Fire Rating and Compliance
What does "up to 4 hours - depending on doorset" actually mean?
The BL5001 has been tested as part of fire door assemblies (the whole door system - door, frame, seals, hinges, closer, and lock together) and passed for up to 4 hours in that context. The rating is not a standalone lock property. On a different doorset the result may differ, which is why you confirm the specific assembly certification with the doorset manufacturer before specifying. No - free passage is not holdback. In free passage the outside lever simply withdraws the latch without a code; it does not hold the door open. Whether a door may be left openable without a code is a question for the building's certifier and the doorset's requirements - on a door that must always need the code, take the F piece out On The Bench so free passage cannot be engaged. The differences between passage mode and holdback, including the fire door notes, are in Passage Mode vs Holdback Mode.

However, the AS 1428.1 standard for DDA compliance is prescriptive about lever geometry, including the flat-bar lever profile. If the installation is being assessed against AS 1428.1 specifically, consider the BL5401SSDDA which is specifically designed to that standard with an AS 1428.1 flat-bar DDA lever. The DDA options section of the heavy duty lock guide covers the key products.

Marine Grade and Coastal Selection
Which BL5001 finish is right for a pool gate or beachside location?
BL5001MGPRO only. It is the only variant with 316 stainless steel internals and 1,000-hour salt spray testing. The other three finishes are not built for coastal or pool exposure. If you also need on-door code change, the BL5001MGPROECP combines MG Pro with Easicode Pro - it is not fire tested, so not for fire doors. Codes and Code Change
Does the order of button presses matter?
No. Like all Borg mechanical coding chambers, only the combination of buttons pressed counts - not the sequence. So 1234 is entered successfully as 1234, 4321, 3412, 2143 or any other order. This is inherent to how mechanical coding chambers work. The implication is that every button in your code must be distinct - if you use the same button twice in a traditional sense, the chamber only registers it once. Choose a spread of buttons rather than repeated digits.

What is the standard backset and can I get a 70mm latch?

No - it is reversible on site for left-hand or right-hand doors. The handing procedure is in the Non-ECP Manual (PDF). Note that the handing chart in that manual covers both the BL5001 and the wider BL5000 series.

Yes, via the dedicated adaptor kits. The BL50013572K suits the Lockwood 3572 (single-sided) and BL50013572KBTB for back-to-back. The BL50013582K suits the Lockwood 3582 on outward-opening doors. The retrofit approach is popular in commercial buildings where the existing door hardware is retained and only the lock cylinder and escutcheon are replaced with the Borg keypad.

- Contact Terry's Tradies Pty Ltd first if you purchased through us or one of its associated trading names - we will assess the issue and manage the warranty process with LSC on your behalf. You do not need to contact LSC or Borg Locks UK directly.
- Have your proof of purchase ready (receipt or order confirmation).
- Warranty claims for Borg products in Australia are processed through LSC, the authorised Australian importer and distributor. Where an item is returned to LSC, freight charges must be prepaid and the item returned within the warranty period.
- If LSC finds the returned item to be defective, it will be repaired or replaced, and a detailed assessment report is provided to the customer after examination.
