Borg BL2901SCECP Mechanical Digital Lock – Satin Chrome – Anti-Ligature – EasiCode Pro
The Borg BL2901SCECP is a fully mechanical digital lock from the BL2900 ECP series, designed for managed care environments where ligature risk must be controlled. It features an anti-ligature knob on the keypad face and a lever handle on the opposite face. The lock requires no batteries, no mains power, and no electronics — all mechanisms are driven entirely by the keypad button actions. It accepts a single PIN code from over 4,000 possible combinations and includes Borg’s EasiCode Pro on-door code change system.
The two-sided design is the key to how this lock works in managed care settings. The keypad face (keypad + anti-ligature knob) faces the patient or at-risk occupant. The anti-ligature knob has a smooth, rounded profile with no protrusions or attachment points that could support a ligature. The knob only operates after the correct PIN has been entered on the keypad. The lever face operates freely without a code, and faces the staff or controlled side of the door.
In a typical mental health facility patient room installation: the keypad and anti-ligature knob face into the room. A care worker enters the room freely using the lever from the corridor. To exit the room, the care worker enters the PIN and turns the anti-ligature knob from inside. The patient inside the room has access only to the smooth anti-ligature knob — they cannot operate the lock without the PIN, and the knob presents no ligature attachment point. In a hospital cleaners cupboard or nurses station: the orientation is reversed — the keypad and anti-ligature knob face the common corridor where patients move freely, and the lever is inside the cupboard for staff to exit without a code.
The lock is cycle tested to 50,000 operations, is rated for internal light to medium use, and is suited to timber and composite doors 35–54mm thick. It is not weather resistant and is not rated for external installation.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and Qld public holidays)
Suited to internal office doors, server rooms, secure units, and managed environments where anti-ligature hardware is required.
For heavy-duty requirements, consider the Lockwood DX, Borg 7701, or Carbine CDL7000 Series.
The BL2901SCECP has an anti-ligature knob on the keypad face. The smooth, rounded knob eliminates protrusions, gaps, and attachment points that could support a ligature. This face is installed facing the at-risk occupant — the patient room interior in a mental health facility, or the common corridor in a restricted service area (for example, a cleaners cupboard). The opposite face has a standard lever, accessible to staff only.
The access code can be changed directly on the installed lock without any tools or lock removal. No programming devices, apps, or specialist equipment required.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does a lock with a lever on one side qualify as anti-ligature?
The lever is installed on the staff-accessible side — not on the side the at-risk person can reach. In a mental health patient room, the keypad and anti-ligature knob face into the room. The patient inside sees only the smooth, rounded anti-ligature knob, which has no protrusions or gaps that could support a ligature. The lever is on the corridor side, accessible to care workers only. In a restricted service area such as a cleaners cupboard or nurses station, the orientation is reversed: the keypad and anti-ligature knob face the common corridor where patients move, and the lever is inside the room accessible to staff only.
How does a care worker enter and exit a patient room?
In a patient room installation, the lever faces the corridor. A care worker entering the room pushes the lever from the corridor — no code required. To exit the room, the care worker enters the PIN on the keypad and turns the anti-ligature knob from inside the room. The patient inside the room cannot operate the lock without knowing the PIN, and cannot attach a ligature to the smooth anti-ligature knob.
What does anti-ligature mean, and why is it specified in certain environments?
Anti-ligature hardware is designed to eliminate the surfaces, gaps, and protrusions that could allow a cord, rope, sheet, or other material to be attached and support a load. In environments where occupants may be at risk of self-harm — including mental health wards, secure residential units, correctional facilities, and disability housing — all door hardware within reach of the at-risk person must meet anti-ligature requirements. The BL2901SCECP achieves this by placing a smooth, rounded anti-ligature knob on the patient-facing side. Specifiers should confirm that all other hardware in the installation also meets the applicable facility standard.
Does the BL2901SCECP have a mechanical key override?
No. The BL2901SCECP has no mechanical key override, cylinder, or keyway. The keypad face requires PIN entry to operate. The lever face operates freely without any code. If a key override is required, consider the BL2701SCECP instead.
How do I change the code using EasiCode Pro?
The code is changed directly on the installed lock using the dedicated EasiCode Pro button and the supplied code change block pin. The process takes under a minute and does not require any tools or lock removal. Full instructions are in the BL2000 ECP EasiCode Pro Installation Instructions.
Does this lock need batteries or mains power to operate?
No. The BL2901SCECP is a fully mechanical digital lock. All internal mechanisms are driven by the physical action of the keypad buttons. No electricity, batteries, or wiring are involved at any point. For a broader overview of battery-free Borg locks, see Chapter 10 – Brand Profiles in the Smart Lock Buyer’s Guide.
Additional Information
The BL2901SCECP has an anti-ligature knob on the keypad face only. The lever face has a standard lever handle and is not an anti-ligature surface. The lock must be installed so that the keypad face (anti-ligature knob) faces the at-risk occupant, and the lever face faces the staff or controlled side. In a patient room: keypad face into the room, lever face to the corridor. In a restricted service area (cleaners cupboard, nurses station, kitchen): keypad face to the common corridor, lever face into the room.
Specifiers should note that anti-ligature hardware requirements vary by facility type and applicable standards. Confirm that the BL2901SCECP meets the specific ligature-risk classification required for the installation before ordering. All other door hardware in the same room or corridor — hinges, closers, strike plates, and furniture — should also be assessed for ligature compliance. Confirm installation orientation with the facility’s clinical or safety team before proceeding.
EasiCode Pro replaces the older method of removing tumblers from the back of the keypad — a process that could take 10 to 15 minutes and required the lock to be removed from the door. With EasiCode Pro, the code is changed in approximately 30 seconds using the dedicated button and block pin while the lock remains fitted. In managed care environments, this allows staff to change access codes quickly between occupants. The same block pin can also be inserted to permanently disable the external code change function — useful where the code must be locked down to prevent changes except by authorised personnel with physical access to the lock internals. See our guide on how long digital door locks last for context on lifespan expectations for mechanical digital locks.
The BL2901 uses a deadlocking tubular latch with an anti-thrust pin. When the door closes fully, the latch bolt automatically deadlocks — preventing forced retraction using a card or flexible tool. For the deadlocking function to engage reliably, the strike plate must be correctly aligned and the latch bolt must fully seat into the strike. Refer to our guide on measuring your lock backset to confirm correct installation measurements before drilling.
The BL2901SCECP keypad has 12 coded buttons providing over 4,000 unique combinations. A single active code is stored at any time. On a Borg mechanical keypad, the order of button presses does not matter — only the combination of buttons pressed counts. In managed facilities, change the code when staff access lists change, after any suspected code compromise, or at every change of room occupant. Avoid predictable combinations that use a single row of buttons. The EasiCode Pro block pin can be used to prevent unauthorised code changes at the keypad.
