200 hours of salt-spray durability. Residential use only.

Battery, Power & Backup Access
- Powered by 4 x AA alkaline batteries (6V total) - not included. Use high-quality alkaline batteries only. Lithium and rechargeable batteries are not supported and may void warranty.
- Low battery alarm activates below 4.8V via app notification and onboard indicator. Replace all four batteries at the same time with fresh alkaline batteries.
- Micro USB emergency power port located beside the key barrel under the exterior panel. Connect a power bank to power the lock when batteries are fully depleted - then use PIN, RFID card, or the app to unlock. The key barrel also remains operational at all times.
- Mechanical key override provides physical backup access at all times. Keep at least one key stored in a secure location outside the door.
Remote App Access (Optional - WiFi Gateway Required)
The 59405 has no built-in WiFi. Remote access features - including remote unlock from anywhere, timed PIN code management, access history, and voice control via Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa - require pairing the lock with the Austyle 59419 WiFi Gateway Hub (sold separately). The hub connects to your 2.4GHz home WiFi network and bridges the lock to the TTLock cloud. Not sure whether you need a gateway? See our guide to what a smart lock gateway actually does.
Important - 2.4GHz only: The 59419 gateway requires a 2.4GHz WiFi network. Many modern routers use band steering, which may push the gateway onto 5GHz and cause connection failure. If you experience gateway connectivity issues, see our guide to band steering and smart lock WiFi setup and our blog on why smart locks drop off WiFi.
Without a gateway, the 59405 operates fully as a standalone unit on its onboard methods - fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card, Bluetooth app (within approximately 5m), and mechanical key. All user management is performed via the TTLock app over Bluetooth in close proximity. If you need built-in WiFi without a separate gateway, see the Austyle 59410 Smart Digital Lever Set, which includes built-in 2.4GHz WiFi.
Frequently Asked Questions
The 59405 and 59406 use identical lever sets with the same access methods and electronic specifications. The difference is kit configuration only. The 59405 ships with an adjustable tubular latch (60-70mm) and the 49429 entrance mortice is sold separately. The 59406 includes the 49429 mortice (60mm fixed backset) in the box - making it a complete entrance kit at better value than buying 59405 and 49429 separately. If your door has a 70mm backset, the 59405 with its adjustable latch is the correct choice; the 59406's fixed-60mm mortice will not fit a 70mm preparation.
No. The 59405 includes a tubular adjustable latch (60-70mm) and operates as a lever latch set on residential entry doors without a mortice. Adding the 49429 entrance mortice gives the lock full deadbolt function - lifting the handle engages the deadbolt, providing a higher level of entry security. Whether you need the mortice depends on your door preparation and security requirements. See our guide to measuring your lock backset before ordering.
The 59405 supports virtual passcode entry to prevent observers from identifying your actual PIN. Enter any random digits before or after your real PIN, then press # - the lock ignores the surrounding digits and recognises only the correct sequence within the string. For example, if your PIN is 1234, entering 987612345678# will still unlock the door. This is enabled by default and requires no configuration.
Both the lever and the latch are reversible. To change lever handing: remove the handing screw on the back panel, rotate the handle to the left or right to match your door, and reinsert the screw. To reverse latch handing: depress the latch mechanism into the body, rotate it, and release. The installation guide illustrates both procedures. See our guide to determining door handing in Australia if you are unsure of your door direction.
Remove the battery cover on the interior panel. Long-press the reset button beneath the battery cover for 5 seconds until you hear "Please Input Initialisation Passcode." Enter 000# on the keypad. The reset is complete - all stored users, codes, and credentials are cleared. Re-link the lock to your phone via the TTLock app. See the Austyle Factory Reset SOP for the full procedure, and our TTLock user manual reference for broader app guidance.
Additional Information
The arrow stamped on the rear of the backplate spindle hub must face the correct direction or the lock will not function. When using the lock with the tubular latch only, the arrow must point toward the handle. When using the lock with the 49429 entrance mortice, the arrow must point downward. This is the most common cause of installation failure on the 59405/59406 range. Confirm arrow direction before commissioning. See our guide to the spindle position installation mistake and our blog on common smart lock DIY installation mistakes.
IP55 means the exterior panel is tested against water spray from any direction and against dust ingress. The lock must never be installed in a position of prolonged direct rain or sunlight. Position under an eave or in a sheltered area. No warranty is provided for water entering from inside the door. Not suitable for tongue-and-groove doors where water can penetrate through the groove. See our guide to IP ratings for a full explanation.
Only high-quality alkaline AA batteries (4 x AA, 6V total) are supported. Lithium and rechargeable batteries cannot be used with this lock. If fingerprint reader accuracy decreases over time, check battery voltage first - low voltage commonly causes biometric performance degradation before the low battery alarm activates. See our TTLock guide on battery management for TTLock locks.
When the 59405 is installed with the 49429 entrance mortice, the handle operates in two directions: lift up to engage the mortice deadbolt (securing the door from inside), and pull down to release both the deadbolt and latch (opening the door). When the lock auto-locks electronically, the handle disengages from the latch - but the mortice deadbolt can still be manually engaged by lifting the handle at any time.
The first TTLock account to add this lock becomes the administrator. The administrator can then add or delete users, issue different types of passcodes, share e-Keys, and manage access remotely or locally. If the lock has been previously set up, perform a factory reset before initial commissioning. For a full walkthrough of the TTLock app, see our TTLock user manual reference. For a deeper look at the TTLock platform including data hosting and platform security, see Chapter 15.
When electronic auto-lock engages, the handle disengages from the latch mechanism. This is the intended "secure lock" state - the exterior cannot be opened by the handle alone without a valid credential. If you want to understand how this behaves with the internal knob or in passage mode, see our blog on secure lock and the internal snib on smart locks.
This lock is not rated for gate installation. The Austyle warranty explicitly excludes gate use. No battery-operated smart lock should be described as suitable for external pedestrian gates. For gate-suitable smart lock options, ask Terry's team for a recommendation.
