Vault Nexus Vision Smart Deadbolt with Video-to-Phone Intercom and 3D Face Recognition
At A Glance
Not Available
The Vault Nexus Vision (Vault_Nexus_Vision) is the Nexus smart deadbolt with a built-in fish-eye camera and two-way video intercom plus integrated 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. See and speak with visitors and answer the door remotely through the Vault Smart Locks app, with real-time notifications - all without a separate gateway.
Part of Vault's premium Signature Range, the Nexus Vision supports 3D facial recognition, fingerprint, PIN code, Bluetooth, RFID card, mechanical key and app control.
The Nexus Vision delivers its video intercom through the app - unlike the Guardian Vision and Fortress Vision, it has no indoor display screen. Its deadbolt configuration makes it mechanically different from Vault's mortice-lock models: it fits a bored door preparation rather than a mortice pocket. It is the video-intercom variant of the Vault Nexus; the whole family sits in our Vault range overview.
Usually ships in 3 business days.

Built-in Video Intercom and Wi-Fi
The Nexus Vision adds a built-in fish-eye camera and two-way video intercom to the standard lock. See and speak with visitors at your door directly from the Vault Smart Locks app - this model has no indoor display screen.
With integrated 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, you receive real-time notifications and can answer the door remotely from anywhere - no separate gateway required. Visitor video is a different thing from a conventional door viewer: you can talk to the person, and you can do it from the other side of the world.
Wi-Fi is built into this lock, so remote unlocking, activity notifications and the video intercom all work over a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network with nothing extra to add. There is no need to buy a separate Vault G5 Wi-Fi Gateway, so you save that added hardware cost and the extra setup step that a Bluetooth-only Vault lock needs for remote access - every other lock in the Vault range relies on the G5 for its remote functions.
Note: the video below shows the base Vault Nexus. The Nexus Vision adds a fish-eye video camera lens on the outside module for a two-way, app-based video intercom (there is no indoor display screen); all other hardware and functions are the same.
Key Features
- Smart deadbolt with an integrated push-pull body design - the compact member of the push-pull family.
- 3D facial recognition, fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card, Bluetooth and app control - compare them in the access-method comparison.
- Built-in 2.4GHz Wi-Fi for remote access, video intercom and smart-home integration - no separate gateway required.
- Two-way video intercom - see and speak with visitors from the Vault Smart Locks app (app-based; no indoor screen on this model).
- Real-time notifications and remote door answering from anywhere via the Vault Smart Locks app.
- Mechanical key backup included - two keys, and a place in the backup-key category.
- IP55 weather-rated external module (outside unit) for entry-door use; the internal module is interior-use only.
- The slimmest push-pull face lock Vault makes - 35mm recommended clearance, the tightest in the family, so it suits doors where a full mortice body will not fit; check stile width and door thickness first.
Facial Recognition Access
The Nexus Vision supports advanced 3D facial recognition for fast, touch-free unlocking - the same face module as the standard Nexus.
Facial recognition works alongside fingerprint, PIN, RFID card, Bluetooth app control and backup key access. Vault publishes no face-profile capacity figure for the Nexus platform, so none is quoted here; fingerprint, passcode and card pools are in the Access Methods table. See why 3D differs from 2D camera recognition and how liveness detection works.
Face-recognition setup and performance should be confirmed against the current product revision and installation environment. In a commercial, strata or managed rental setting, review the Australian Privacy Act obligations before you enrol faces.
The external (outside) module - which carries the fish-eye video camera - is IP55 weather rated for everyday outdoor exposure on a regular front door. The internal module - which houses the battery compartment and other electronics - is for interior use only and is not weather rated.
Access Methods
The Nexus Vision supports six ways in plus built-in remote access. See our side-by-side access method comparison for how each method works day to day. The fingerprint, passcode and card pools are those of the Nexus platform, from the base Nexus manual.
What's In The Box
Item numbering follows the base Nexus manual's inclusions list (there is no item 9 or 10). A rechargeable lithium battery, an installation template and the digital manual complete the kit. Note the plain RFID cards in the box are cards, not fobs; extra credentials are in the RFID credentials category.
Deadbolt Preparation
The Nexus Vision uses a deadbolt mechanism with bolt latch hardware. It fits a bored deadbolt preparation - the round hole through the door face plus the edge bore - not the rectangular pocket a Vault mortice body needs, which is why none of the Vault mortice bodies apply here. Confirm your door's existing bore and thickness before ordering.
Battery, Power and Backup Access
- A rechargeable lithium battery is included. The camera and Wi-Fi radio draw more than a Bluetooth-only lock, so expect to charge more often than the standard Nexus - for realistic expectations on charge cycles and maintenance, see our guide to smart lock battery life.
- Note for anyone reading the base Nexus manual: it describes 4 x AA cells for the standard Nexus, which has no camera or Wi-Fi radio. The Nexus Vision listing specifies a rechargeable lithium battery in the box.
- Mechanical key backup remains available in all power conditions - two keys are supplied. Read what a power or internet outage changes.
- For best reliability, confirm battery condition and backup-key operation during setup.
Suitable Uses
- Front doors that already have a bored deadbolt preparation.
- Entry doors where a smart deadbolt is preferred over a mortice lock - or where a mortice pocket cannot be cut.
- Homes wanting compact biometric access with slim depth and the tightest clearance in the Vault push-pull family.
- Households who want to see and talk to visitors on their phone, wherever they are, without an indoor screen on the door.
- Residential entry applications needing several credential types, including touch-free face recognition.
- Short-stay and managed properties that want visitor video and remote unlocking - read audit trails and which setup suits a rental first.

Vault Vision Range and Base Models
This product (bold row) is the video-intercom variant of its base model. The three Vision locks share the same lock formats as the standard Fortress, Guardian and Nexus and add the camera, intercom and built-in Wi-Fi; the base models reach the internet through the optional Vault G5 Gateway instead. The whole line-up is compared in our Vault range overview and the Vault brand profile; every face-recognition lock we stock is in the palm or face recognition category.

Full Specifications
Rows marked "Nexus platform" are taken from the base Nexus manual, which this listing shares for all hardware other than the camera, intercom and Wi-Fi radio.
Wi-Fi Remote Access and Video Intercom
Unlike the standard Nexus, the Nexus Vision has built-in 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Remote access, real-time notifications and the two-way video intercom all work without a separate gateway - compare that with how Wi-Fi remote access normally reaches a smart lock.
See and speak with visitors and answer the door from anywhere through the Vault Smart Locks app, and add Alexa or Google Home functionality on supported systems. The video intercom is delivered through the app - this model does not include a separate indoor display screen.
The lock also operates locally over Bluetooth, so face recognition, fingerprint, PIN, RFID and mechanical key entry keep working even if the internet is down - see what still works when the internet drops and how to keep a Wi-Fi lock stable. Browse all app-enabled and Bluetooth smart locks.
The Nexus Vision includes a mechanical key override so access remains available if the battery is flat or electronic access cannot be used - what a key override is and what happens when the battery dies.
Frequently Asked Questions
It is a deadbolt smart lock rather than a mortice-lock model. It fits a bored deadbolt preparation rather than a mortice pocket - if your door has a mortice pocket, look at the Fortress Vision (push-pull) or Guardian Vision (lever) instead.
No. The Nexus Vision's video intercom is app-only - you see and speak with visitors from the Vault Smart Locks app on your phone. If you want a lock with a built-in indoor screen, see the Guardian Vision or Fortress Vision.
No. Built-in 2.4GHz Wi-Fi means remote access, real-time notifications and the two-way video intercom all work without a separate gateway. See our guide to what a gateway does. The lock also works locally over Bluetooth if the internet is down.
Yes. It uses 3D facial recognition alongside the other access methods. Vault does not publish a face-profile capacity for the Nexus platform, so we do not quote one; the 200 / 150 / 200 fingerprint, passcode and card pools are published.
No. Vault smart locks are not certified for fire-rated doors. For Queensland fire door compliance requirements, see Chapter 05 of our Buyer's Guide. On an apartment door, our note on secondary locks and the one-penetration principle is also worth reading.
Additional Information
The Nexus Vision is the video-intercom variant of the standard Vault Nexus deadbolt, adding a fish-eye camera, app video intercom and built-in Wi-Fi. If you do not need the camera or remote features, the standard Nexus covers the same biometric access at a lower price, with remote access via the optional G5 Gateway. See the Vault brand profile.
Nexus Vision is one of three Vision models. The lever Guardian Vision and the push-pull Fortress Vision both include an indoor display screen; the Nexus Vision's intercom is app-only. For the full line-up, see the Vault smart lock range overview and the Nexus entry in it.
Deploying facial recognition in a commercial, strata or managed rental setting may trigger obligations under the Australian Privacy Act. Review these requirements before installation.
Deadbolt fitment depends on the existing bore and latch preparation, so compatibility should be checked before ordering. Choosing the wrong preparation is a common installation error - see our guide to common hardware and backset selection mistakes and why misalignment stops a bolt throwing. Terry's offers advice and installation.
The Nexus Vision is positioned as a residential front-door smart deadbolt. It is not suitable for fire-rated doors, high-cycle storeroom duty, or applications outside its residential design intent. Its IP55 rating applies to the external (outside) module only - the module carrying the camera - and correct installation and maintenance still matter, particularly in coastal Queensland environments where salt air accelerates wear.

Vault Nexus Vision - FAQ, Setup and Owner's Guide
Everything below is here to help you buy, install, set up and live with your Vault Nexus Vision. For general smart-lock questions see our Smart Lock FAQ (Chapter 13), and for measuring and fitting see the Buyer's Guide.
Video Intercom and Notifications
A fish-eye camera in the outside module, with a speaker and microphone, connects to your phone through the Vault Smart Locks app over the lock's built-in Wi-Fi. When someone is at the door you get a notification, open it, see and talk to the visitor, and unlock from the same screen if you choose to. There is no screen on the inside module - the phone is the screen. It is a two-way conversation, not a one-way door viewer.
The Nexus is the compact deadbolt of the Vault family, and its inside module is the slim half of a deadbolt set rather than a full-height escutcheon. Vault put the intercom in the app instead of adding a screen. If you want a screen inside the door, the Guardian Vision (lever) and Fortress Vision (push-pull) both have one, but both need a mortice pocket.
Not the video call - that needs the internet. Every credential at the door (face, fingerprint, PIN, card, key and Bluetooth app) keeps working locally. See what still works when the internet drops and why locks drop off Wi-Fi.
Yes. Share app access with family members and each phone receives the visitor notification; whoever answers first talks to the visitor. You can also unlock remotely for a tradesperson once you have seen who it is.
Built-In Wi-Fi and Remote Access
No. The Nexus Vision has 2.4GHz Wi-Fi built into the lock, so remote unlocking, notifications and the video intercom work with nothing extra to buy. The Vault G5 Gateway is for the Bluetooth-only Vault locks such as the standard Nexus. Our gateway guide explains the difference.
A 2.4GHz network - the lock does not join 5GHz. If your router merges both bands under one name, split them or use a 2.4GHz-only guest network while you pair; our guides to band steering and Wi-Fi dropout causes walk through it. Check the signal at the door itself, not in the lounge (placement tips).
The Nexus Vision can add Alexa or Google Home functionality on supported systems through its built-in Wi-Fi. Treat this as a bonus rather than the reason to buy - voice platforms change their smart-lock rules from time to time, so confirm the current Vault integration for your assistant before you rely on it. Compare the ecosystems in Chapter 15.

Access, Credentials and Face Recognition
200 fingerprints, 150 passcodes and 200 cards on the Nexus platform, with three RFID cards in the box. Vault does not publish a face-profile figure for the Nexus, so we do not quote one - the Fortress Vision and Guardian Vision both publish 50. See how the range compares in the range overview.
3D structured-light recognition builds a depth map of the face rather than relying on a flat picture, so it is far less dependent on lighting than a 2D camera and much harder to fool with a photo. Very low sun straight into the sensor can still slow it down. Liveness detection in Chapter 06 covers what the sensor is checking for.
At home, no. In a business, strata building or managed rental, collecting facial data can bring the Australian Privacy Act into play - read the chapter section before you enrol tenants or staff.
Yes. Passcodes and app keys can be issued for a set period through the Vault Smart Locks app and removed afterwards, and RFID cards can be deleted from the lock if lost. For a short-stay property, read our note on audit trails and which setup suits a rental.
Yes - two backup keys are included, and the override cylinder sits behind the outside module. Where the keyhole hides on a smart lock and where to keep the spare are covered in our key-override guide.
Deadbolt Fit and Installation
A bored deadbolt preparation - the round hole through the door face and the edge bore for the bolt latch - not a mortice pocket. Measure the backset of the existing bore, the door thickness (35-60mm on the Nexus platform) and confirm you have 35mm of clearance beside the door for the panels. Photos of both faces and the door edge let us confirm fit - what to send.
Often, yes - that is the point of a deadbolt-format smart lock. Whether the existing bore lines up depends on its backset and hole size, which is why we ask for photos first. Identifying your existing hardware in Chapter 02 shows what to look for, and bolt projection explains what the bolt has to reach.
A deadbolt swap is one of the easier smart-lock installs, but a lock that is also a camera and Wi-Fi radio is worth getting right first time. Read when to DIY and the three common installation mistakes; Terry's offers advice and installation and installation across the Gold Coast. Incorrect or unlicensed installation is excluded from the Vault warranty.
On a rebated (overlapping) door pair the Vault Rebate Kit for Tubular Latch Locks may be needed for the strike side - it suits deadbolt preparations like the Nexus Vision's, and the kit page explains when it is and is not needed. Every rebate kit and strike we stock is in the rebate kits and strikes category.
The handle direction is set in the app after the lock is added, so one Nexus Vision suits a left- or right-hand door. Knowing your handing still helps when you send photos - how to determine door handing.
Power and Batteries
A rechargeable lithium battery is included and sits in the inside module. Vault does not quote a life figure for the Vision, and a lock that is also a camera and Wi-Fi radio uses more power than a Bluetooth-only lock, so plan on charging more often than a standard Nexus owner would. The lock warns you at low voltage. For what drives battery life on any electronic lock, read the realities of electronic door locks.
The base Vault Nexus runs on 4 x AA cells, and its manual (linked on this page) describes that model. The Nexus Vision listing specifies a rechargeable lithium battery in the box. If the battery format matters to your decision, ask us before you order and we will confirm against current stock.
Use one of the two mechanical keys. Once you are in, recharge and the electronics come straight back. What happens when the battery dies covers the sequence.
Suitability and Compliance
No. Vault locks are not certified for fire doors. Where fire doors are required and the lock types that are certified are in Chapter 05.
This listing rates the outside module, camera included, IP55 - protected against limited dust and low-pressure water jets. The base Nexus manual rates the standard Nexus outside module IP66; the camera-equipped Vision module is rated conservatively here. The inside module is not weather rated and must stay indoors. On the coast, read coastal environments and Queensland considerations.
It is a residential front-door deadbolt, not a high-cycle storeroom or shop-front lock. For a commercial door, talk to us about the Vault access control units or a different platform.
Vault covers the standard range for 12 months from purchase against defects in materials and workmanship, for the original purchaser only. When a lock goes back for assessment Vault charges a refundable holding fee - $200 in metro areas and $250 elsewhere - which is returned if the fault is covered. Batteries, cosmetic finishes, incorrect or unlicensed installation and misuse are excluded, so a professional fit protects the claim as well as the door. Terry's manages claims alongside your rights under Australian Consumer Law - see Returns and Warranty.

Important Notes
Where a Vault product carries an Ingress Protection (IP) rating, that rating is stated on the individual product listing, packaging or technical documentation. Unless stated otherwise in writing, the IP rating applies only to the external-facing side of the lock - not to the internal assembly, handle, battery compartment, electronics, cables or connectors. The internal side must be installed in a dry, sheltered position. An IP rating describes water resistance, not waterproofing: the lock must not be submerged, pressure washed, or exposed beyond its stated rating, and all seals, gaskets and covers must be correctly fitted and undamaged.
Vault's manufacturer policy applies a warranty assessment holding fee, which is refundable if the fault is found to be covered under warranty. If a product is assessed as outside warranty or damaged by an excluded cause, a discounted replacement may be offered. We will confirm any applicable fees and options with you before any assessment proceeds.
This warranty is provided in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the ACL. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
