This BDS stainless steel face plate converts the faceplate of a Borg 28mm Ali-Latch to suit a door edge already cut out for a Lockwood 3582 mortice lock. It covers the old 3582 cut-out so the 28mm latch sits neatly in the door edge, whether the latch came with a keypad lock such as the BL2002SC or was bought on its own as the BLS272000LH or BLS272000RH.

It's for retrofit and repair work, where a 3582 is coming out and a mechanical digital keypad lock with the 28mm latch is going in. The Ali-Latch is a short backset mortice latch for narrow stiles, and this plate changes how its faceplate meets the door, not how the latch works.

What does "3582 cut-out" mean for my door?
It's the opening a Lockwood 3582 leaves in the door edge. The 3582 is an aluminium style mortice lock and, like any mortice lock, it sits in a pocket cut into the edge of the door rather than in a bored hole (bored versus mortice door prep). Which Borg latches does it suit?
The Borg 28mm Ali-Latch, whether it comes with a BL2002SC, BL2202SC or BL2702SCECP keypad lock or is bought on its own: BLS272000LH (left hand) or BLS272000RH (right hand) for the BL2000. Could I keep my 3582 lock instead?
Yes, if the 3582 is sound. Borg adaptor kits fit a keypad to the existing lock: BL3582KIT for 2000 and 4000 series keypads, BL3582KITBTB for back to back keypads, 09351500 (the BL3582KOR plate) where you want key override (KOR), and BL50013582K for 5000 series keypads on doors that open out. Does it change the latch handing?
No. The plate changes the faceplate, not the latch mechanism, so handing stays with the latch and lock you fit. The latch-only versions are sold as left hand and right hand (BLS272000LH and BLS272000RH for the BL2000), so work out your door's handing before you order. How big is the plate?

• Measure first: before ordering, check the door's stile width and the backset of the lock you're replacing, so the latch you order suits the frame.
• Order the right hand: the latch-only 28mm latches come in left hand and right hand versions (BLS272000LH or BLS272000RH), so check your door before you choose. See what happens if you order the wrong handing and field-reversible versus fixed hardware.
