McGrath A210 — 35mm Backset — Euro Mortice Back-to-Back Smart Lock
The McGrath A210DB is a slimline 5-in-1 double-sided digital smart lock designed for doors where access control is required from both sides. With a 43 mm wide lock body engineered specifically for narrow stile aluminium doors, the A210DB fits where standard-width smart locks cannot. It suits residential entry doors, commercial office doors, aluminium bi-fold and hinged doors, and any application where a single, unified lock must control both faces of the door.
Five access methods are supported: fingerprint recognition, keypad PIN, RFID credential, Bluetooth eKey via the McGrath Locks App, and mechanical key override. Both sides of the door carry a full electronic keypad and fingerprint reader — there is no passive interior side. The lock is supplied with a 35 mm backset European mortice lock on 85 mm centres. Optional Wi-Fi remote access is available via a compatible McGrath gateway.
Same day if ordered before 11am AEST (excluding weekends and QLD public holidays)
This model is also available in a single-sided configuration, suitable where access control is only required from one side of the door.

The A210DB is not suitable for installation on external pedestrian gates, even though both keypads carry an IP65 rating. The battery compartment is morticed into the door edge between the two lock units — in the same way a mortice lock body sits within a door. On a gate, the top of the cavity is open to the elements. Water entering from the top of the gate can travel down and enter the keypads from the rear, which is not water-tight. Only the external face of each keypad carries the IP65 rating. For gate applications, a dedicated gate-rated smart lock is required.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the A210DB be installed on an external gate?
No. The A210DB is not suitable for external pedestrian gates. Even though the external keypad faces carry an IP65 rating, the battery compartment is morticed into the door edge between the two lock units. On a gate, this cavity is open at the top, allowing water to enter from above and reach the rear of the keypads, which are not water-tight. For gate applications, a dedicated gate-rated smart lock is required.
What stile width does my aluminium door need for the A210DB?
The A210DB lock body is 43 mm wide. As a guide, aluminium door stiles of 50 mm or wider can accommodate the A210DB. It is important to measure your door's stile width and confirm sufficient clearance before ordering. For full measurement guidance including stile width, see Chapter 02 — Measuring Your Door.
Does one set of batteries power both sides of the door?
Yes. A single battery module (4 x AA alkaline batteries) is morticed into the door edge between the two lock units and powers both keypads. This is a key design difference compared to some other back-to-back locks that require separate battery sets. It also means that when batteries need replacing, only one battery module needs to be accessed.
What is the difference between the A210 and the A210DB?
The A210 is the single-sided version — it has one active electronic keypad on the exterior and a standard passive lever on the interior side. The A210DB (this product) is the back-to-back version — both sides of the door carry a full electronic keypad and fingerprint reader, giving complete credential-based access control from both faces of the door. See the A210 single-sided for the non-DB version.
Does the lock require internet access to operate?
No. The lock operates locally via Bluetooth using the McGrath Locks App. No internet connection is required for day-to-day access via fingerprint, PIN, RFID, or Bluetooth eKey. Remote management and remote unlocking from outside the property require an optional Wi-Fi gateway. See Chapter 14 — Bluetooth vs Gateway for a full explanation of what changes when a gateway is added.
Additional Information
Confirm door stile width (50 mm minimum), door thickness (38-55 mm), and existing backset (must be 35 mm or replaceable with 35 mm mortice) before ordering. For help with measurements, see Chapter 02 — Measuring Your Door and our guide to measuring your lock backset.
The IP65 rating applies to the external face of each keypad only. The battery compartment between the two lock units and the rear of the keypads are not water-tight. This is why the A210DB is not suitable for gate installations. For a plain-English explanation of IP ratings, see Chapter 11 — Australian Smart Lock Standards.
For reliable Wi-Fi remote access, the McGrath gateway should be positioned within Bluetooth range of the lock. For guidance on selecting the right gateway model, see our comparison of all four gateway generations or the McGrath gateway comparison.
