Legge 99X Primary Multifunction Mortice Lock - Satin Chrome
The Legge 99X Primary Multifunction Mortice Lock is a commercial-grade mortice lock body engineered for the Australasian market. Designed for use in commercial, industrial, institutional and government buildings, it provides the flexibility, durability and performance required by specifiers and facility managers who need a reliable primary lock across high-use door openings.
The multifunction case is a defining feature of the 99X range: it allows the lock to be converted between vestibule and combination functions by simple external operation - without removing the lock from the door. This means operational requirements can change without triggering a full lock replacement, which is a practical advantage in facilities that evolve over time, including schools, offices, hospitals and government buildings. The lock is fire rated to 4 hours in accordance with AS 1905.1, making it suitable for specified fire door applications. It is supplied as a lock case only - cylinder not included.
Key Features
- Multifunction case converts between vestibule and combination functions via external operation - no tools required, no need to remove the lock from the door.
- Reversible stainless steel latchbolt suits left- or right-hand doors, and inward or outward opening, without modification.
- Anti-lockout mechanism is non-handed, simplifying installation and reducing misfit risk on-site.
- Radiused latchbolt face for a smoother, quieter closing action - reduces door slam and impact on the frame.
- Closed through-holes minimise dust ingress into the case, extending service life in high-use environments.
- Accepts 7.6 mm to 8 mm furniture spindles without adjustment - compatible with the majority of commercial lever furniture.
- Bolt-through fixing pattern suits standard commercial door furniture configurations.
- Compatible with most restricted keying systems - including master key and grand master key suites.
- Supplied less cylinder - specify a 570 oval cylinder separately to suit your keying system.
- Fire rated to 4 hours in accordance with AS 1905.1.

Fire Rating
The Legge 99X has been tested and rated for fire door applications in accordance with AS 1905.1, Australia's standard for fire-rated doorsets. The fire resistance level (FRL) achieved depends on the overall doorset construction - the lock must be installed in a compliant doorset assembly to realise the rating. Confirm the doorset FRL requirement with your fire door supplier or building certifier before specifying.
For an overview of how fire door ratings work in practice, see our guide to fire door core types and lock requirements and the Fire Door Types and Smart Lock Certification guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The Legge 99X is rated to up to 4 hours in accordance with AS 1905.1, depending on the doorset type and construction. The lock must be installed in a compliant fire-rated doorset to achieve the stated FRL - the lock rating alone is not sufficient without the doorset certification. For a plain-English explanation of how fire door ratings work, see our guide to where fire door locks are required.
No. The 99X is supplied as a lock case only. It is designed for use with a 570 oval cylinder, which is specified and purchased separately. This allows specifiers and locksmiths to match the cylinder to their preferred or approved keying system - including restricted key systems and master key suites. Contact us if you need help selecting a compatible cylinder.
Yes. The multifunction case can be converted between vestibule and combination functions by external operation - the lock does not need to be removed from the door to change function. This is particularly useful in facilities where access requirements on a door may change over time (for example, a room repurposed from a private office to a shared space), removing the need to replace the lock case entirely.
The standard Legge 99X suits door thickness from 32 mm to 50 mm. If your door is outside this range, confirm with your locksmith or supplier before ordering - a different case may be required. Three backset options are available - 60 mm, 30 mm, and 23 mm - so confirm which suits your door and furniture before ordering. For how to measure backset correctly, see the backset measurement guide.
Yes. The 99X is designed to accept a 570 oval cylinder and is compatible with most restricted keying systems, including master key and grand master key configurations. The actual key system capability depends on the cylinder selected. Speak with your locksmith about which cylinder and key system best suits your facility's access control requirements. For context on how restricted keying works in commercial settings, see Chapter 11 - Australian Standards.
Additional Information
The Legge 99X is always supplied less cylinder. This is standard practice for commercial mortice locks specified in institutional and government buildings, where the keying system is controlled by the facility manager or security consultant. Before purchasing, confirm which 570 oval cylinder suits your keying system, or ask your locksmith to advise. Ordering the lock case without a matching cylinder means the lock cannot be installed until the cylinder arrives.
Commercial mortice locks installed in fire-rated doorsets must be fitted correctly to maintain the doorset's fire resistance level. Incorrect installation - including misaligned latchbolt, incorrect forend seating, or an incompatible strike plate - can compromise both fire compliance and security performance. For fire door applications, confirm installation requirements with a qualified locksmith. See Chapter 12 - When to use a professional installer for guidance.
The Legge 99X features an extended door gap range to support reliable deadlatching across a variety of commercial door frames. In high-use settings, verify that the door-to-frame gap is within tolerance for the latch to engage and deadlatch correctly on every closure. A latch that does not deadlatch consistently creates both a security and compliance risk. If you are experiencing deadlatching issues on an existing installation, contact your locksmith to assess the door alignment and strike plate position. For context on why bolt throw and deadlatching matter, see What Is Bolt Throw and Why Does It Matter.
If you are specifying this lock for an apartment building entry door or a common-area fire door, be aware that Queensland and other states impose specific requirements around lock type, installation penetrations, and certification. The one-penetration principle applies to fire-rated doors in many apartment buildings - adding a secondary lock may not be permitted. Read our guide to the one-penetration principle and Queensland fire door requirements, and check with your building certifier or body corporate manager before specifying.
