Borg BL2501SSECP Mechanical Digital Lock – Knob Keypad – Satin Stainless – Easicode Pro – Holdback
The Borg BL2501SSECP is a medium duty fully mechanical digital lock from the Codestar range, featuring a knurled knob keypad on the outside and an inside paddle handle with holdback. Easicode Pro (ECP) allows the PIN to be changed while the lock is installed — no lock removal required. The lock is finished in satin stainless and cycle tested to 100,000 operations, placing it in the medium duty tier of the BL2000 knob keypad series.
Single-sided: the outside knob is clutched and requires a PIN to operate; the inside paddle handle is always free for immediate egress. The holdback facility allows the latch to be held retracted for free passage when required. No batteries, no wiring. Suitable for internal and sheltered external timber and composite doors from 35mm to 54mm thick.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
The PIN code can be changed while the lock is installed using the included code change key. Insert the key into the ★ (star) button, press and hold, press C to clear, enter new code digits, confirm, then release. No lock removal required. A code change deactivation plug is included to prevent unauthorised code changes.
The inside paddle handle is always free to operate. No code is required to open the door from inside. Only the outside knob requires a PIN.
After entering the code and operating the knob, the holdback can be engaged to keep the latch retracted — allowing free passage without code entry. To release: operate the knob to disengage holdback. The holdback device can be permanently removed from the lock if not required for the installation.
The BL2501SSECP is from the Codestar range — the medium duty tier of the BL2000 series. Cycle tested to 100,000 operations. Suited to internal and sheltered external doors in residential, commercial, and strata environments where a higher duty rating than the entry-level BL2201 is required.
Entirely mechanical. No power source, no wiring, and no battery maintenance at any point.
For heavy duty: consider the Borg BL7701, Lockwood DX, or Carbine CDL7000.
Accepts one active PIN code at a time.

Installing on a narrow aluminium gate frame?
Planning to mount a Borg 2000 or 4000 series on an external gate with a 50mm × 50mm aluminium frame? Worried if the standard latch included in the box will fit?
You’re right — it won’t.
To get this lock working properly on gate frames, you’ll need a shorter latch.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Codestar range and how does BL2501 differ from BL2201?
The Codestar range is Borg's medium duty tier of the BL2000 knob keypad series. The BL2501SSECP is cycle tested to 100,000 operations and is built with premium stainless steel components throughout. The BL2201SCECP is the lighter duty equivalent — suited to lower-frequency internal applications. Choose BL2501SSECP where a higher duty rating is required, where satin stainless finish is the specification, or where the door sees regular daily use.
How do I change the PIN code with ECP?
With the door open, enter the current code. Insert the ECP code change key into the ★ (star) button on the keypad, press and hold fully. Press C to clear the existing code. Enter the new code digits. Press all digits again to confirm. Release and remove the key. Test the new code at least 5 times before closing the door. The code is non-sequential — the buttons can be pressed in any order.
How do I use the holdback function?
Enter the correct code and operate the knob to retract the latch, then engage the holdback — typically by pressing or rotating the holdback device on the inside paddle to the locked-open position. The latch stays retracted, allowing the door to open and close freely without code entry. To release: operate the inside paddle to disengage. If holdback is not required for the installation, the holdback device can be permanently removed from the lock body before fitting.
Is the BL2501SSECP suitable for external use?
It is suitable for sheltered external doors in normal weather conditions. It is not designed for direct coastal, saline, poolside, or high-humidity environments. For marine or coastal applications, see the BL2601MGPROECP (Marine Grade Pro, 1,000hr salt spray tested).
Can I remove the holdback if I don't want it?
Yes. The holdback device can be removed from the inside paddle handle before installation without affecting the function of the lock. Once removed, the inside paddle operates normally as a free-turn handle without holdback capability. Refer to the installation instructions supplied with the lock for the removal procedure.
Additional Information
The BL2000/BL2500 ECP series uses the ★ (star) button to initiate code change — different from the BL5000 ECP series which uses the Φ button. The supplied code change key inserts into the ★ button slot. Always test the new code a minimum of 5 times before closing the door.
The included plug can be pressed into the ★ button hole after setting the code to prevent anyone from initiating an unauthorised code change. The plug can be removed if code changes are needed in the future. This is useful in applications where the code is set once and should not be changed by door users.
Suits doors from 35mm to 54mm thick on standard fixings. Confirm door thickness before ordering. For thicker doors, check if an extended fixing kit is available from Borg or confirm with us.
All Borg locks are warranted against mechanical defects in materials and workmanship under normal use and service for a minimum of 12 months from date of sale. The warranty does not cover damage arising from misuse, vandalism, or improper installation. The lock must not be dismantled — doing so will invalidate the warranty.
