ABUS Key Garage One KG787BTC Smart Bluetooth - Wall Mounted
The ABUS Key Garage One KG787BTC is a wall-mounted smart key safe designed for controlled shared access to physical keys. The unit opens via Bluetooth using the ABUS HomeTec Pro app, or via a 6-digit keypad code generated by an administrator - allowing access for users who do not have a smartphone.
The KG787BTC is suited to holiday rental properties, service trades, cleaners, carers, and maintenance teams where secure temporary or permanent key access is required without distributing physical keys. An administrator controls access for up to 28 users, with individually assigned access tickets and a full audit trail of entry events stored in the app.
Unlike a conventional combination key box, the KG787BTC allows timed access windows to be set per user, revoked remotely, and reviewed after the fact - without duplicating or handing over physical keys.

- Carers, NDIS support workers, and health workers: Provide reliable, audited access to a property without distributing keys that could be lost, copied, or not returned.
- Property managers overseeing multiple properties: Manage access for different users at each site from a single app account. For a breakdown of how Bluetooth key safes compare to mechanical options, see our guide to Bluetooth key safes.
- Small commercial premises requiring key accountability: Track who accessed which keys and when, without the cost and complexity of a full access control system.

Specifications
Dimensions
External dimensions as shown in manufacturer drawing. Internal capacity: up to 20 keys or 30 access cards.
Battery & Power
The KG787BTC is powered by 2 x AA batteries, which are included. Batteries are accessed via an external compartment on the unit - the key safe does not need to be opened or emptied to replace them.
A low-battery warning is displayed in the HomeTec Pro app before the batteries are fully depleted. Standard alkaline AA batteries are recommended for consistent performance and accurate low-battery warnings.
HomeTec Pro App
The KG787BTC is managed via the ABUS HomeTec Pro app, available for iOS and Android. The app communicates with the unit via Bluetooth only - no internet connection or gateway is required for day-to-day operation.
From the app, the administrator can add or remove users; assign temporary or permanent access tickets with defined validity windows; generate keypad codes for users without a smartphone; and review the full audit trail of access events. Access can be revoked for any individual user at any time without affecting other users.
The HomeTec Pro app is ABUS's own Bluetooth management platform. It does not integrate with third-party property management systems (PMS) or Airbnb Connect - access management is handled directly within the app by the administrator.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can this be used without a smartphone?
Yes. An administrator generates a 6-digit keypad code for a user via the app. The user enters the code directly on the unit keypad - no smartphone or Bluetooth connection is required on the user's end.
Is this suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, when installed in a sheltered or protected outdoor position. The KG787BTC is rated IP54, meaning it is protected against dust ingress and water splashing from any direction. It is not suitable for fully exposed locations subject to direct rain.
What happens if the batteries run flat?
A low-battery warning appears in the HomeTec Pro app before the batteries are depleted. Batteries are replaced via the external compartment without opening the safe. For managed properties, keep a set of spare AA batteries on site.
Can I set different access permissions for different users?
Yes. Each user receives an individual access ticket which can be set as permanent (ongoing access) or temporary (access limited to a defined date and time window). Tickets can be revoked for any individual at any time. Keypad codes and Bluetooth app access are separate credentials - a user can hold one or both.
Can the same app manage multiple KG787BTC units?
Yes. Multiple KG787BTC units can be managed from a single HomeTec Pro administrator account, which makes it practical for property managers with multiple sites.
Additional Information
Access history and accountability: The audit trail in the HomeTec Pro app records each opening event against the specific user who triggered it. This makes the KG787BTC well-suited to managed properties, strata buildings, and commercial premises where key accountability is a documented requirement.
KeyCard backup: The ABUS KeyCard (administrator credential card) supplied with the unit should be photographed and stored securely in a separate location. If the KeyCard is lost, resetting administrator access requires contacting ABUS support.
Firmware and app updates: ABUS periodically releases firmware updates for the KG787BTC via the HomeTec Pro app. Keeping the firmware current is recommended for optimal security and functionality.
Installation location: Mount on a solid, flat surface - brick, masonry, or structural timber preferred. The wall fixing point should not be accessible when the safe is in the closed position. Position out of direct line of sight where possible, and avoid locations subject to direct rain or sustained sun exposure.
Choosing between mechanical and Bluetooth key storage: The KG787BTC costs more than a mechanical dial or push-button key safe but adds revocable per-user access, timed access windows, no shared combination code to rotate, and a full audit trail. For a practical breakdown of which type of key storage solution suits your situation, see our smart padlock and key safe guide.
