Vault Axis Double-Sided Keypad Slimline Smart Lock
The Vault Axis is a narrow-profile, double-sided keypad smart lock designed for doors where controlled access is required from both sides. Its slim body and lever format make it well suited to narrower door frames and stiles.
Axis combines fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card or fob, Bluetooth app control, and mechanical key backup in one lockset. The double-sided keypad arrangement makes it suitable for offices, shared workspaces, storage areas, and selected residential applications where controlled entry and controlled exit are both required.
Local management is handled through the Vault app via Bluetooth. Optional remote access and smart home functionality are available when paired with the Vault G5 Wi-Fi Gateway.
Usually ships in 1 - 2 business days.

Specifications
Wi-Fi Remote Access (Optional)
This smart lock operates via Bluetooth connectivity as standard. Remote access and internet-based control are available only when paired with a compatible Vault Wi-Fi gateway.
When connected to a gateway, users can remotely manage access, review activity, and use compatible functions with Alexa and Google Home. The G5's dual-band Wi-Fi avoids the band-steering problem that can affect single-band gateways on modern routers.
For a full comparison of Vault gateway generations, see our G2 vs G3 vs G4 vs G5 gateway guide.
For remote functionality, see the Vault G5 Gateway.
This lock includes a mechanical key override to ensure access remains available if battery power is unavailable or electronic functions cannot be used.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Does the Vault Axis require authorisation on both sides of the door?
Yes. The Axis is designed as a double-sided keypad smart lock where controlled access is required for both entry and exit. This distinguishes it from single-sided smart locks, where the internal lever typically operates freely. See our access method comparison table for a broader overview. - Does the Vault Axis support remote access?
Yes, but only when paired with the Vault G5 Wi-Fi Gateway. Without the gateway, it operates locally through Bluetooth, keypad, fingerprint, and RFID credentials. Our guide to what a gateway actually does explains the difference between local and remote-enabled operation. - Is facial recognition available on the Vault Axis?
No. The Axis supports fingerprint, PIN code, Bluetooth app control, RFID credentials, and mechanical key backup — facial recognition is not available on this model. For Vault models that include facial recognition, see our facial recognition smart lock comparison. - What batteries does the Vault Axis require?
The lock requires 4 x AA batteries installed in the rear body. For guidance on battery life and maintenance expectations, see our honest guide to electronic door lock battery life. - Can the Vault Axis be used on sliding doors?
Yes, provided it is matched with a compatible sliding hook bolt mortice suited to the application. Selecting the incorrect mortice type is one of the most common installation mistakes — see our guide to common mortice selection errors.
Additional Information
- Dual-Control Use Case: Axis is best suited to installations where both entry and exit need to be controlled, rather than standard single-sided residential access. See the Vault brand profile for context on where the Axis sits in the broader Vault range.
- Narrow Door Fitment: Its slim body design makes it better suited to narrower profiles than many larger push-pull smart locks. If you are fitting to an aluminium door, confirm your stile width before purchasing.
- Mortice/Latch Selection Matters: Correct mortice or latch choice is critical, especially for aluminium doors, narrow profiles, and sliding door hook-bolt applications. See our guide to common hardware and backset selection mistakes for what can go wrong.
- Weather Rating: The IP66 rating means this lock is protected against powerful water jets and dust ingress. For a full explanation of IP ratings and what they mean for outdoor smart locks, see Chapter 11 of our Buyer's Guide.
- Fire-Rated Door Limitation: This lock is not suitable for fire-rated doors such as apartment entry doors. For fire door compliance requirements in Queensland, see Chapter 05 of our Buyer's Guide.
- Compatibility Check Recommended: For unusual door types or uncertain fitment, confirming compatibility before purchase is recommended. Our installation and troubleshooting chapter outlines when professional assessment is advisable.
