Borg BL2202SC Mechanical Digital Lock - Knob Keypad - 28mm Mortice Latch - Holdback - Satin Chrome
The Borg BL2202SC is a fully mechanical digital lock built specifically for narrow stile doors. Unlike the standard BL2000 series, which uses a 60mm backset tubular latch, the BL2202SC uses a 28mm backset mortice latch with a compact 96×26mm faceplate - the correct choice for aluminium-framed doors, narrow stile timber doors, and any application where a standard 60mm backset latch is too deep for the door stile to accept.
It shares the same proven Borg 2000-series pushbutton mechanism as the rest of the range - no battery, no electronics, no power required - with a knob keypad outside and a paddle handle inside. The inside paddle is always free for immediate egress, with no code required to exit. A holdback function lets the latch be held retracted for continuous free passage, and can be permanently removed if not required.
Because it uses a 28mm mortice latch rather than a tubular one, the BL2202SC is also compatible with electric strikes, making it a genuine option for access control integrations on narrow-profile frames. See our Mechanical Digital Lock guide for how the category works in general.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
Enter the correct code and operate the knob to retract the latch, then engage the holdback to keep it retracted for free passage without further code entry. To release, operate the inside paddle handle. If holdback is not required, the device can be permanently removed from the inside paddle handle before installation. See Passage Mode vs Holdback Mode for how holdback compares with a true passage setting and where each is appropriate.
28mm Backset - Designed for Narrow Stile Doors
The BL2202SC uses a 28mm backset mortice latch with a 96×26mm faceplate - a compact latch body purpose-built for aluminium-framed doors, narrow stile timber doors, and any door where the stile is too narrow to mortice a standard 60mm backset latch.
If your door stile is wide enough to accept a standard 60mm latch, the 60mm-backset BL2200SC or the Easicode Pro BL2501SSECP may suit better - see the full family comparison below.
Not sure whether your door needs the 28mm or 60mm format? See our Narrow Frame door lock range and our guide to what backset actually means for how to measure your stile.

How to Change the Code
The lock must be removed from the door to change the code. The tumbler code can also be set and verified on the bench before installation, which avoids removing a freshly fitted lock for the very first code change.
- Remove the 4 red screws and carefully lift the cover plate away - the springs stay attached, so keep the keypad face-down and take care.
- Hold the C tumbler depressed at all times while you work. Never remove the C tumbler.
- Use the supplied tweezers to reposition the red (coded) and blue (uncoded) tumblers into your new code positions.
- All square cut-outs must face outward, and coloured marks must face upward.
- Test the new code before reinstalling the lock on the door.
Codes are non-sequential, so buttons can be pressed in any order. Spare tumblers let you adjust the code length from 3 to 7 digits. For on-door code changing instead, see the BL2201SCECP. For the shared step-by-step across the whole Borg range, see our code changing guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Many aluminium-framed doors and narrow stile timber doors simply don't have a wide enough stile to mortice a standard 60mm backset latch. The BL2202SC's 28mm mortice latch, with its compact 96×26mm faceplate, is purpose-built to fit these narrow profiles. If your door stile is wide enough for a 60mm latch, the BL2200SC or BL2501SSECP may be a better fit.
Yes. The 28mm mortice latch format is compatible with electric strikes, so the BL2202SC can suit access control integrations where the strike releases the latch on command from a control panel. Confirm compatibility with your access control supplier before specifying.
Both use the same 28mm backset mortice latch for narrow stile doors. The BL2202SC has a holdback facility on the inside paddle; the BL2002SC does not. Choose the BL2202SC where holdback is needed, or the BL2002SC for a simpler non-holdback paddle.
Yes - the tumbler code can be set and verified on the bench before the lock goes on the door, which avoids having to remove a freshly fitted lock just to do the first code change. See How to Change the Code above for the full procedure.
No - the BL2202SC is code-entry only, with no key cylinder fitted. There is currently no key-override variant in the 28mm narrow-stile format; the closest key-override options in the wider Borg range are on the 60mm-backset platform, such as BL7701.
Additional Information
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled outside the documented code change procedure - doing so will invalidate the warranty.

Borg BL2202SC - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide
Everything below is here to help you buy, install, set up and live with your Borg BL2202SC. For general mechanical digital lock questions see our Buyer's Guide Chapter 16, and for measuring your door see Chapter 02.
Fit & Narrow Stile Compatibility
It comes down to your door stile width. The 28mm mortice latch on this lock needs a faceplate pocket only 96mm high by 26mm wide - if your stile is much wider than that (roughly 40mm or more), a standard 60mm-backset model such as the BL2200SC will usually give a more secure bolt engagement. See our backset measuring guide for how to check.
It's rated for internal and sheltered external use only, not full weather exposure on an open gate. If you're solving a narrow-stile gate problem specifically, see our full narrow gate stile guide for every workable option, and consider a marine grade Borg model such as the BL2601MGPROECP for genuine outdoor exposure.
Choosing Within the Range
Yes - the BL2002SC is the same 28mm narrow-stile platform without the holdback facility, at a lower price point. See the full family comparison for every configuration across the range.
On the knob platform, Easicode Pro isn't currently available in the 28mm narrow-stile backset - the ECP knob models (BL2201SCECP, BL2501SSECP) are 60mm backset. If your door genuinely needs both a narrow stile and on-door code changing, the lever-platform BL2702SCECP uses a 28mm electric-strike-compatible ali-latch with Easicode Pro and key override - a different handle style, but the closest match to that combination in the range.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
