McGrath A231 Slimline Digital Smart Lock - 5-in-1 Access, Ultra-Slim 31mm Body, Hinged Doors
The McGrath A231 is an ultra-slim 5-in-1 digital smart lock engineered for hinged (swing) aluminium and timber doors where stile width is tight. With an exceptionally narrow 31 mm lock body, it is one of the slimmest smart locks in the McGrath range and is built for narrow-frame door stiles.
Lock configuration and user management run through the McGrath Locks App over Bluetooth as standard. Access can be issued by keypad PIN, RFID credentials, fingerprint recognition, Bluetooth eKeys, or a mechanical key override. Optional remote access is available when the lock is paired with a compatible McGrath Locks Wi-Fi gateway.
This listing is the hinged-door A231. For sliding doors, McGrath supplies a separate A231 with hook bolt variant. The A231 sits in the slimline family beside the A210 and A236. Where stile width, backset or door thickness is in question, work through Measuring Your Door (Chapter 02) before ordering.
Usually same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and QLD public holidays).
If your door has a narrow frame or tight stile, explore our range of slim-profile smart locks designed for aluminium and narrow-frame doors. Related McGrath slimline models: A210 (hinged), A210 Double-Sided, A236 (36mm hinged), and the A231 with Hook Bolt (sliding doors).

Compatible gateways: G3 PoE / Ethernet, G4 4G SIM, and G5 dual-band Wi-Fi. If the lock drops its connection after a gateway is fitted, Why Smart Locks Drop Off Wi-Fi covers the common causes.

Frequently Asked Questions
The A231 has an ultra-slim 31 mm wide body - the narrowest McGrath slimline lock - with a supplied 28 mm backset Euro mortice (85 mm centres). It suits doors 28-55 mm thick. Measure your stile width, backset and door thickness first - Measuring Your Door (Chapter 02) and Measuring Your Lock Backset walk through it.
This listing is the hinged-door A231. For sliding doors, McGrath supplies a separate A231 with hook bolt variant with 28 mm or 35 mm sliding backset options.
No. Bluetooth is standard for local app control. Remote unlocking and credential management require a compatible McGrath gateway (G3, G4 or G5). G2 vs G3 vs G4 vs G5 explains the differences.
Low-battery alerts sound at the lock and appear in the app well before the batteries die. If they do go flat, use the USB-C emergency power input with a power bank, or the supplied mechanical key in the Euro mortice cylinder. Mechanical Key Override on Smart Locks covers planning for a flat-battery lockout.
On slimline mortice locks this is almost always spindle/hub position, backset, or door prep rather than a fault. Smart Lock Not Locking? 3 Common DIY Mistakes covers it. Some buyers also ask about a vibration Tamper Alert - the A231 does not support Tamper Alert; if it appears in the app it produces phantom alerts, so leave it off (how to turn it off).
Additional Information
The A231 is a McGrath-branded lock on the TTLock platform (also compatible with TTRenting and TTHotel for short-stay and hotel management). It is distributed by LSC and supported by Terry's Locksmiths - see Why Terry's Locksmiths, LSC & McGrath Locks Give Long-Term Confidence. For a plain-English overview of the platform, see the TT Lock Platform Guide (Chapter 14) and Which App Platform Is Right for You.
Within the slimline family, the A231 is the 31 mm ultra-slim member. Step up to the A236 (36 mm) or A210 (~43 mm) for a larger body, choose the A210 Double-Sided for back-to-back keypad access, or the A231 with hook bolt for sliding doors.

Difficult to install
Seems ok but very difficult to install, instructions are not clear on which bolts goes where and the bottom bolt to lock the unit together with the door frame actually clashes with the lock mechanism. The lock itself if basically a generic Chinese made version that has been rebadged as McGrath. I have seen similar locks on Amazon for $100 cheaper.
