FORGE HDS1 D-Handle Push Pull Smart Lock - 3D Face Recognition, TTLock
At A Glance
(G5 Gateway)
The FORGE HDS1 D-Handle Push Pull Smart Lock pairs long, solid CNC-machined aluminium D-handles with a fully automatic mortice lock and 3D face recognition. Once you are recognised - or use a fingerprint, PIN, card, the app or the key - the motor releases the lock and you push or pull the door; it re-engages when the door closes.
FORGE builds it for heavy aluminium frames and double-glazed doors: 550 mm panels on doors 35-110 mm thick, swing, sliding or pivot, opening in any direction. It runs on the TTLock app over Bluetooth, with the optional FORGE TTLock G5 gateway for remote unlock and a schedulable passage mode, and a rechargeable battery with a USB-C emergency port. Choose the swing or sliding mortice backset that suits your frame at checkout.

Access Methods
FORGE does not publish how many faces, fingerprints, codes or cards the HDS1 stores - ask us if a large user list matters to you. From the inside, use the manual lock and unlock buttons on the inside handle.

TTLock App
Set the lock up in the free TTLock app, available for iOS and Android ![]()
. Choose Australia as your location when you sign up, give the app full permissions and turn Bluetooth on. Until the first administrator is added the lock is in its factory state - the default admin code is 123456 and any fingerprint will open it - so pair it as soon as it is fitted. FORGE's TTLock pairing guide shows the steps; keep your phone within 2 metres while pairing. The introduction pages of the manual cover the same ground for this model.
TTLock is one of the two global smart lock platforms - how it compares with Tuya is set out in our TTLock vs Tuya comparison, and the wider TTLock range in Chapter 14 - the TTLock hardware ecosystem. The app itself is covered in the TTLock app user manual. FORGE also names its DB2 video doorbell, which has a gateway built in, as a remote route for this lock.
Without a gateway the HDS1 is managed over Bluetooth when your phone is within about 5-10 metres - see what a TTLock lock can do without Wi-Fi. FORGE offers the FORGE TTLock G5 gateway as the add-on for remote Wi-Fi management and unlocking: with it plugged in within range you can unlock on demand from anywhere, change codes, check records and set a passage-mode schedule remotely - Bluetooth vs gateway in Chapter 14. Remote Unlock has to be switched on in the app and Power Saving Mode turned off (manual page 18).
Key Features
- Fully automatic push pull operation - the motor retracts the lock when you are recognised and re-engages the bolts when the door closes.
- Solid CNC-machined aluminium D-handles and body, with FORGE's stainless steel mortice, for heavy aluminium frames and double-glazed doors.
- 3D face recognition with radar wake, plus fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card, the TTLock app and a mechanical key - compare the methods in Chapter 03.
- UV-resistant tempered glass keypad with a display screen, doorbell button and manual lock button on the outside handle.
- TTLock over Bluetooth, with the optional G5 gateway for remote unlock and management.
- Schedulable Passage Mode - the door stays unlocked during set hours for shops, offices and events (what passage mode does).
- Mortice backset chosen at checkout: swing doors 25-60 mm, sliding doors 20-45 mm; suits swing, sliding and pivot doors in all opening directions.
- Rechargeable battery, a low-battery alert and a USB-C emergency port next to the keyhole.
- IP65 on the outside handle; after five wrong attempts in a row the keypad locks for 90 seconds.
- Permanent, time-limited, one-time and recurring users, eKeys and a Forced Fingerprint duress alarm.
- Suits doors with vertical push pull handles and sliding doors - one of our app-enabled smart locks.

Suitable Uses
- Heavy aluminium-framed and double-glazed entry doors with vertical push pull handles (smart locks on push pull doors).
- Swing, sliding and pivot doors 35-110 mm thick, opening in any direction - with the right mortice for the frame.
- Shops, offices, clinics and rentals that want a scheduled passage mode and TTLock's user management.
- Short-stay and managed properties on TTLock with a G5 gateway (short-stay platforms in our platform guide).
- Doors thinner than 35 mm or thicker than 110 mm.
- Frames too shallow for the mortice - check the frame depth against the case depth for your backset below.
- Fully exposed doors - the outside handle is IP65 for general outdoor conditions; FORGE recommends shelter or a rain hood where the door takes the weather.
- Fire-rated doors - FORGE does not quote a fire rating for the HDS1.
- Buyers who want a camera doorbell - the FORGE A90 has one, with Wi-Fi built in.

Door Fit, Mortice and Backset
Choose your mortice backset at checkout. FORGE sells the HDS1 with a choice of mortice - swing-door backsets of 25, 28, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 60 mm, or sliding-door (hook) backsets of 20, 28, 30, 35 and 45 mm - measured from the edge of the door (or the faceplate) to the centre of the lock. Choose swing for a hinged or pivot door and sliding for a sliding door - FORGE's HDS1 suits all three. How to measure backset.
Case depths are from FORGE's swing-door (240 x 22 mm faceplate) and sliding-door (270 x 22 mm faceplate) mortice size guides below, and FORGE's compatibility calculator for the 30 mm sliding mortice.
- Door stop or jamb overlap - how far the door stop or jamb overlaps the door edge. The handle base must clear it, so the backset has to leave room beside the lock.
- Frame depth - the depth of the door's frame section from its edge to the glass pocket. The mortice case has to fit inside it.
- Flush or surface-mounted faceplate - FORGE's calculator allows for either. A surface-mounted faceplate sits on the door edge instead of being recessed, which saves 2 mm of frame depth.
- Door thickness - 35-110 mm.
- Mounting height - FORGE recommends 1.2-1.4 m to the camera for face recognition (manual page 4).
- FORGE's checklist - confirm the door type, the jamb overlap, the frame depth and the installation clearances before ordering. Send us your measurements or a photo of the door edge and frame and we will check the backset with you.
FORGE's installation template is drawn for a 35 mm backset - adjust it to the backset you order. It marks an 18 x 190 mm mortice pocket, a 25 mm spindle hole on the handle line, a cable slot above, a cylinder slot below and connection-screw holes 398 mm apart.

FORGE Push Pull Smart Locks
This product is in bold. Capacities: the A90 stores up to 50 faces, 200 fingerprints, 150 passcodes and 200 cards; the S3 50 faces (palms too on the S3A), 100 fingerprints, 200 passcodes and 200 cards; FORGE does not publish the HDS1's capacities. All four lock themselves when the door closes and run on a rechargeable battery.
Accessories and Spares
FORGE also lists its DB2 video doorbell, which has a gateway built in, for remote control of this lock - ask us if you want one. Other gateways are in the modules and Wi-Fi gateways category, and more cards and fobs in the RFID credentials range.
Battery and Emergency Power
The HDS1 runs on a rechargeable battery in the inside handle - charge it fully before fitting (manual page 9). FORGE does not publish its capacity or running time; face recognition's radar is the biggest drain, so a lower radar sensitivity makes a charge last longer. A low-battery alert warns you with roughly 50 to 100 unlocks left. If the battery does go flat, connect 5 V power to the USB-C port next to the keyhole with a USB-A to USB-C cable and unlock normally (manual page 20), or use the mechanical key. More on what really affects battery life and power and battery FAQs.

Weather Rating - IP65 Outside Handle
FORGE rates the outside handle IP65 against rain, dust and direct sun, with a UV-resistant tempered glass keypad. The rating covers general outdoor conditions, not driving rain, hail, salt spray, flooding or immersion; FORGE recommends a rain hood where the door is exposed, and the tamper sensor must sit on a flat surface for the seal to hold. Water ingress beyond IP65 is not covered by the warranty (non-warranty disclaimer). On the coast, read coastal environments and what corrosion grades mean.

Platform and Data
Platform. The HDS1 runs on TTLock - Bluetooth to your phone, with the TTLock G5 gateway for remote access. FORGE also names its DB2 video doorbell, which has a gateway built in.
Where your data goes. TTLock is run by Sciener, a Chinese company. Accounts outside China use TTLock's out-of-China servers; where that infrastructure is hosted, and which region Australian accounts use, is not published - in short, a Chinese company's servers, location unpublished. For the platform-by-platform picture see where each smart lock platform hosts its data, and for TTLock's security record see Chapter 14 - TTLock security.
Installation
The HDS1 fits the mortice you choose into the door edge and clamps the outside and inside handles together through the door on threaded sleeves, with a data cable between them. FORGE's template is a reference to adjust for your backset, and the installation section of the manual runs through each step with drawings.
- Mark out with the camera 1.2-1.4 m above the floor, the height FORGE recommends for face recognition (manual page 4).
- Fit the mortice with the latch facing the closing direction - latch on top, deadbolt below; reverse it through the flap and turn it 180 degrees (manual page 5).
- Fit the cylinder from outside and cut its tail shaft to stand 10-11 mm proud of the inside face - too long and the lock will not unlock (manual page 6).
- Mount the outside handle with the tamper sensor pressing on a flat part of the door - an uneven surface causes false alarms and spoils the weather seal (manual page 7).
- Fit the spindle's short bumped end into the mortice from inside and cut it to stand 17-19 mm proud, then connect the data cable and fix the inside handle with the two M5 screws (manual page 8; the spindle mistake in Chapter 12).
- Fit the fully charged battery. Then check the handles move freely, the bolts throw and retract, the keypad lights and 123456# unlocks - with the keys outside the premises (manual page 9). Terry's offers installation across the Gold Coast.
Which way a door is handed is explained in how to tell which way your door or gate opens.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the door type and the frame: measure how far the door stop overlaps the door, and the frame depth to the glass pocket, then match them to the case depths in Door Fit. Send us the measurements and we will confirm the backset before you order.
Register your face at 0.5-0.8 m from the lock; it will not scan beyond 1.2 m. A radar wakes the camera as you approach - a higher sensitivity reaches further but uses much more battery. With the radar off, press 9# to start a scan.
Only for remote use and remote scheduling changes. Face, fingerprint, PIN and card entry work without a phone, and the app works over Bluetooth within about 5-10 metres. Add the G5 gateway to unlock and manage the lock from anywhere.
Yes - choose a sliding (hook) mortice backset at checkout. FORGE offers 20, 28, 30, 35 and 45 mm for sliding doors.
A rechargeable battery in the inside handle, with a USB-C emergency port next to the keyhole and the mechanical key as backups.
Additional Information
- Register an administrator straight away. Until the first administrator is added in the app, the lock is in its factory state with the default code 123456. A factory reset puts it back into that state.
- Check the frame before choosing a backset. The jamb overlap and the frame depth decide which mortice fits.
- It locks behind you. The bolts re-engage when the door closes - carry a credential every time you step out, or schedule passage mode.
- Keep the tamper sensor on a flat surface. An uneven mounting face causes false alarms and lets water in.
- Keep the mechanical keys away from the door - in the house or the car - so they are there if the battery fails (key storage ideas).
Warranty
2-year FORGE warranty from the date of delivery - covers defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. Excludes improper installation or maintenance, misuse, accident, normal wear and tear (including fading or dulling of finishes) and water damage beyond the product's rated IP protection. Proof of purchase required for all claims. Returns & Warranty | FORGE warranty terms

FORGE HDS1 D-Handle Push Pull Smart Lock - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide
Everything below is here to help you choose, fit, set up and live with the FORGE HDS1. For general smart lock questions see our Smart Lock FAQ (Chapter 13), and for measuring and fitting the Buyer's Guide.
Choosing a FORGE Push Pull Lock
The HDS1 is the large D-handle lock for heavy aluminium and double-glazed doors, with swing or sliding mortices. The A90 adds a video doorbell and Wi-Fi built in on a 60 mm mortice; the S3 is a slimline lock for aluminium frames, also sold with swing or sliding mortices and in a Forge Smart (Tuya) Wi-Fi version.
FORGE does not publish the HDS1's face, fingerprint, code or card capacities. Ask us if you need a figure for a large site.
Door Fit and Mortice
Swing doors: 25, 28, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 60 mm. Sliding doors: 20, 28, 30, 35 and 45 mm. Choose at checkout.
FORGE's calculator allows the faceplate to sit on the door edge instead of being recessed - it saves 2 mm of frame depth and slightly reduces the clearance beside the lock.
35-110 mm, in swing, sliding and pivot doors.
Face Recognition
Register your face in the app standing 0.5-0.8 m from the lock, turning your head slowly when asked; it will not scan beyond 1.2 m. A proximity radar wakes the camera as you approach - its sensitivity is adjustable in the app, and a higher setting reaches further but uses much more battery. With the radar off, press 9# to start face recognition (manual page 14).
FORGE recommends 1.2-1.4 m from the floor to the camera; its detection-zone diagram covers users from about 0.9 to 1.7 m tall and is indicative only - test on site (manual page 15).
Credentials and Access
Press the finger firmly on the sensor several times when prompted, moving it slightly each time so the lock captures different areas. Avoid wet fingers. Older people can have flatter fingerprints - register the same finger more than once. Children's fingerprints change as they grow, so update them every few months or give them a passcode.
A duress fingerprint. You register it like any other, but when it is used the administrator receives an alarm notification. It is meant for an emergency where someone is forcing you to open the door, not for daily use.
Four: time-limited, one-time (it must be used within 6 hours of being created), permanent and recurring. Time-limited, permanent and recurring codes must be used once within 24 hours of their start time or the lock suspends them. Codes are generated by the app and can be customised afterwards, 4 to 9 digits (manual page 12; Chapter 14 - passcode types).
MIFARE 1K cards - two come in the box, and extra FORGE MIFARE 1K cards are sold separately. FORGE does not publish the card capacity.
An eKey gives another TTLock account the right to unlock - time-limited, one-time, permanent or recurring - with options for remote unlock, an unlock link that works without the app, or near-administrator rights (TTLock eKeys).
After five wrong attempts in a row the lock ignores all input for 90 seconds. The keypad goes back to sleep after 20 seconds without use.
Remote Access and the G5 Gateway
Only for remote use. Fingerprint, PIN and card entry work with no phone at all, and the app works over Bluetooth within about 5-10 metres. Add the FORGE TTLock G5 gateway to unlock on demand, change codes or check records from away from home - what a gateway actually does and the G5 explained.
Plug it in indoors within Bluetooth range of the lock, on a 2.4 or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network - the closer the better, with as few walls as possible in between. If the lock keeps dropping off, see the real fixes for Wi-Fi dropouts and gateway placement.
Remote Unlock must be switched on for the lock in the app, and Power Saving Mode turned off (manual page 18). Check that the gateway shows the lock in range.
Yes - FORGE offers the FORGE TTLock Bluetooth remote as an add-on for the HDS1. It unlocks at close range without the app or a code.
Power and Batteries
FORGE does not publish a figure. The radar for face recognition is the biggest drain - lower its sensitivity to extend a charge.
Connect 5 V power to the USB-C port next to the keyhole with a USB-A to USB-C cable and unlock normally (manual page 20). The mechanical key is the other backup.
Installation and Troubleshooting
The cylinder tail shaft is probably too long - it should stand only 10-11 mm proud of the inside face (manual page 6).
Set the door opening direction in the TTLock app after adding the lock (manual page 11).
Hold the lock and unlock buttons on the inside handle together for about 5 seconds until it asks for the initialisation password, then enter 000# (manual page 19).
