Borg BL2701MGPRO Marine Grade Pro Mechanical Digital Lock – Matt Black – Key Override

The Borg BL2701MGPRO is a fully mechanical digital lock from the BL2700 Marine Grade Pro series, developed specifically for coastal, marine, and external environments where salt air and moisture exposure are ongoing concerns. Internal components are manufactured from 316 grade stainless steel and the lock body carries Borg’s matt black Marine Pro grade finish — a coating developed to provide additional protection against harsh environments beyond the standard satin chrome finish.

The lock has been saltwater tested to 1,000 hours and is guaranteed to resist corrosion for up to 1 year. It operates on a single PIN code selected from over 8,000 possible combinations and includes a Silca YA5 6-pin mechanical key override cylinder. No batteries or mains power are required at any point. The lock is confirmed suitable for external use on timber and composite doors 35–54mm thick.

Note that this model does not include the EasiCode Pro on-door code change system. Code changes follow the standard Borg procedure, which requires removal of the internal knob assembly to access the coding mechanism.

Installing on a narrow aluminium gate frame?

Planning to mount this lock on an external gate with a 50mm × 50mm (or larger) aluminium frame?

Worried if the standard 60mm latch included in the box will fit?
You’re right — it won’t.

To get this lock working properly on gate frames, you’ll need the correct extended latch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the BL2701MGPRO have EasiCode Pro on-door code changing?

No. The Marine Pro series uses the standard Borg code change procedure, which requires the inside knob assembly to be removed to access and reset the coding mechanism. EasiCode Pro on-door code change is not available on this model. If on-door code change is required alongside key override, the BL2701SCECP (satin chrome, internal use only) includes EasiCode Pro.

What makes the Marine Pro series more corrosion resistant than a standard Borg lock?

Three things: 316 grade stainless steel internal components (higher corrosion resistance than standard steel), a stainless steel anti-thrust latch, and Borg’s matt black Marine Pro grade external finish which provides additional protective coating. The complete assembly has been saltwater tested for 1,000 hours and is guaranteed to resist corrosion for up to 1 year. Standard Borg satin chrome models are not rated for external or coastal use.

Can this lock be installed on an aluminium gate frame?

The lock can be installed on a gate, but the standard 60mm latch included in the box will not fit through a standard 50mm × 50mm aluminium gate frame. A compatible extended gate latch is required. See the compatible gate latch options above before ordering.

Does this lock need batteries or mains power to operate?

No. The BL2701MGPRO is a fully mechanical digital lock. All internal mechanisms are driven by the physical action of the keypad buttons. No electricity, batteries, or wiring are involved at any point. For an overview of battery-free Borg locks, see Chapter 10 – Brand Profiles in the Smart Lock Buyer’s Guide.

The corrosion guarantee is 1 year — what happens after that?

The 1-year corrosion resistance guarantee covers the period from installation, and is supported by the 1,000-hour saltwater test result. Beyond the guarantee period, the 316 stainless steel internals will continue to provide better corrosion resistance than standard components in coastal environments, but ongoing exposure to salt spray may cause surface degradation of the finish over time. Regular cleaning with fresh water after salt spray exposure will extend the lock’s service life. The Borg warranty covers manufacturing defects for 12 months from the date of sale.

Additional Information

Marine Installation – Maintenance Guidance:
In active marine environments — boat sheds, marina access doors, waterfront gates — rinse the lock with fresh water periodically to remove salt deposits from the external surfaces and keypad buttons. Pay particular attention to the key override cylinder entry point, which can accumulate salt residue. Applying a small amount of graphite lubricant to the cylinder barrel annually helps maintain smooth key operation. The coding mechanism itself is saltwater tested and does not require lubrication. Avoid applying oil-based lubricants to the keypad buttons as these can attract salt and grit.
Code Change Procedure – Standard Borg Method:
Unlike the EasiCode Pro models, the BL2701MGPRO requires the inside knob assembly to be partially disassembled to change the access code. The process involves removing the inside handle, accessing the code discs, setting the new combination, and reassembling. Full instructions are included in the product documentation. If regular code changes are expected — for example, at each change of occupancy — consider whether the EasiCode Pro models (BL2701SCECP for internal use) better suit the installation. See our guide on how long digital door locks last for context on what to expect from mechanical digital locks in coastal environments.
Silca YA5 Key Override Cylinder:
The Silca YA5 6-pin cylinder supplied with the BL2701MGPRO is the same profile as used in the standard BL2701SCECP. Keys can be duplicated at most locksmith workshops. If a master keyed or restricted key profile is required for site integration, confirm YA5-compatible cylinder availability with your locksmith. Note that the marine grade finish on the keypad and knob will not extend to a replacement cylinder — confirm that any replacement cylinder supplied by your locksmith has adequate corrosion resistance for the installation environment.
Code Security – How Borg Mechanical Codes Work:
The BL2701MGPRO keypad provides over 8,000 unique combinations. A single active code is stored at any time. On a Borg mechanical keypad, the order of button presses does not matter — only the combination of buttons pressed counts. Avoid predictable combinations (single row of buttons, obvious number sequences) and change the code if it is suspected to have been observed or compromised.
