Decoding Lockwood Codes - Locks and Spare Parts
Lockwood's part numbers look cryptic until you know the pattern - then they tell you exactly what you are looking at. There are two schemes to know: one for the locks themselves, and one for service parts like this keypad.
Spare part codes start with SP. Every code beginning SPDX- is a spare part for the DX digital range - this keypad (SPDX-50SC), the mounting plates (SPDX-324, SPDX-520) and the code tumblers (SPDX-42, SPDX-43) all follow it. Codes in the SP10000- series are DX service parts from Lockwood's 10000 parts family - spindles, mounting screws and tumbler notches. The trailing letters are the finish, so the SC on SPDX-50SC means Satin Chrome, exactly as it does on the locksets.
Lock model numbers carry their spec in the digits. On the DX mortice locksets the first digit is the backset, the middle digits are the platform, and the suffix chain spells out the configuration:

Code Control - How the Code Works and How to Change It
The keypad ships with a 4-digit factory-set code, changeable to any 4, 5 or 6 digit code of your choosing using the supplied code change kit. Each digit is used once per code, and because the code lives in a tumbler chamber rather than a sequence, digits are order-independent - 2580 and 0852 open the same chamber, so pick digits, not patterns. The code clears automatically as the knob is operated, so the lock is never left sitting on a half-entered or valid code.

Yes. The keypad arrives on a 4-digit factory code, and the supplied code change kit lets you set any 4, 5 or 6 digit code - including the one your door already uses, so staff never notice the swap. Check with us first. The key override family - 3572DXKO and the cylinder-free 3572DXKONCYL - has its own orderable keypad and cylinder parts on page 10 of the Service Manual. Ordering the standard keypad for a KO lock is the most common mistake we can save you from with one photo.
The keypad suits doors from 32mm to 45mm thick, which covers standard Australian residential and most commercial timber doors. If your door sits outside that range - an unusually thick solid-core leaf, for instance - talk to us before ordering rather than after.
They are Lockwood's spare-part code families for the DX range: SPDX- parts are DX digital spares (keypads, mounting plates, code tumblers) and SP10000- parts are DX service parts (spindles, screws, tumbler notches). Codes and Everyday Use
Any 4, 5 or 6 digit code, with each digit used once per code. Because the code lives in a tumbler chamber rather than a sequence, the digits are order-independent - 2580 and 0852 open the same chamber - so pick digits, not patterns. Set your own code with the supplied kit before the keypad goes on the door, following the before-you-start checklist - and make sure someone responsible records it, because knowing the current code is the first rule of every future change.
That is the clutching action, and it is deliberate. Until a valid code is entered, the knob freewheels rather than driving the latch, so forcing or wrenching it transfers no load into the mechanism. It is one of the reasons these locks survive high-traffic commercial doors for decades - the same internal engineering that separates commercial hardware from lookalikes.

Fitting and Troubleshooting

Three things: the spindle (worn drive flats are the most common hidden fault - the SP10000-127ZP spindle pack is cheap insurance), the mounting plate (SPDX-324 for DX keypads, SPDX-520 for 002 systems), and the latch alignment against the strike. Ten minutes of checking while everything is apart saves a second visit.
Not always. Paint overspray, mortar dust and salt build-up are the usual culprits, and a clean (soft damp cloth, mild soap, never solvents) often restores the action. - Everbrass finishes: up to 25 years against corrosion, tarnishing and discolouration.
- Stainless steel, polished stainless steel, chrome plating and anodised finishes: typically up to 10 years.
- PVD and VIVID finishes: typically up to 10 years.
- Symmetry range finishes: typically up to 5 years.
- Decorative finishes (Antique Copper, Architectural Bronze, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Aged Brass, Polished Brass, Satin Brass and related variants): typically up to 2 years against corrosion.
- Unlacquered brass finishes naturally age and change appearance over time. This is not considered a defect.
- Tea staining of stainless steel is not covered where the required cleaning and maintenance have not been followed.
