McGrath Grange Smart Lock - Integrated Entrance Pull Handle with 5-in-1 Access

The McGrath Grange Smart Pull Handle Lock is a residential smart entrance lock that combines a full-height architectural pull handle with multiple electronic access methods in a single unit. The lock allows authorised users to unlock the door using fingerprint, PIN code, RFID credential, Bluetooth mobile app, or mechanical key override.

The Grange is built for modern residential entry doors and uses an integrated electronic deadbolt mechanism with an adjustable backset. It is managed through the McGrath Locks mobile application, which provides access management, user permissions and activity records. Remote control - including unlocking and managing codes from anywhere - is available when the lock is paired with a compatible McGrath gateway; for a plain-English explanation of what changes when a gateway is added, see Chapter 14 - Bluetooth-only vs Gateway.

The exterior housing is rated IP65 for outdoor exposure and is constructed from stainless steel with a tempered glass keypad and fingerprint reader.

Save on Door Hardware

The McGrath Grange integrates the smart lock and the full-height entrance pull handle into a single unit, which makes it well suited to a fresh-fit installation on a new door.

A separate smart lock installation often requires an additional architectural pull handle or push/pull furniture, which can add several hundred dollars to the door hardware cost.

By combining the lock and pull handle in one unit, the Grange can reduce hardware costs and simplify installation. Pairing the lock with a roller bolt or roller catch keeps the door held closed when the deadbolt is unlocked, while the electronic deadbolt controls security.

Using the Grange Dummy Pull Handle for Double Doors

For double entrance doors, only one door normally contains the smart lock mechanism. The matching McGrath Grange dummy pull handle is fitted to the inactive door so both doors share the same architectural appearance.

The dummy handle contains no electronics or locking mechanism. It provides a fixed pull handle that visually matches the active Grange smart lock, creating a symmetrical entrance when the doors are closed.

Important Installation Notes
  • Use the supplied installation template so the handle fixing centres and lock bore are positioned correctly.
  • The lock requires a 54 mm cross-bore hole and a 60 mm or 70 mm backset latch position.
  • Ensure the door closes firmly against the strike so the latch and door sensor align correctly.
  • For double door entrances, fit a matching Grange dummy pull handle on the inactive door.

Battery icon Battery, Power & Backup Access

  • Powered by 4 x AA alkaline batteries located inside the internal housing (batteries not included).
  • Typical battery life is approximately 12 months based on around 10 uses per day.
  • Manufacturer documentation indicates battery life of up to 24 months when using extended battery capacity configurations.
  • Low battery alerts are provided via the keypad indicators and within the mobile app.
  • USB-C emergency power input allows temporary power from a power bank if the batteries are depleted.
  • Mechanical key override provides physical backup entry if electronic access methods are unavailable.

Wi-Fi icon Wi-Fi Remote Access (Optional)

This smart lock does not include built-in Wi-Fi. Remote access and management features are available only when the lock is paired with a compatible McGrath Locks gateway. With a gateway installed, you can remotely unlock the door, issue or revoke access credentials, and review access activity through the McGrath Locks app from anywhere with an internet connection. To choose the right McGrath gateway for your lock and home network, see Chapter 14 - choosing the right gateway.

The gateway connects to your home 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network. If your router merges its 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands under one name, this can interrupt the connection - see Chapter 08 - the Wi-Fi band-steering problem before installing.

Not sure whether you need a gateway at all? See our guide to whether you actually need a gateway.

FAQ icon Frequently Asked Questions

Does the McGrath Grange smart lock connect directly to Wi-Fi?

The lock communicates using Bluetooth as standard. Remote access, monitoring and unlocking over the internet requires a compatible McGrath gateway connected to your home network. If a paired gateway repeatedly drops its connection, this is usually a 2.4GHz band-steering issue - see our FAQ on smart locks dropping off Wi-Fi.

Which mobile app is used to manage the lock?

The lock is managed using the McGrath Locks mobile app, available for Apple iOS and Android. The app allows user creation, time-limited and one-time access codes, audit records, and remote control when used with a gateway.

Can the lock be installed on double entry doors?

Yes. A matching McGrath Grange dummy pull handle is available for the inactive door. This lets both doors share the same architectural appearance while only one door contains the electronic lock.

What should I check before drilling for the lock?

Confirm your door's backset (60 mm or 70 mm from the door edge to the centre of the bore hole) and door thickness (35-60 mm standard, up to 100 mm with extended tailbar). Use the supplied installation template for the handle fixing centres and bore position. For a step-by-step backset guide, see how to measure your lock backset, and for common installation errors, see choosing the wrong hardware or backset.

What happens if the batteries go flat?

The lock includes a USB-C emergency power input that accepts temporary power from a power bank so the door can be unlocked. A mechanical key override is also provided.

Additional information icon Additional Information

Installation icon
Installation Requirements
The Grange requires standard smart lock preparation - a 54 mm cross-bore hole and either a 60 mm or 70 mm backset latch position. Use the manufacturer's installation template to keep the handle aligned. If you are replacing a vertical push-pull handle, take the key measurements first; see our guide to the five measurements to take before ordering.
Battery icon
Battery Operation
The lock runs on AA batteries inside the internal housing. Battery life depends on usage frequency, and the lock provides low-battery alerts through the mobile app and keypad indicators.
Weather icon
Outdoor Use
The exterior housing carries an IP65 environmental rating, providing protection against rain and outdoor exposure on residential entry doors. In coastal Queensland, salt air and direct sun affect every outdoor lock over time; for what to expect from an outdoor electronic lock in this climate, see our guide on how coastal conditions affect digital lock lifespan.
Platform icon
App Platform
The McGrath Locks app runs on the TTLock platform. For an overview of how the platform manages users, passcodes and gateways, see Chapter 15 - Smart Lock App Platforms.
